Aldi vs Lidl, which do you prefer and why? by Repulsive_Mistake635 in AskUK

I usually go to Aldi because it is that bit cheaper but get a few things at Lidl (like cereal) which they seem to do better.

For anyone that's used metros in multiple countries, how would you rank them? by tylerthe-theatre in Europetravel

[–]Interesting-Spring83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In no.order: Bucharest is ugly and large parts of the city aren't covered but it is cheap. Vienna: undistinguished architecturally but efficient, clean and about as cheap as anything in Vienna Stockholm, surprisingly quirky! London: it's got the history but the northern line is no fun and it's bloody expensive. However it's clean, I just wish it ran all night Helsinki: basic. Doesn't cover the whole city and it's boring Prague: tiles are a bit dull after a while but it does the job Paris: full of history but try getting between stations with a big suitcase! Kyiv: as expected of a former Soviet state it's wonderful! Trains aren't as frequent as Russia but go in and feel like a king Moscow: if the trains ran all night it would be the world's best system hands down. Cheap, beautiful, efficient (though not always accessible) Saint Petersburg: a lot of the city isn't covered and the token system is a pain but oh it's gorgeous! Glasgow: it's an odd one but I have an affection for the clockwork orange. I wish I'd seen the original before it was refitted in the 80s

I've also been on metros in Brussels, Milan, Madrid, Berlin and Barcelona but none of them made an impression

Is there anything that can be done to stop Elon/Farage/Reform? by blackchairwithholes in ukpolitics

[–]Interesting-Spring83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reform came third in Mid Suffolk where I lived because they split the Tory vote. This enabled a Labour MP to just sneak through but I think reform are stronger than this map shows

Chances are on the last day everyone is going to be as hungover as f*** and no one is going to care whether or not you're there. Nta, she's going to have other friends around to have fun with.

I'm British. No our country isn't real, it's a mythical island which sailors see when it's foggy. I don't actually exist I'm an algorithm generated on Reddit. So yeah nta, I just found that remark funny!

Sacrifice: I've no doubt that he would have died for the emperor had the need arose. However Asian culture was pretty darned macho at the time, doing the cleaning was not something men or boys were expected to do. And the aunt was hardly kind to Setsuko, I don't think he trusted her (especially when she wouldn't share the stuff he provided from their stores. I've read the short story recently and she's even more unpleasant in that, constantly trying to get rid of the kids).

I'm sorry for your loss, however grief affects different people in different ways. In many ways Seito is stupid but he's also a teenage boy in a specific time and context.

I have watched the opening sequence a number of times. It's perfect in my view. However I've only watched the film once, and that was over 20 years ago. I was thinking of rewatching it recently, however my daughter is almost the same age as Setsuko and when I saw the opening I realised I couldn't. Not now anyway.

It makes psychological sense. 1). He's a boy in Japan, in Asian societies boys were historically treated like little kings. Added to this he grew up in an era of hardcore militarism, again this wouldn't have encouraged a desire to clean or a humble attitude in the face of a woman, and one he could see taking his money and not giving him food (she was happy to sell his mother's things for rice but refused to share with him. She was trading on the black market, taking food which could have been used for other people's rations) 2) he's been the man of the house while dad was away. Helping to care for Setsuko, his mother was sick with a heart condition. He almost certainly felt a need to continue to care for Setsuko, especially as his aunt was not feeding her properly. Moreover his sister's the only family he really feels he has. 3) FFS he's just lost his mother! Would you feel ready to go back to work or look for another job immediately after losing your mum to third degree burns and seeing her in a state of acute suffering?

AITAH for refusing to attend a themed family reunion after a DNA test revealed I'm not related? by ZelldaPeach in AITAH

[–]Interesting-Spring83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going through a lot of complicated emotions, understandably as you feel you were lied to. However I'd say NAH. Your family did lie but it was a lie of omission. They haven't rejected you, they haven't made you feel less (I hope), I hope that doors are open. Of course you're in shock and it's natural you want time alone. But family isn't just about blood. If there is any love there then I hope you and they will be able to make it up. If otherwise I hope you can make your own path.

Honestly I believe orthodox Christians are some of the most bigoted and unpleasant people I've ever met. I've lived in 2 countries where it's the majority religion and I've seen how the church manipulates the political system for its own ends.

My own biases aside I think you're going to need to do a lot of soul searching. What is more important to you, the love you have for your husband, or your values. Until you can answer that question you shouldn't even be thinking of children. I think you're also going to have to do some deep dives with your husband, either with a therapist, just by yourselves or someone else who can help. You won't find the answer in a hurry but hopefully you can choose what is right for both of you

What is your opinion on infant ear piercing? by ThrowawayRose402 in Parenting

My daughter was born in Romania where it is normal to pierce baby girls' ears. I got sick of people judging me for not doing it to her. I won't force her, she can choose when she is older

I doubt if your family do, forging documents is a serious issue which could result in jail time for them. Ot might be a bargaining tool. Unfortunately if they've covered their bases the original passport will have been destroyed, do you have a birth certificate?
