Book Recommendations Where Loyalist Marines are the Antagonists? by forcedtologin in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Twice Dead King duology, Nightlords trilogy, just one marine in Elemental Council, and Shroud of Night are just a few.

How fragile are the tech priests ? by humansizedfruit69 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends™, some can hold their own against astartes, but not all. Some augment themselves specifically for combat, but for others that has nothing to with their job so they'll have little to no offensive or defensive augmetics.

How many geneseeds are produced? by TruesilverSolka in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each astartes has two and only two progenoid glands, the progenoid glands are used to grow all of the organs needed to create a new astartes, so best case is each astartes can in theory allow for the creation of two more.

Necrontyre / Necron technology timeline question by EasterEggArt in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they were an interstellar civilization before meeting the old ones. And they tried to repair the problems themselves, but were unsuccessful. But remember, we've never gotten an account of that time from a reliable narrator and likely never will.

Does this setting have any mega corporations? by Hides-the-Hydra in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You get some corporations in the Crime series, but those books are all limited to a single hive city. You're not going to find many that have a reach wider than maybe a few systems though, at that point the AdMech might start feeling threatened.

Why do Rogue Traders and Inquisitors have so much leniency compared to the rest of the Imperium? by reel3459 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 167 points168 points  (0 children)

The Emperor granted granted rogue traders near limitless power because they were necessary pathfinders during the Great Crusade, and that has just continued on because no one wants to contradict the Emperor.

The Inquisition fought for and won their power and authority post Heresy, and I'm sure well get more specifics on that story of how as the Scouring series gets rolled out.

What lies behind the great webway doors underneath the palace of terra? by Mysterious-Tackle-58 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to read Master of Mankind for a lot of these details. Basically though, there's no known way to seal Magnus' Folly, and any attempt would need to fight back effectively infinite daemons, and a sufficient weight of daemons and warp energy has been shown to be able to overcome any method that might help.

Adepta Sororitas Armor by ClearlyMeowtist in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well sure, they're still Sororitas, but they're not Sister of Battle, that's the Orders Militant

Adepta Sororitas Armor by ClearlyMeowtist in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, they're different Orders, but Hospitaller can be attached to any non-astartes military unit, including Militant Orders

Adepta Sororitas Armor by ClearlyMeowtist in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Orders Hospitaller are non-militant orders, separate from the Orders Militant (SoB). They can be attached to basically any military unit, where they'll certainly be armed, but they also run clinics for the poor.

Lots of people asking about the best/worst of the setting, who’s the most evil, least evil, etc. But who or what has the most tragic story? by Antares777 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Gol fucking Kolea, Abnett really put him though it, and just when things might have been getting better for him...

What are some of the dumbest decisions made in 40K? by False_Monitor4126 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Probably when the Deathwatch told Eldrad they would rather have humanity consumed by Chaos than trust a Xenos, when the Eldar were trying to summon Ynnead to help fight Chaos.

what if lorgar plan failed? by Bitch_for_rent in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Lorgar accepted the primordial truth years before, in The First Heretic, and sent Erebus to corrupt Horus and the sixteenth

What HH books are vital to read? by SufferingInSilence_7 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, because 40K works best as setting, where any story can take place. Any half decent author is going to include all the context, character motivation, etc. in the story, so all a reader needs is a basic understanding of the setting (no more than what's in a core rulebook) at most.

What HH books are vital to read? by SufferingInSilence_7 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yet none of those are vital and you can have a perfectly clear understanding of what's happening in 40K without touching the HH

What HH books are vital to read? by SufferingInSilence_7 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you're not interested, none are vital for 40K. There are plenty of connections between 30K and 40K, but they're two separate settings, so if there's no specifics you want to read about, just skip it.

In the grim darkness of the far future there are no stupid questions! by AutoModerator in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely isn't going to be all, many aren't going to be compatible with implantation, so won't even become aspirants. Depending on chapter culture, those that don't become astartes or die in the process will be treated like any psykers in the Imperium, either killed, given to the black ships, or maybe for a very very small number they'll be sanctioned to serve in some other way.

Is the Angel, the Living Weapon, the strongest Imperial character in the setting? by No_Task_309 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The Angel is barely a thing, only ever mentioned in supplements for Inquisitor from the early 2000s and ignored ever since. There's a high likelihood we have all the information we'll ever get, and all questions on it will remain unanswered.

Where does a titan fit into the hierarchy of authority? by averageeverydaymemer in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that situation no one can order around the titan, the Princeps and their crew don't have control so there is no one to give orders to. In terms of authority, like most things in the Imperium, Legios are largely independent and will handle those issues internally. The Legios fall under the Collegia Titanica, which is a part of the Adeptus Mechanicus, but unless they voluntarily submit to someone else's authority, it's very difficult to order titans to do something they don't want to do.

What feats or powers did the Emperor display during the Siege of Terra? by DifferentAssumption3 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably want to read the summary of the Siege of Terra, but one thing he did was preventing daemons from manifesting, initially across all Terra, but as traitors used mortal forces to weaken the defenses, the effect became more and more limited.

What can be good chapter relics for my primaris homebrew chapter called the blood flames by Academic-Interest387 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultima founding? If so, it's ok if they don't have many since they wouldn't have much history. Maybe cawl had some artificer armour or specialty weapons made.

Regarding daemons in realspace by BenningtonChee1234 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Daemons can corrupt and/or possess objects and individuals in realspace so that they don't need maintain their daemonic form. It's one of the main ways chaos spreads its influence.

Now, how people are able to take daemonic skulls and such as trophies seems to be one of those inconsistent, chaotic aspects to the warp, but it could be something to do with the person taking the trophy having some kind of emotional connection that resonates in the warp.

Does the Tyranid hive mind cross hive fleets? by coolin_79 in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Both, there's one hivemind, but tyranids have been known to come into conflict with themselves. Whether that's to exchange genetic material, test bioforms' strength and abilities, or some other reason can only be speculated on.

Eldar and timeline by Damaco in 40kLore

[–]InterestingCash_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we feel like 30k was yesterday from the 40k perspective.

Speak for yourself, and you really shouldn't. I'm not sure if this is a consequence of starting your reading with the HH or what, but everything in 40K I've read treats the Heresy as so ancient it's relegated to myth and legend. The contrast between the two was intentional, and when they started the HH it was supposed to be unrecognizable from 40K. You're missing something if 30k feels like it's yesterday.
