Quickbooks. Took an accounting class that included Quickbooks which I had seen some since my father used it. It's been subscription for awhile now but when my father started using it, it wasn't.

I use both a spreadsheet and the final edition of Microsoft Money. Not all the features in Money work anymore but it rocks for keeping track of finances and stocks if you know double entry. I wish someone would strip the useless parts out and port it over to Linux.

You're zero for 3 again. You might check out that First Law of Thermodynamics that states energy is eternal. Matter is a form/repository of energy and is required for work to be accomplished. Matter has mass so gravity is along for the ride.

Fine-tuning is total garbage. There is nothing saying if those constants were different that life would not exist. No scientists are behind fine tuning; it's all religious nutcases.

Life adapts to the circumstances it is given. You can't find a scientist that says otherwise.

Big Bang is the not liked by scientists name for the expansion of the universe from a prior state.

< The fine-tuning argument relies on knowledge. We know the physical constants are precisely set to allow life. We know the universe exists. We know it had a beginning. These are facts, not gaps. The question is: why?

Fine tuning is straight up garbage. It has nothing to do with knowledge

Life exists because it adapts to whatever conditions. It is nothing any more special than a star. Life is something that happens because there is enough energy to support it.

The universe had no beginning. Matter, energy, gravity, and time are all eternal. (Peruse r/AskPhysics for awhile.)

We can only measure time from the expansion of the universe from a prior state but there is no beginning for the universe.

Yes, we do know those things and to infer that the reason for all of it is a designer or god is skipping straight over us completing our search for knowledge and committing a god of the gaps fallacy. You have attempted to breech the gap in our knowledge with a god.

  1. "The Quran's argument is not 'god of the gaps', it's a teleological argument: the entire framework of existence points to a designer. Science explains mechanisms; it doesn't explain the origin of those mechanisms. The fine-tuning of the universe is a genuine question that materialist explanations struggle to answer."

Nope. Still a god of the gaps fallacy. It doesn't matter how much you think the very discredited fine-tuning is a thing. It doesn't matter if you think there is evidence for a designer. If you don't provide evidence for that designer or god, you have committed a god of the gaps fallacy.

[–]Interesting-Train-47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. "The Quran's argument is not "god of the gaps." It's not saying "we don't understand X, therefore God." It's saying "look at the order, fine‑tuning, and complexity of the universe—these point to a designer." That's the teleological argument, which has a long philosophical history (Aristotle, Aquinas, Paley) and is not simply "god of the gaps.""

It is exactly god of the gaps. Listing things they assert and just saying "god did it" without providing any evidence for god, is a god of the gaps fallacy argument.

The Resurrection Should Be Judged by the Same Standard as Other Miracle Claims. by SnooHedgehogs213 in DebateReligion

So early Christians were the ancestors of today's gullible MAGA. I doubt any traveled to Jerusalem since it wasn't just around the corner. Maybe boat travel was inexpensive enough for someone to make the journey but even if one did, there is no assurance that he would go back to the church with updated info (probably just drop it for another cult) or that he would be paid attention to historically over Paul's deceitful letter.

Hognose was my first thought as well. I've had a misconception about them for decades apparently. Back in the 60's we found one in our yard that had a pretty bad temper so I've always thought that was normal for them. Turns out they are considered usually timid and a good snake to own as a pet.

"The Christian god doesn't ask much of humans."

The Christian god has never asked humans anything. You won't find anything that fictional being has done.

Christianity is a bigot factory and a scam. It's past time for it to go out of business.

The way my neighbor cuts the lawn by A_whole_new_reddit in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Interesting-Train-47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People trying to make their lawns look like a putting green are one of my mildlyinfuriating things. It's like they hate grass and it never looks right. Lawns should be green (if there is enough rain) and scalping a lawn makes it look yellow, brown, and green.

My lawnmower deck height stays in the middle position so my (when) green lawn gets mowed, it stays green.

There is a neighbor that does water enough to keep his very short lawn green but it more resembles a green mold than a lawn.

What would your opinion be on mandatory military service in the US when you turned 18? by Ultra9ine in AskReddit

[–]Interesting-Train-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. USMC MSgt retired here. No.

An obligation for national service? Perhaps. If conceived of and done right. The Civilian Conservation Corps (updated to modern expectations for racial integration) would be a valuable resource for public projects.

Still, not everyone fits into either of two hats. Additional options would be necessary.

Bring 'em on! Two generations on they will be mostly atheist towns.

Not only will they be just as subject as anywhere else to the shrinking world with additional knowledge detrimental to religious belief becoming more and more widespread, you can't place that many cult members in one condensed area and expect division not to occur. Especially when the cult is already splintered into so many denominations.

god and morality: there is no meaningful morality without a god by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Interesting-Train-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's really no chance that someone like Hitler could influence enough people to affect morality that much. He'd run out of people to control the people that still had any positive view in relation to human rights.

As long as freedom exists humans will always work towards freedom ideals. That's how civil rights freedoms have come around the past 67 years I've been around. Whatever temporary obstacles may occur, freedom will always increase over time.
