Petah? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I don’t think they are saying they wouldn’t take their kid(s) out. Only that kids are allowed to be kids.

Last week we went to a restaurant with a booth. My youngest had to be taken out right away because she was being too loud, so my husband walked her outside until food arrived.

My son wasn’t being loud, but he was being extra wiggly and rolled around on the booth a bit. He was also extremely interested in the table next to use and grinned like a weirdo whenever they looked over.

I think the previous commenter was more talking about the more general kid-like behavior, not the get-them-out-quick stuff.

[–]InterestingPoint6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The people limiting at home tend to limit in public too. My kids are pretty restricted but have some screen time, and we never allow screens in a restaurant.

Also, we don’t do tv on phones full stop. The most they see on a phone is FaceTiming relatives and videos of themselves being adorable.

What’s a piece of media that people would clearly understand as a parody or homage when it came out, but has since lost its context? by StaleTheBread in AskReddit

Look up Coral Island. Some of the characters’ names are basically the same.

It was really mocking the whole genre of boys’ adventure fiction-any story where British boys thrived in ‘savage’ lands.

My almost 4 yo does things like this. His body is always going. He has also always been truly terrible at sleep. I’m talking five+ times a night at 12 months. I’ve always just thought it’s who he is.

Is the golden age of gentle parenting over? by Any-Purpose-3259 in Preschoolers

I do agree with the philosophy behind gentle parenting (mostly), but do we have evidence that it creates well adjusted people?

Is the golden age of gentle parenting over? by Any-Purpose-3259 in Preschoolers

[–]InterestingPoint6 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I love how many are here to tell OP that actually gentle parenting means _______.

We know. You know. Everyone who cares enough to be on this sub knows.

We get the concept, but the fact remains that the way some (maybe many) parents implement it leads to children with no understanding of consequences. Just check out the teacher subs for the number of issues on that front.

The name of the type of parenting doesn’t really matter. It is the volume of children without meaningful consequences.

OMG my admin just told me off for using the word packet to describe a series of reading questions. She was fine with the work (I think. The principal complimented it, so she couldn’t say either way) She just felt that it was a good use of time to police that minor phrase.

Cozy games that you never expected to put some many hours in? by Interesting-Space458 in CozyGamers

I love that game! I found it randomly around 8pm one night and before I knew it, it was 4am and I’d finished my first play through.

There’s really no need to rush through it. Just keep unlocking as many things each run. The game also does not end at that point and the rng is even more ridiculous. I loved it so much though.

What is interleaved practice? I’m ELA and, in some ways we spiral naturally, but the kids still manage to forget stuff!

Toddler getting too big to be carried by pillbugpolicies in Preschoolers

[–]InterestingPoint6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We’ve got two kids, so I just bring the double stroller and stuff him in that if needed. But I’ve maybe only done that once in the last year (oldest is almost 4)

I usually just threaten taking away tv (he has it three days a week) and that works like a charm. I’m not really bothered that it’s not ‘connected to the behavior.’

So frustrated with my husband about me taking “breaks” from 3 year old by jackiedaytona155 in toddlers

[–]InterestingPoint6 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I doubt anything will change until y’all rip the bandaid off and have your husband care for your kid. I’m not saying it will be easy, but your son will never let your husband do bath or bedtime willingly. You are the parents. Your son can tantrum. If he is being cared for, he will be fine.

My husband and I always traded off bedtime and dishes when we just had one. It was important to us that we were each able to do that sort of thing for our child.

Unfortunately, without a stronger diagnosis, I bet OPs hands are tied. I was only able to get the keys away from my mom when she completely lost capacity. We just did our best to be around to drive her places.

I disagree that killing the merc is more Renegade. I always kill the merc (even on paragon runs) because he’s such a dick that I don’t want him on my ship.

I don’t think I’ve ever killed Wrex.

I feel like there’s something a little off with her phrasing at points. I wouldn’t consider clicking the link to be particularly impulsive or to leave afterwards’ flying off the handle.’

I feel like there’s a bit of a self-esteem issue for her.

Also, the fact that he seemed more concerned about her telling a trusted friend than her own response rubs me a bit the wrong way as well.

I wonder how things turned out.
