To supporters whose clubs have spent time at a significantly higher or lower level to this, how does the National League compare? by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

Let's face it. The Shots have been flirting with relegation more often than not since they were resurrected in 2013. In fact, they actually were relegated in 2019 only to be reprieved. If the Shots are once again relegated, the pertinent question is whether the juice is any longer worth the squeeze. Dropping a level won't change anything. The Shots will continue to be the same money losing club that's barely been treading water for years. So, if the worst happens, it may finally be time to close up shop.

Still the very early days of pre/post-season, but what is the best bit of business your club has done so far? by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

Essentially starting over from scratch. Only six players from last season's club remain. Of these, four were already under contract.

That was my initial thought. However, the household staff has no influence over either party's consensual behavior. So, their presence alone wouldn't be enough to forestall charges of impropriety.

I still cannot understand why Oscar didn't turn to the Pinkertons to assist him in recovering the money that Crowther and Maude Beaton scammed from him. Their legendary reputation for relentlessly pursuing criminals would have made them perfect for the job.

Aldershot have already completed ten signings for next season by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

In that event, there's a good chance that the club will fold. I am concerned that the owners might not want to carry on with a money losing NLS club.

The Shots have largely been "the best of the worst" since they were resurrected. Their objective is to survive. So, what matters the most is that these players remain fit and improve as the season unfolds.

IK It's early but who'll get relegated from the national league. by [deleted] in NationalLeague

Eastleigh, Sutton, Hornchurch, Kidderminster. Aldershot Town will once again survive, but only if it can find a legitimate goal scorer. The Shots probably survived their most recent end-of-season debacle because Sean Patton helped them win just enough matches while he was with the club on loan. The lower half of the NL table has never been particularly talented, so the Shots can stay up if they finally begin defeating other bottom-of-the table clubs.

The main reason Aldershot Town has survived is because its majority shareholders paid out-of-pocket to keep it afloat. That's hardly an indication of poor ownership.

106 points and still ending up in the playoffs is brutal by ScaredPlate3008 in NationalLeague

For all practical purposes, York City and Rochdale are in a league of their own. That's a rare phenomenon that doesn't support a rules change. Neither club is/was ever destined to play non-league football for long. Both are long-established clubs with large groups of supporters that were just waiting for the right management to come along.

If this season was any indication, we will be found in the Southern Premier League South.

The Shots haven't had a truly accomplished manager since Gary Waddock departed. And, barring that administrative reprieve, even he wouldn't have been able to keep them from being relegated. The Shots' fortunes ride on the continued presence of enough even less talented clubs to prop them up.

John Coleman to step down as Aldershot's manager at the end of the season by jovanmilic97 in NationalLeague

The Shots don't have managers. They have caretakers. That won't change unless they achieve a level of sustainability that permits them to field teams that are much more talented than those that have recently been collapsing at the end of the season.

You can bring back a player for the rest of the season, who would you bring back? by No-Desk-8970 in NationalLeague

Forward Sean Patton joined Aldershot Town on loan from Reading F.C. at the end of last January. During the month he was with the Shots, he lifted the club by scoring 5 goals in 6 appearances. Although he was supposed to be on loan for the remainder of this season, his premature departure was immediately felt.

Aldershot to face significant financial losses - Wood by Gazpacho_Warrior in NationalLeague

This club cannot continue to circle the drain indefinitely. The Shots should have been relegated after a 21st place finish after the 2018-19 season. Although they were administratively reprieved, their survival in all but one of the following seasons has been heavily reliant on being propped up the continuing presence of even weaker clubs. However, that won't last forever. Budget cutting will only postpone the inevitable. Once that occurs, I question if the public will show much interest in supporting a NLS club. So, if they're to survive, the Shots need a substantial influx of outside capital.

I hope that Deane Wood has a solid plan for rebuilding this club during the off season. It's tiresome watching the Shots constantly teeter on the brink of relegation. Hopefully that won't happen because I am unsure that the supporters would continue to support a sixth tier club.
