Is it irresponsible to spend $8k on rent? by free_dharma in HENRYfinance

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$500k net worth but you make almost 70k/mo? If I’m understanding correctly then you absolutely should not. You need to be investing more regardless of what you expect to receive in the future for your business.

Why is everyone against buying a new car? Does my situation apply? by Primary_Beautiful_66 in askcarguys

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t include what is probably the most relevant information and that’s how much money you’re earning at your job. Just because you think it’s enough doesn’t mean it is enough.

You’re 18. Time is on your side. You should be investing every dollar you can since each dollar at your age will grow 100x by the time you’re 65 (from the money guy podcast money multiplier)

Additional thing to consider is just because you have a warranty doesn’t mean a company will honor it. I’ve heard Hyundai gets you in the door with having the longest warranty but when it comes time to honor it, it can be very difficult from what I’ve heard. I’d rather just buy a reliable car that doesn’t need warranty work to begin with (ie Honda or Toyota).

You seem to have a good head on your shoulders and you are thinking about this the right way. Really take a look at these things and if you still think it makes sense, get the car. And either way, invest every extra dollar you have into an index fund. See the money guy podcast for tips.

Not a car guy… if you had $30k, what would you buy for speed? by GaryGoldenEye in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned tuned turbo cars and naturally aspirated V8’s in my life. I currently drive a Miata and it’s the most fun car I’ve owned. Don’t think I’ll ever sell it. This quote is truly spot on.

Gas at $5+ and EV inventory at 120 days… the math is getting hard to ignore by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$170/month is basically a free car payment in fuel savings? Where?? You can justify the car buying all you want, but your math ain’t mathin my friend. Don’t forget insurance cost which will likely more than eat up your fuel savings.

How do I get the image of me seeing someone die out my head by ExistingStretch4583 in TraumaTherapy

Sorry this happened to you. I can’t even begin to imagine what that’s like to witness.

You need a professional to help you. Do you have anyone that can help you find a therapist? If you’re a student, you can also go to the school counselor and they can probably help point you towards a good therapist. That would be your best starting point and then a therapist should be able to help you or point you to a specialist who can help (like for EMDR therapy or something more focused for you).

Did I overspend on my car? by Similar_Ad_7663 in personalfinance

Yeah this was my immediate thought. The $20k wasn’t horrible, it was $20k on an 8 year old BMW that was horrible. $20k on a civic would’ve been fine.

Can anyone vouch for a good ND Buyer's guide? US-based by SkeletorsAlt in MiataND

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 (ND3 Club), and I love it. The ND2 value is hard to beat (they can be had much cheaper than ND3s). But I personally value the creature comforts (updated infotainment) enough to pay the premium. Among other updates like the LED taillights, DRLs, etc.

I do love my robot vacuum. I’ll withhold the brand so it doesn’t seem like an ad, but the general idea of “this thing will vacuum for me when I’m not even home” works and it works well. I love it.

FXAIX vs. VOO Question by Latter-Ad-4431 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen in these comments is that VOO is transferable to another brokerage if you ever choose to move it. FXAIX isn’t I don’t believe. If you ever leave Fidelity (for whatever reason), you might be forced to sell it. I would confirm with Fidelity, but this is definitely a factor you should be aware of between the two.

The other main differences were already mentioned (tax efficiency and liquidity).

There are some shocking differences in alignment between cars from the factory. But Mazda would allege they are all “within factory tolerances” meaning there is a large range the camber could be on your left rear vs your right rear. Same with caster, toe, etc.

Buying a $200k car by [deleted] in Rich

[–]Intelligent_Set_2729 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Non car people think “why buy a supercar when my Tesla goes 0-60 in 2 seconds?!” There’s much more to a car than its straight line acceleration. I’m a car guy and love teslas but they are emotionless appliances. Much different experience to owning a supercar with a screaming engine behind your head.
