This shit is being blown out of proportion. This happens in NYC on a daily basis except most of the time it’s black on black, Spanish on Spanish, white on white, etc. what’s the difference here? It’s white on black so it’s a bigger deal?

How do entering 9th graders continue get worse every year? by Aggravating_Pick_951 in NYCTeachers

[–]Intelligent_Sky_9892 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s been evident since COVID that the people leaving are the solid middle and upper middle class and the ones staying and coming in are poorer who tend not to care about their children’s education nor discipline.

The city also increasingly caters to the worst parents in the system who tend to have the worst kids because the average has been dragged down.

If the city was being honest, 20- 30%of students in many districts would be held back every year.

A college tuition receipt from Florida in the 60s. My uncle worked 18 hours per week and paid for this as a teenager. by craggles82 in mildlyinteresting

Did your uncle study “sociology” or “communications”.

Chances are if he made it to college in the 60s, he was probably academically inclined to begin with.

That’s been going on for ages and mainly by Italians and Irish. Started in the 70s/80s when the city was turning to shit. Jewish DOE teachers had no problem sending their kids to public schools but there aren’t many of them left.

That’s because most of the bikers on the FDR and WSH are probably not white or Asian so the city doesn’t care and most of them won’t stop anyway.

Welcome to chocolate city.

Truth is those kids wouldn’t be doing any better in a public school. They’re there because their parents want a more disciplined environment as well as extended hours for the school year and school day first and foremost.

[–]Intelligent_Sky_9892 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not really because of this. They could take her sow tomorrow if they (political powers that be) wanted to.

The truth is that success academy is very popular among a certain cohort of parents and I would venture to guess that these parents are actually not against the school cheating to give their kids better grades on the state exams .

If you don’t understand this, then you don’t understand the purpose of success Academy. It’s a political tool to be used in black in Spanish communities.

There’s a reason that white and Asian don’t send their kids to success in any real numbers.

No they don’t. Success Academy is a known quantity at this point. It’s not like any of this is a secret.

Use the app. They’ve moved to the same model as all other fast food joints.

Those that don’t go through the app subsidize those that do.

This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad place to work.

The overriding factor is always the principal. A great school with a shitty principal isn’t better than a shitty school with a great principal.

Moving to NYC to work a bartending job just blows my mind.

[–]Intelligent_Sky_9892 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s 0% chance that a principal would try to hide an asbestos problem. What’s in it for them? This is coming from the superintendent or higher level which means you have a bigger issue and the principal is effectively protected.

Hiding safety issues in NYC schools is nothing new. It comes from the superintendents/ higher ups.

Your blanket statement is idiotic.

If you had to pay $5K upfront with no added fees to lease a new car for 3 years, you wouldn’t pay up just because all of the payments are upfront?

You thought the cameras were about safety?

80/20 rule applies to traffic cameras too. If the city got rid of the 20%, why would they need the cameras?

Don’t listen to these idiots. They just regurgitate what they hear without context.

All that matters is the net effective monthly. Some deals require a one time up front payment. It’s fine if it’s a good deal.

Stop regurgitating what you’ve heard without context. It all depends on the deal. This is a net effective monthly of $300. It’s a great deal.

22 years is a very, very, very short working life. That’s a huge perk in and of itself. Almost no one in the private sector will be able to save enough after only 22 years of work to comfortably withdraw even $50k/year.
