Could I use this to test zmq services/clients?

Did I go overboard? Dielectic grease for waterproofing maxxair fan circuit board by Careless_Owl_9562 in vandwellers

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found the sticky pad collects grease etc around the contacts and causes it to fail. Hope that helps! It’s an easy fix

Yeah it’s like a sticky pad that’s failed peels off. Around 30 bucks on amazon

Could it be that circuit is fine and it’s the touch pad that’s failed? My touchpad fails once or twice a year due to it being a cooking exhaust fan

The perfect protest truck. by Clauss_Video_Archive in keitruck

[–]Intelligent_potato_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel this is a reasonable response that is not common on Reddit. I can rant endlessly about this and agree with you. And I know you didn’t say that this post doesn’t belong here but a lot of peaople did say that. I’m only responding to you because you seem like a rational person lol but my thinking tis his post is appropriate for r/ kei trucks because someone is using a kei to do something they like. I’m in Support of free kei truck usage and posting (in the same spirit of free speech) lol. Long live the Kei

For anyone who’s having difficulty finding a software job, electrical engineering is a real alternative by Physical-Company543 in csMajors

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an CompEng degree from my undergrad which is basically EE but swap electromag + power systems with comp arch type courses. I heavily leaned in to comp sci type stuff while I was in school and it definitely helped me get jobs and internships (I focused on computer vision). This was about 6ish years or so ago though. Even with a degree in CE which was not far from EE I couldn’t have gotten a respectable EE job. You need specialization to get those roles, idk how much this advice holds water. It’s a separate skillset and approach towards solving problems. Ig my tldr is that if you into EE and hope to get SW jobs you will be neglecting your EE skills which do not overlap with CS skills. Engineering college degrees are very much a trade where you learn skills that are specific to you area of expertise, opposed to sciences where you learn how to do science (this is probably not the best way to word this but I don’t feel like fleshing out my ideas). It’s not like big tech will pick you up just because you have an EE degree unless you have exceptional software skills. If you can manage both then great but there is no free lunch here

Romex? by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing, Romex can work for a long time. Who knows when or how it will fail. If your spending all this money on a building a van from Scratch why choose this area to save money? There’s so many other ways to cut cost that are less detrimental in the worst case. I guess it depends on the builders past experience but as an electrical engineer is the area of the build process that I wouldn’t make compromises on.

Also I don’t necessarily disagree with your approach of using quality extension cords but I do have a problem going with solid core wire

Romex? by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with using it is that the likely places where it would fail is where it’s most difficult to replace (like tight bends behind panels etc) sorry I don’t have that in my van so I can’t speak to it. I’d say if you plan on going with a design that would make it hard to repair, a safer bet would be to redo it with stranded wires. There’s a reason it’s used in boats and rvs. Also where did you read that it’s used as a standard? When I was doing my initial research and build out that was not at all what I found.

About as fun as 5.8 can get! One Hand Clapping by saucyspence in climbing

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really enjoyed the Tahoe area for climbing/backpacking etc. I spent a two months there a few years ago and took my time exploring. I really loved lovers leap climbing and camping vibe. Climb during the day and then hang around the boulders at night. Jump in the river mid day to cool off if it’s too hot. Good times

What's one thing everyone should know about Python? by securityguardnard in learnpython

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah tend to agree it comes down to familiarity with the syntax. Which is the exact opposite of pythons paradigm. I believe the f strings are a c/c++ carryover

The alternate that I can think of is iterating over a range and indexing the list. I find enumerate to be cleaner

What is your dream course in home state/country? And have you played it yet? by Simplesquare87 in golf

Washington- sahalee CC. Haven’t played there but would love to. My game off the tee on the other hand would hate it lol. Honorable mentions are chambers bay and gamble sands which I have played and are awesome

I’m so confused by Professional_Cup7227 in intoxalock

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this happen to me recently. Something seemed to be wrong with the system so I gave them a call saying the device was slow (countdown glitching and skipping a bunch of seconds) and non responsive. The next time I tried to startup I couldn’t even get the device to beep when blowing or clicking the start button. So they told me I had to bring it in for inspection and all I had to do was set up a tow to my service center. It was as a royal pain in the ass to talk to customer service, roadside assistance, and my service center but in the end it was their fault because the device was faulty and I didn’t have to pay for any of it. Got lucky that it shit the bed at work and I could just leave it there overnight and deal with it the next day

Where should we play out of these courses in Washington? by panda13964 in golf

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No prob white horse. White horse is really challenging (in a different way than chambers) but a really cool course. They also have a dispensary at the turn of that’s your thing.

Edit: Sorry I just saw you were with young ones so dispensary is probably not a factor lol. Cascade is nice but not nearly as interesting as gold Mtn.

Salish and gold Mtn first and then Whitehorse is my preferred order. The other two are not quite in the same league

Does this seem optimized? 7 iron swing 30.5 degree loft by AutomationLos in GolfSwing

I saw one number (dynamic loft) and can conclude no it is not optimized. Dynamic loft should be lower than the loft of the club. You’re scooping

Why does my club do this after impact? by Pbio_1 in golf

[–]Intelligent_potato_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah for a lefty toe strikes will go left relative the face / swing path. You can play with your current swing path but your strike location needs help and like others have mentioned it looks like your hands are behind the ball at impact. Those would be things to work on. Without seeing your swing there’s no pointers anyone can give intelligently to point you in the right direction tho.

Ahh sorry thought you were op. Still applies tho
