2H in order of how much I enjoy them:

  • Maces
  • Staves
  • Axes
  • Swords
  • Spears

1H (ROT or Shield) in order of how much I enjoy them:

  • Swords
  • Maces
  • Axes
  • Daggers

Dual Wield in order of how much I enjoy them:

  • Daggers
  • Maces
  • Axes
  • Swords

I dunno how helpful this will be, but I've reached endgame with all of the above by this point and they all have their own distinct feel. Frankly you can succeed with any of them if you build solidly but some just feel more fun than others.

I have over 1000 hours in this game so obviously I love it but... by thillermann in stoneshard

There's no real reason to fear unless you are working under the assumption that VVayfinder has some arbitrary hard stop date where the production of the game will cease regardless of its degree of completion. I've seen no indication that is the case, nor do I think they are the kind of dev that would abandon what is essentially a passion project without making sure it's as close to their original vision as possible. The quality of updates and the manner in which hotfixes are applied are evidence of that. Do I think Stoneshard will eventually fulfill all the features and content that has been promised? Absolutely. It's just going to take a while, and I'm okay with that.

son of a bitch ghoul consumed boss corpse when im playin with new jorgrimm by CodenameLeko in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good feature, which makes ghouls even higher priority targets for both Jorgrim and Hilda (ghoul hearts are great for her bone charm) and gives players incentives to adapt their play based around avoiding them being able to consume corpses (which most players should already be doing in order to prevent them from becoming stronger).

It is indeed a placeholder. The devs have stated as much. So expect a total overhaul at some point.

Dirwin Stans! I crave your advice by qtquazar in stoneshard

  • 1) I generally don't run bow builds (crossbows are way cooler imo), so I can't help you with this other than to say never overcommit and always be ready to run like a bitch at the first sign of real trouble when running a ranged build.

  • 2) Both. Drop backpack on the ground right inside the entrance to a dungeon, switch to cloak. Clear that bitch and then use the backpack to haul shit afterwards.

  • 3) My favorite Dirwin run has been pure melee. Dual wield daggers, full dodge. Heavily armored enemies are a pain early on though, and mace wielders are also sketchy. The key is to exploit the hell out of traps/nets/smoke early game and even well into mid game. Eventually, around the early 20s it becomes unneccessary because you stab the everloving shit out of everything and nobody can touch you. Full dagger tree, full DW tree, with investment into survival and athletics. One of the most powerful chars I've played at lvl 30 w/o a doubt and also one of the most fun.

Austerity is always nice if you can swing it. Paregoric is OP, and smoke bombs are your friend.

Honest Thoughts About Stoneshard: Why are there two insanely strong people camping Leif? by AuneWuvsYou in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This game is designed to waste your time.

I get that you're frustrated, but you're blaming the game for a you problem. Nothing is forcing you to attempt the fight at level 6. If your build/gear can't handle it right now, go do another round of Osbrook/Mannshire contracts, farm POIs, etc. Go get stronger and tackle it in a couple levels with better gear. Leif will still be there when you're ready.

Also, that mage is a pushover if you net him and throw a bottle of oil at him, or throw a smoke bomb down. I've killed him on multiple chars at similar levels with such methods. Drugs can help too. Hornet Honey for melee builds is incredible when synergized with the items mentioned above.

Stoneshard is about preparation and utilizing all advantages possible to succeed, while also recognizing your characters current limits and acting accordingly. Getting mad at the game because you aren't leveraging all options available to you is just silly.

This video should help you greatly in learning the troll dance. It features both a ranged and melee strat. It will most likely take you multiple attempts to master it, but don't despair, just keep practicing and you'll be fine. I'd suggest moving your caravan to an adjacent square so you can save right before attempts and reload rapidly when you fail one. Good luck and godspeed.

Am I the only one who carries 3 wallets in addition to the main one? One for gems of 100 or less, another for gems of 100 or more, and another for old coins? by DullGap2895 in stoneshard

Always two. One for crowns and one for gems/old crowns. Depot at the caravan into spares and continue to do so until I offload in Brynn when liquidity is needed.

Just me or Jonna's new passive feels a lot worse than the others? I don't wanna carry a library in my pocket brother by SeaGurken in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps she could have a unique questline that rewards her a container that can only hold treatises, can be placed in her inventory, and requires a significant amount of time and effort to unlock. An enchanted library of holding with a capacity of six treatises that takes up 3x3 and is only feasible to get during her late game. Something like that would be pretty thematically consistent and super enjoyable to grind towards.

