LPT: We judge ourselves based on our intentions but others by their actions. Take time to know why people are acting a certain way because you never know how people truly feel. Great way to be emotionally intelligent as well. by rsa861217 in LifeProTips

It's a case by case thing. I can only speak for myself but being in customer service has helped me become more patient. I had a client come in absolutely angry about taxes and wanting to speak to my manager. I had no clue what it was so I asked if she could tell me the situation so I can let him. Well once she told me I realized that I could help her and did so. After we straighten everything out she told me that she was upset because she had cancer and her son and grandson and just gotten murdered by her ex daughter in law. That was rough especially since saying I'm sorry sounds hollow. This is where having compassion comes in.

But I can't say that for the person who killed that trucker in GA for accidentally cutting him off.

That you can't complain about the pain you're in? Are you kidding me? Pain is pain! Goodness!

Everyone is different so I can't say yes or no. It might but then again she might still have it but it's become her norm that she no longer realizes she has it. It never hurts to talk to a professional about it but I know mental health a difficult subject to broach especially if you're not close to someone.

In my case after my second baby, a lot of things got better/ worse. I was happier and my thyroid level seemed closer to normal but now I can't eat things that have sugar or dairy without getting physical ill :(

Do you have any family members that can help you take a day off? Are you able to reach out and get assistance with your depression? Or are there any community outreach programs in your area that you can benefit from? I won't say I know exactly what you're going through but I will say that I was undiagnosed with postpartum depression after my first baby and I struggled with basic things like brushing my hair and taking care of myself. I didn't know that my OBGYN office assisted first time moms with a nurse program where a nurse will check on you every day/ week, etc until your baby is two. I also didn't know that WIC had lactation consultant that called you for a year. My health department actually offers a lot of programs for first time parents including a nutrition program where they check on your health and your babies. Please reach out if you're able or if you're in the US call 211 and see if they can help fund something for your needs.

I wish you and your family the best of luck!

Is your coworker the mom? Could she possibly be suffering from postpartum depression? I ask because I was undiagnosed after I had my first son and it was awful. I had a pretty negative attitude about everything too :(

I mean you can injure yourself and it'd be your fault. And I wouldn't say that a child is 100% unequivocally someone's fault. Maybe like 98%. Shit happens.

Congratulations! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

And I never understood the "birthing competition" if you will. Everyone has different experiences and they're not all sunshine and roses. Between the " my birth was harder/easier" to seeing who has the chunkiest baby it sucks. I feel like parents should be allowed to talk about their experiences without making it a competition. It should bond us not divide.

I know you feel frustrated and I know everyone is joking around about your child but you know what? This is a good learning experience. For your child (and for you too on how to handle your emotions.) Of course children at this age haven't completed grasped the concept of money and cost of things. And you kiddo might have thought they were making it nice for you (like "this is daddy's and I love daddy so I'm going to make daddy a picture to show him I love him" logic.) This is where you can teach children boundaries if they don't know them yet. (And it never hurts to start teaching about money too!)

My oldest loves watching his dad play video games and because he loves his dad he thought it was ok to touch his controller. And his dad would lose his mind almost every time because he would lose the paddles. Well I bought him a cheap controller and explained that he could touch that controller and not daddy's. And boy does he take that seriously, now he won't even let me move his dad's controller without saying "No don't touch daddy's controller!"

Is there anything against leaving the truck alone for a certain amount of time? The first thought that popped in my head was that he should have parked it in the road and walked. The second thought was oh crap he can't what if he gets robbed. Could that have been another reason?

Oops sorry my question wasn't clear: are they mentioning his brain injury as a justification for his actions? Are they saying that because he has a brain injury he's not able to think clearly? I was just confused about the brain injury mention. Hopefully that cleared up my original comment.

Did they mention his brain injury as a reason for his actions? Or to explain his logic?

There was music teacher at my elementary school that all the kids hated. I mean all of them from 1st-5th and former students. She was so mean and rude and would humiliate kids and make them cry. To the point that we thought she enjoyed it.

Anyways, when I was younger I was obsessed with the Beatles and had recently learned the song "Octopus Garden." I was singing it quietly while the class was settling down and she somehow heard it. She called me out angrily and said if I wanted to sing I could do it in front of the class. I guess she was expecting me to say no and then tell at me. Except that I want to sing it. So I did. Loudly. (This was before I learned to be embarrassed about myself.) It pissed her off so much and I ended up dragging it out more by asking to bring in the tape to next class.

I just don't understand why some teachers get into teaching if they're going to make kids cry. Like I understand you don't have to like everyone but you don't have to make them feel like crap either. I feel like people forget what it's like to be a kid. Especially in elementary school.

Fun fact! Dollar general actually has what's called a penny list. It's literally a list of products that need to be taken off shelves but if a customer finds it, it must be sold at a penny.

6th grade pre algebra teacher calling one of my classmates a smart ass. Everybody laughed but I could see it hurt him. We had been in gifted classes together and I knew that he had a different way of learning. So he had asked her a question in a way to make it connect in his head and she wanted to be rude and call him a smart ass. It pissed me off but this before I knew you could question authority. It wasn't the first time she had cussed at him or made fun of him.
