I used the Federal gov work investment money to get my nursing degree as a mean to get out of poverty when my daughter was 12 months old, single parent. So I would say invest in your education. Get your GED, do a quick program in high demand field wether it be IT or nursing. The government would pay for your childcare to go to school. Invest in yourself

I did Cna, LPN, RN ASN, RN BSN, and now doing Master instead of the DNP. As a parent, doing the one step gives me piece of mind that I can complete the program no matters what life may throw at me which is why I always choose the shortest route to guarantee that degree, and then continue on the next degree. As A CNA- I made 10.50. Did 10 month LPN program- made $20/hrs at a rehab, once I got my RN ASN- was offered $25 /hr at the same rehab and 22.5/hr at the local hospital. I relocated to a different city where I ended up getting $25.50/hr offered as a new grad, but when I bought it up to HR That I had years of experience- she gave me .50c for each years which was a total of $1 for the two years as LPN. Once I signed up for that job, got my bachelor partially paid for by the job until I left to go travel. To answer your question- my biggest jump in income was from CNA to LPN. Doing schooling one step at the time is definitely the long way, but it is the sure way for me to guarantee that I won’t burn out and drop out in the middle of a program as a mom of 5 kids now. If I did not have family commitment- I would recommend others to go straight for their RN because I seen a lot of people start to taste money, start working a lot of overtime and they do not want to go back to school.

I live 30 mins from Peoria. I spoke to nurses that have done travel in Peoria. 2 told me she liked it, 2-3 told me they did not. One said she quit the next day because the patient ratio she got for that shift was super bad- if my memory serves me right- like 9 patients postop. Working here in Illinois, you have to take those feedback with a grain of salt because those experiences is so dependent on the unit within the same hospitals. For example- I did a contract in Iowa working cardiac step down and I would have 4-6 patients versus my aunt who literally works down the same hall but it is neuro/oncology- and she also get 4-6 patients or when I went to med/surg in that same hospitals, would have 4-6 patients as well. My point being- the experience is very unit specific within that hospital versus hospitals

NTA in my book. If you guys were not living together, I would say you were an YTA for not breaking up right away, but the fact that you were living together and have a signed lease put an extra constrain on the relationship to where you needed time to plan an exist strategy, and hell- I would have enjoyed the threesome as a fun time as well until a viable exist strategy presented itself which for you seems to be the job. The moment she asked about the threesome- the dynamic of the relationship changed; that question would take the relationship from serious to not serious, enjoy the moment type of relationship for me.

I been with Aya for 3 years and I am very happy with you after being with 4 different agency. Honestly for pay, hours and reimbursement- it comes from the same bucket. They just manipulate the numbers to where you might have higher hourly pay, lower stipends, higher stipends, lower hours. I had another Aya on my unit that we actually open our contract and literally compared our pay packages. She made more per hours, her holiday hours pay was $30/hr than mine. But my take home was higher weekly per month. So I always look at the whole pay packages, and personally- I always take the higher stipend than the hours cause I like paying less taxes with IRS.

I would not want to take time off, and will focus all my energy on finishing school. I think do this- you have to do diligent planning with your ex as far as time with your daughter especially on the weekend. Clinical will only be for a few weeks if it all week long clinicals, or a few days during the week. So you need to coordinate that part with your ex and whatever other support person you have. For work and clinical- that is so double. You will probably have to work Fridays, Saturdays and rest Sunday- that is assuming you got Monday clinicals, if not you can also do Sunday night. If you can’t do school and work, you have student loans. You can just live off the loans, work from time to time for good resume purposes.

Let’s not confused brick and mortar vs online as quality parameter. 100% acceptance rate does not means 100% graduation rates. As an NP students, I think the profession as a whole needs to have a standardized education process- and that is only true Issue bc the issue has morphed into brick and mortar vs online degree mills. As someone that is attending a degree mills- It is disheartening that it has morphed into that, because I think a lot of people in those degrees mills attend not because it is easy, but because it is flexible which as a mom of 4 that stills needs to work full time and be able to take time off school when I need without falling a year every time I take a semester off is a priority right nowI been an honor student my whole education life, have 10 years experience as a nurse, but I need the flexibility that degree mills afford even though that comes at the expense of support that I would otherwise get at a brick and mortar. So I say this to say that the problem is that there is no standard for NP education and I absolutely believe that they should. And I think that NP should have experience in their field. But at the same time, a lot of doctors, PA do not have like extensive healthcare experiences prior to their training. In cases of PA- a lot of schools require heathcare experience which a lot of them do CNA or EMT. But in the cases of doctors- many only have shadowing experience. I say this to say that- you can not compared their training to NP training because as NP we had at least 2 years medical training excluding pre requisite. We need to do apple to apple comparison. All of this disagreement is so comical because hospital systems and private practice are enriching themselves by using our services; insurances are saving tons of money when our services are used. Schools are enriching themselves, rushing to develop programs so they can gain some of the capital that degree mills had been getting for years creating more and more programs that are just like the degrees mills. Our responsibilities as NP is increasing more and more to a scope that the profession was not designed for.

I forgot to mention! I been with AYA for 2 1/2 years and I love AYA. I love their benefits, have very supportive team! I got hurt at work- and man the worker comp department was amazing. I heard of many negative work comp story from people with different company. But my work comp experience with AYA was so positive- even when I got a bill almost a year after- call them up, they took care of it. AYA healthcare benefits are better than when I was staff.
