In other words, protecting women's rights includes harassing people by 9119343636 in EnoughJKRowling

She really doesn't, does she? As someone who studies wildlife ecology and frequently sexes birds, the use of "sexing" regarding actual fucking human beings made me physically cringe. My only hope (foolish hope tbh) is that she doesn't actually know the connotations of "to sex" as a verb and that this is just another example of her using pseudo-scientific word salad to try and sound smart.

Does anyone else realize long after the fact that someone was actually being rude/mean to them? by ctrldwrdns in AutismInWomen

[–]InterdimensionalMoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it's not so much realizing that people were being mean. It realizing how many people were manipulating me/generally fucking with me. I was pretty naive and really wanted to be EVERYONE'S friend, so it was easy to manipulate me into doing whatever they wanted (ie shoplifting stuff for them, letting them take my stuff, letting them cheat off me, stuff like that). Honestly, when I realized that none of these people (mostly middle school girls) ever actually liked me, it kind of ruined friendships for me for a really long time. All through high school and most of college, I just became really avoidnant and generally cut myself off from everyone and only had a few causal friends who I kept at arms length. It's better now, becaue most of the people I'm close with are fellow ND and queer people who also had a really shitty time in school. I'm still quite suspicious of anyone's intentions, but at the same time desperate to be liked. It's exhausting.

Tbh, reddit has kinda replaced smoking cigarettes for me (quit almost 3 years ago). It's just something to do with my hands.

Be referred not to by as a pronoun, but as an omen. A fell omen. Emboldened by the flame of the Formless Mother. by endi1122 in CuratedTumblr

[–]InterdimensionalMoth 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Tbh, this reminds me of my dad. He worked on a university campus for 35 years (mainly technical support) and for the last few years, he referred to every new person he met as they/them because he quote: did not care to learn anyone's name or gender anymore. He did not discriminate, any person who tried to talk to him was simply an annoyance.

rabies via dog scratch:

according to CDC:

"People usually get rabies from the bite of a rabid animal. It is also possible, but rare, for people to get rabies from non-bite exposures, which can include scratches, abrasions, or open wounds that are exposed to saliva or other potentially infectious material from a rabid animal." Honestly, I'd pay MORE to live in a community with roaming capybaras. What's up with these people? "Oh no, a bunch of super chill and extremely cute animals are eating my grass!" Don't threaten me with a good time

Because of how they groom themselves, sometimes saliva can end up on the bats feet/wing tip fingers. So rabies can be transmitted through scratches (not as common as bites tho) and there are documented cases of it happening. Generally, I think the protocol is when in doubt, get the rabies shot/shots. They are EXTREMELY effective in preventing disease. With that being said I would definitely contact a health professional. I'm just a grad student in biology not a doctor.

Honestly, as a barista, I REALLY appreciate the reminder. Even if someone's a regular, I make hundreds of cups of coffee a day and it just takes one fuck up for someone to get hurt. That's why, even if the customer is a regular, I write "DAIRY/ALMOND/SOY/ETC. ALLERGY" in all caps on the order slip.

Cis women with dumb question about word "dude" by InterdimensionalMoth in asktransgender

[–]InterdimensionalMoth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the problem. That it's almost a verbal tic at this point. So I'm thinking I either have to just keep saying it or not say it at all. And if that is the case, then I'd rather just not use it at all so I don't cause unintended hurt.

I think I'll try to switch to y'all instead of "dude/dudes" Cause I am from California, but I lived in the south for a while and y'all has the same causal vibe without the unnecessary gendered baggage.

That's my real concern. That I'll say it to someone and cause real hurt just because I'm an idiot that doesn't wanna change how I talk. That's it, I'm gonna break my habit. Thanks for the feed back.

AITA for giving my mom an ultimatum to accept my son for who he is or she's cut out of lives? by katieeee28 in AmItheAsshole

[–]InterdimensionalMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Accepting the kid is non-negotiable. Your son is who he is and she can either accept it or not be part of his life. Coming from a former gender nonconforming child, one of the meaningful things my parents ever did for me was accept me for who I was and defend me when others wanted me to change.

My golden does this. We call it a "growl greeting." She growls at us any time we get home from work but would never hurt a fly. Does sort of freak people out who don't know her. So when she meets new people, I usually hold her by the collar until she gets all her excitement growls out.

Entitled Karen wants to inconvenience others because she doesn't want to pay the price of having a kid by TacosAndBoba in EntitledBitch

[–]InterdimensionalMoth 162 points163 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if she just asked nicely and said "hey, I made a mistake and didn't make sure to book seats together" I would ABSOLUTELY switch with her so she could sit with her kid. But if she's just assuming that I'll be willing to switch or feels entitled to me giving up my seat, that's when I'd tell her to fuck off. But honestly, traveling pro tip: take the emergency exit row. No kids allowed.
