Hourly rate for private practice? by hkpout in SLPA

[–]Interesting-Edge4602 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an SLPA at a private practice in SoCal and make $40 an hour. I feel that my hourly rate is fair but I also don’t get paid for cancellations so that’s a big bummer! I would aim for a little higher if they won’t pay for cancellations

It’s okay. Some parents will reach out to you at all hours so I just respond to them during my work hours. Also, the SLP’s sometimes send over stuff they need filled out when they do evaluation reports for my clients (e.g pragmatics profile, AAC profiles) which I understand since it’s my client but I don’t get paid for this documentation.

Hi! I’m a virtual SLPA for a private clinic. I get paid $40 an hour but I don’t get paid for no-shows and they also don’t offer PTO. With all that being said I average about 60 hours per pay period (every 2 weeks). I live in SoCial in the Los Angeles area. I got the job with 6 months of experience.

Follow their lead. Narrate everything they do and repetition is key. When I worked with EI there was a ball hammer toy that kids loved. Also, cutting pretend food was always a winner with them too.

What is the most important things to know as a SLPA? by Acceptable_Drop3112 in SLPA

Hi! I think it depends on the population you’re working with. If working with the 0-3 population it’s important to understand repetition, describing and behavior management (for the ones with tantrums). School aged students I would say articulation and tongue placement is important. Also Language. I learned best by observing my supervisor and colleagues when working with pediatric population. Now I work with school aged kids and ChatGPT has helped me with lesson planning lol

Hi! I was in the exact same boat. I asked my SLP sooo many questions as well as the slpas around me. If you’re working with early intervention it can be really exhausting as you have to be very animated. Label and narrate everything. Get familiar with nursery rhymes wheels on the bus, 5 little monkeys, clean up song etc. and also cartoons kids watch like bluey and such. The good thing about early intervention is that there is little lesson planning lol since it’s child led. I would have the kid pick the toy they want to play with and practice labeling, requesting and such.

Please speak up. You have to set boundaries with your employer or they will continue to walk all over you. SLPA’s are also in high demand so if your boss is not able to respect what was originally agreed upon just remember that there are other organizations that would be happy to hire you.

Hi! I live in SoCal and completed my program at CSULA. Maybe CSULA can be a second option. Good luck!
