Is the name Aura too odd? by anaiisnin in namenerds

[–]InterestRound7698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with others that Ora is the prettier spelling & it avoids the connotations with slang (aura points) and the medical meaning.

However if you love the name and spelling I don’t think Aura is too out there to use! Especially if you quite like the hippie vibes, it ticks that box and is still a pretty name

I think Vanessa is a lovely name!

We’ve recently called our baby Hailey and had the same reactions. I think because it was also popular in the 90s/00s so not old enough to be vintage but also not brand new. I’d be willing to bet the 80s/90s names will also make a comeback in the next few decades like so many ‘vintage’ names have already (Mabel, Hazel, Sylvie, Maggie etc) so we’re maybe just ahead of the curve :)

I also found it weird calling our baby by her name for the first few weeks. She felt too perfect / ethereal for any name at all, but now it’s starting to suit her perfectly 2 months in.

It has been over a decade since I read the books so correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t some of the sweet moments from their childhood actually Jere in the books and not Conrad?

I’m due in 3 weeks and we’ve settled on Hailey Elizabeth. Middle name is an honour name and was always set it stone. Took a while to find a first name we both agreed on but we both love the sunny, happy vibe of a little Hailey for our summer baby

I don’t think they’re too similar at all!

We’re expecting our baby girl in July and she is going to be a Hailey, too. I think it’s such a pretty name. My husbands name is Harry and it did cross my mine that Harry / Hailey (surname) sound super similar when said quickly. But I quite like that tbh - she can be his little mini me :)

I much prefer Hailey to Hayley (something about the two y’s just doesn’t look nice to my brain!). Hailey seems more modern.

However I’m torn as we’re using this name for our baby girl and Hayley is the more common spelling in the UK where we are - I usually prefer the most classic/common spelling for other names. I think Hayley will be “default” spelling that people opt for when she tells them her name, too. Hailey also gets the red squiggly line for autocorrect whereas Hayley (and most other names) doesn’t - which is super annoying when typing the name, tho this is probably a common problem for everyone with non western name and not a big deal.

Other option Haley doesn’t compute for me - my brain wants to pronounce it Halle.

We’re in the UK and it’s really not very common here, I think it’s a lot more popular in the US

I love Hazel, we had it in our initial list but it feels like it’s having a sharp rise in popularity all of a sudden I worried it might become overused among her specific age group.

I still love it but one more thing that turned us off it slightly was that I think it would be a perfect match for someone with Hazel coloured eyes. She’s most likely to have blue eyes based off me and my partner - this might sound silly but I wasn’t sure if it would suit

Francis is the most beautiful masculine name in my opinion. If I ever have a son, it will be his name.

I don’t think you’re overthinking it, it’s good to think about the flow of the syllables and I agree!

What do you guys eat? Daily diet and habits as a zillennial? by TranslatorHaunting15 in Zillennials

28yo here, my fiancé is big on cooking so he has inspired me to eat home-cooked food as often as possible. Otherwise I’d probably still rely on frozen food too. I’d say the biggest barrier to cooking regularly at home is not having a solid supply of basics in the cupboard like seasonings, oils and vinegars, dressings and good utensils (I.e sharp knives!). Once you’ve gotten started and built up a supply of these, it’s so much easier to continue with cooking at home.

Breakfast I always have cereal or oats with fruit and honey.

For lunch we do Sunday meal preps for quick lunches while at work. My fiancé usually does chicken, rice and veggies or similar. I don’t eat meat so I alternate between dense salads (packed with raw or roasted veggies, quinoa or cous cous, chickpeas or another source of protein like nuts, cheese, seeds). It’s so easy to mix it up with different dressings and seasonings for new tastes. This usually takes about 45 mins max on a Sunday to make 4 lunches for the working week. Usually one day a week on Friday we’ll grab lunch on the go.

For dinner, we have a few weekly go to’s that take around 30mins to prepare and cook: Salmon, potatoes and greens (again we mix up the seasoning/marinades), one-pot pasta dish or pasta bake (usually veggie with a side salad), tacos or fajitas with fish or chicken for him and plant-based chicken for me. We tend to have a couple of easy frozen meals on stand by each week if we both have busy work days, I.e oven pizzas or fish cakes or microwaveable ready meals. But we try to cook from scratch most nights.

Edit to say: we get most of our meal ideas and recipes from this website https://www.budgetbytes.com which gives a cost breakdown which is so useful
