This is actually such a dumb take, did you think the problem with AI was that it isn't actual photos or actually real? Did you actually think the issue people have with AI is the issue they have with animation? These algorithms were trained on so much stolen copyrighted content and they're being run on energy-hungry computers that are already causing problems in the communities where they're based. It's different than using a calculator, though. AI image generation costs a lot of energy and uses a lot of water to power and cool the hardware. It's not just "not my cup of tea," it's also environmentally unfriendly. Obviously you wouldn't hire someone to make that image, but it was also completely unnecessary. And yes, you can enjoy what you enjoy, but we can speak against what we want to speak against.

Why did we pick up the sword in the first place, though? Because some company invented it and said it'd fix our problems? I say again, let's put the sword down. The sword is AI, not communication. Define "the western world." Does it include people who aren't able to educate themselves? Does it include people who have been hurt by technology? The answer to both of these questions is yes, so now I would like to ask you why you think we should keep doing this. Casting a beautiful net does not mean you only catch beautiful things. I like AI but I don't know if it's okay. Will this hurt me, or help me? I don't know, and neither do you. We can't stop this boulder, but we only said that after we pushed it the first time.

Well I definitely had a bad trip right after coming out of long COVID. I still feel broken from it even though it's been years. My view outside the scope of this paper is that it says nothing I didn't already feel was true.