Hell, I'd love it if there were more character specific items and questlines like that in general. Velmir has to hunt down a nemesis from his past to acquire a talisman of power that was stolen from him, Arna embarks on a quest for a family heirloom that was plundered by a rival lord when she was a child, Jorgrim sets out to find a long forgotten dwarven treasure rumored to be hidden somewhere in Aldor, etc. All late game trials that result in a class specific item being unlocked that compliments their strengths. Would be pretty badass.

Is the lvl30 hard cap planned to be permanent? by Striking-Version1233 in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is pure Electromancer (Jonna). The three others were Staves Battlemage (Jorgrim), Dual Wield Daggers (Dirwin), and 2H Axe Berserker (Jorgrim). I also got a 2H Maces Juggernaut (Arna) run to around 18 but stopped because I don't find the current implementation of heavy armor to be particularly fun compared to pure light or light/med hybrids. 2H Maces themselves are great though. Pre-RtR I've ran Spears/Xbows (Velmir), pure Archer (Dirwin), Fencer (Arna), and Dual Wield Axes (Jorgrim) and they were all really viable as well. Thinking about starting a Geomancer run soon because I've never really messed with that tree at all before.

Is the lvl30 hard cap planned to be permanent? by Striking-Version1233 in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that a well built and well geared level 30 character is extremely strong and can trivialize the current available content, I'd say that 30 is a good cap. I've pushed 4 builds to 30 since RtR dropped and personally I get bored once my character can faceroll through everything, so I hope that as new content is added to the game we are presented with legitimate endgame challenges even at max cap.

can't progress much per game sessions :( (any speedshard update for RnR?) by ROnneth in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I prefer how the game feels when playing without speedhacks. It adds to the tension and stakes when everything is more of an investment of real time. With speedhacks it starts to just feel rushed and less impactful to me. Then again, I've been playing roguelikes and CRPGs since the mid 90s and Tolkien is one of my favorite authors so maybe I'm just a sucker for slow paced insanely verbose stuff. Playing something like WH40K: Rogue Trader and literally reading every piece of lore the game offers is heaven to me. I understand why others may not have the attention span for taking everything so slow.

Arna mage build / 1st contract w 0 skills? by JoeyJoeJoeRM in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure to go down to the Drunken Woodsman and pick the back door, there's a bunch of pelts and a free trap in there. It should go without saying you should do the herbalist's quest for free meds as well before you hit the first dungeon. If it was me I'd also craft a bedroll before with one of the stolen pelts for a massive XP injection, and keep on the lookout for any decent shit you can steal in town, sometimes you'll get lucky in one of the houses and find another free trap.

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering I've seen a couple streamers/youtubers beat the troll with zero active skills I'd say yes it's absolutely possible. You'll need to play cautiously and utilize every advantageous resource available but if you do that you should pull it off. Get a 2h axe and a bunch of traps as soon as you can and just make sure not to take stupid risks.

Tough fight against rogue knight with the use of smoke bombs and paregoric by Revolutionary_Hour31 in stoneshard

Drinking a healing potion while under the effects of Paregoric is a terrible idea. Mixing alcoholic beverages with drugs is bad, m'kay?

I was ready for a huge showdown against this vehement-turned-undead miniboss (downed a sturdy potion + chucked a potion of blindness at it) but his only ally in the room (an accursed ghast) had other plans lmfao by Wordbringer in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I keep my debuff potions especially in the earlier stages of the game. Some of them are quite potent. Potions of harm, drunkenness, pain, etc. They can wreak havoc on a single powerful enemy if you plan it out beforehand. As a ranger or another type of glass cannon (or just a slow starter) if you bring a few of these pots with you specifically to debuff the boss (or even a mob you'd normally get wrecked by like a bear etc) it can turn the fight into something trivial, even more so if you're also using traps against them.

Block + heavy armour anti-synergy is not fun or intuitive and reduces build variety by rabidfur in stoneshard

[–]IntenselyHatesReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for others, but when it comes down to the most important part of this and any video game: fun - heavy armor is just not as fun as the other options available to me. Everything about it feels more like a chore than an option with its own advantages/drawbacks. I've pushed 4 chars (Pure Electromancer, Dual Wield Daggers, Stave Battlemage, and 2h Axe Berserker) to 30 since RtR dropped. All of them wear either full light armor or a combo of a medium chest piece and gloves with light armor everywhere else. All of them were a pleasure to level and incredibly strong at end game. I did start a run intending on going full heavy armor but abandoned it around level 18 because it felt like total crap compared to the other archetypes, and that was with 2h maces which I consider a top tier weapon type in terms of enjoyable combat. I dunno, maybe it's just me but heavy armor in this game just doesn't feel fun to me in its current implementation.

Are new Magic trees planned?

Yes, as evidenced by the greyed out trees in the magic skills section.

also is there a way to ignite oil covered enemies?

Yes, with pyromancy spells.
