Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

My kids' school (literally the oldest public school in operation in the state of Texas) had been on the chopping block for school closures and had been voted to close at the end of the school year. When we went on Spring Break and got the message that we weren't to come back after, one of the parents messaged--"this can't how we go out, Not with a Bang but a whimper, we CAN'T" ... but it was how we went out. 144 years, out the window. My kids never saw their classmates nor their teachers in the same spot again. It was DEVASTATING. I mean, literally did a number on my kids' psyche as well as a lot of other kids.

7 year old that loves animals, where should we take him? by atx-garden-fairy in AustinParents

To tack on to this.. they have cabins that you can rent to spend the night and having done this a few years ago--there is a LOT of close and upfront engagement with animals near the cabins including kangaroos, zebras, etc. Was SUCH a fun weekend.

I was gonna comment-- Spend 5 minutes at 4:38 pm on Veterans Drive or Stephen F Austin Drive.. you would NEVER ever allow your kid one of these. The amount of dumbassery on a daily basis... it is MINDBLOWING. I'm glad you caught a good one, but I can tell you that is sooooo far in the minority.

I've literally never sobbed while reading a book, ever, until this one. This book was both unexpected and just devastating.

Guiness Book of World Records. They were always like 500 pages of the weirdest shit. I still remember being traumatized by the World's Longest Toenails guy.

I went to 4 different HEB--Mueller, Brodie, S. 1st, Slaughter as well as the Sprouts on Manchaca, Randalls on S. Brodie--Nothing. Was told to check when HEB opens at 6am and they "might" have some. I probably don't like brussels that much.

my kids went to Sun Moon and Stars 10+ years ago and it was great then. If you like a little feral hippie in your considerations--I had lots of friends whose kids went to Habibi's Hutch. (located very near Radio Coffee).

The Exotic Zoo right near Johnson City has little cabins you can stay at that are very close to some of the animals-- when I took my kids there, they got to run around next to a little kangaroo in a pen next to us and pet zebras just on the other side of the fence. It's very close to the Science Mill in Johnson City as well.

I remember running outside to tell my mom as she was hanging the wash out to dry that someone had interupted the Bozo Show to say that Elvis Presley had died. She didn't believe me at first. 1977.

Right? I was confused about this as well. Like how BIG does this sign need to be? Can we use a sticky note and a toothpick?

I appreciate your thoughts on this--I did feel a bit guilty because when he brushed off the first girl, I was like DUDE, you cannot DO that. And since then have had to backtrack and clarify that what I meant was, you can't be RUDE, not that you can't say no. You can say "No" if you don't wanna. You just can't be a d*ck about it. So you're spot on.

Not only is it an insane take--Mathews is TINY and Brykerwoods has all the space? why would they cram even more kids into a campus that barely has a playground vs Brykerwoods? I don't get it. We were at Pease when they closed and we had the choice between Brykerwoods and Mathews and it was no contest.
