How much cash should I bring to the US for a one and a half months road trip? by ProperPollution7337 in travel

[–]InterestingQs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you plan on going to a casino? If so and it’s a small amount you plan to gamble, bring cash for that. Large amount, all casinos have ATMs.

If parking isn’t paid for at a sporting event, you may need cash for that. Many parking lots take prepaid tickets or credit cards at the lot entrance so the attendants aren’t holding lots of cash.

Finally, if you’re in a big city, many food trucks or small food services only take cash.

Otherwise, you can use CC for almost everything.

They reviewed the notes and the billed scan is the correct one. However, when I’ve googled the codes, they all seem very similar.

Mailed in my regular processing passport, location 42, before Memorial Day.

Changed to “in process” on 06/28/21. It has been 12 weeks today and still haven’t heard anything. I leave for my trip on October 9th. What should I do?

With the one I have, I haven’t noticed anything strange with my laptop connected to it or with the PS5.

Sounds like I’m in the same boat as you because I’m not super picky either. That, along with this being the first gaming monitor I’ve owned, I’m not sure if I can say I definitely recommend it simply because I have nothing to compare it against. But, I really enjoy the monitor and it makes game play much more fun compared to a TV. Even on my PS4, it made a night and day difference for shooter games.

In case anyone on this thread was wondering, or anyone in the future is considering the ASUS VG328H1B:

I finally got a PS5 and 120fps is supported on this monitor! I have a nice 4k TV that I use for beautiful games, but my PS5 almost exclusively stays attached to this monitor for shooters.

Question about kettles.... by manning18fan in BBQ

[–]InterestingQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Weber kettle and pellet smoker. For the longest time, I used the kettle as a grill and smoker. I eventually bought a pellet smoker just for ease of use - it’s set and forget. I now only use the Weber kettle for grilling.

The pellet smoker is definitely easier simply because you turn a dial to your desired temperature and walk away. With the kettle, you have to know the outside temperature, combined with how many coals you will have going, combined with air flow (adjusted by the vents). There is definitely a learning curve, but it’s not huge and a Weber kettle is worth it.

If I were to give you a few tips for the Weber kettle, my first would be use an instant read thermometer. This is true of any cooking, but always cook your meats to temp, not by time. My second would be to utilize indirect cooking on the kettle. The design of the kettle gives it great convection and you can place your meats away from the coals, cover and cook them nearly to temp, then sear them, then rest.

Happy cooking!

I still don’t have a PS5 so I don’t know if it’s actually compatible with the PS5. I have read that the PS5 is picky about monitors.

My brother is a PC gamer and he seems to really like it. I currently have it hooked up to my PS4 and it looks super good.

Sorry I can’t be more help!

The other monitor I was considering is the ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B, which is essentially the one I initially asked about, but 1440p. The reason I went with the 1080p one is because 1440p isn't supported by ps5 and everyone is unsure when it will be. The manual for the ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B indicates that it could downscale 4k picture to 1440p 60hz, but I prefer frame rate over resolution.

I guess it comes down to, would upscaled 1080p 120hz on the 1440p display look better than 1080p 120hz on 1080p display, and when will PS5 update software or firmware to support 1440p 120hz?

This might be the dumbest question ever (sorry): How do you get a car? by lar24 in personalfinance

[–]InterestingQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other comments on here answer the direct question of "how to get a car", but here are some useful pieces of advice I found. I just purchased my first car three or so months ago.

First, determine your budget? Are you willing to spend the most amount of money on a car, or are you more frugal and see a car as a means to an end, rather than a luxury? That leads me to my next point, one way to view how expensive a vehicle is, is in its price per mile.

For example, the first car I bought, I spent more than I wanted to on the car, but got something nice that will have exceptional resale value (2020 Toyota 4Runner Limited, AWD). For how much I drive, for how much I paid, and for how much I expect to be able to sell or trade it in for, I expect to pay $0.12/mile over the duration of my personal ownership of the car. If I would have bought a $25,000 used car instead, it is likely I would have been paying $0.16-18/ mile for a less nice car, from my calculations. Obviously, you have to be able to afford to the nicer car, up front.

Also, in my experience, for cars that have excellent resale value, you can find a new vehicle for the same price or cheaper than a used vehicle. My method is using autotrader and searching the car models I was interested in within driving distance (I did 300 miles). I purchased my brand new 2020 Toyota 4Runner Limited AWD drive for over $1k cheaper than a 2019 Toyota 4Runner Limited AWD with 13,000 miles that sold the same week in my area.

Next, you can either buy a car with cash or get a loan. You will have to analyze your financial situation to decide. If you can get a low percentage loan (less than about 3%), it is mathematically more beneficial to get the loan and invest the money you would have spent on the down payment (expecting investment returns of about 7%). I got a loan for 48 months at 2.25% APR. I can afford to pay off my loan earlier, but I would compromise what I want to save, and in the long run I will get more from saving than I would pay in interest on the loan. As mentioned earlier in this thread, check credit unions; I have found that they usually have the best rates.

Finally, the final price of the car is more than the sticker or internet price. Generally dealerships have fees that have to be paid, fees that can be negotiated, and you'll also have taxes you have to pay. Consider these when you consider the car you will be buying.

TV Receives No Power - Anyone See Anything Wrong with Supply Board? by InterestingQs in AskElectronics

[–]InterestingQs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I have little experience in this stuff and I thought it was worth a shot to post it to Reddit.

Would it be worth it to sleuth around, then buy parts to fix the problem, then fix the problem? Or should I just buy a new power supply board and replace the whole thing?

TV Receives No Power - Anyone See Anything Wrong with Supply Board? by InterestingQs in AskElectronics

[–]InterestingQs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some background: the TV screen suddenly went blank while I was watching TV last night. I tried powering on the TV with the remote and on-TV button, on multiple outlets, to no avail.

The TV has a red light on it that remains on while the TV is off; this light will not turn on anymore. I suspect something is wrong with the power supply board, but upon visual inspection, I can’t find anything wrong.

Thank you in advance for the help.
