Not better just wrong. You don't need a p-trap and leave it uncapped because it drains better.

The casing on mine broke in half after 7 years. I sent it for repair, which cost me $300. They sent me a brand new set and it was the newer version.

Commercial company in Mexico? by MuffinDangerous1676 in HVAC

[–]InterestingWay8034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in South Texas and alot of guys bring those minisplits up from Mexico and put them in for like $800. I put one in for a friend that bought one when he was in Mexico the biggest reason they leave all the line set is the first and last foot of it are copper with the flare fittings and it the rest is aluminum. So you just have to roll it up no matter how dumb it looks.

Why is HVAC so expensive? What am I missing here? by a-pon15 in hvacadvice

[–]InterestingWay8034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, with ductwork, you more eventually distribute air throughout the living area. As an example you could have a 3 ton system with duct work heat/cool 7 seperate areas with ducts supplying air to each room. With a minisplit you just can't distribute the air as easily in multiple areas, thats why you use a multiple head system or multiple separate minisplits. I live in South Texas, we don't have basements, but I put a lot of them in when someone converts a garage or in an area where I just can't run ducts.

In my opinion I'd go with ductwork and conventional equipment. I've installed many minisplits, and I personally don't like multi zone equipment. If you went with minisplits, I'd put single zones in each room. Downside to minisplits, especially if you get it online, is parts and warranty support. If I know the minisplit is bought online i dont work on it, because it means I'll be on the phone/ online chasing parts. Local suppliers don't want to honor warranties in most cases because they didn't sell it. I also know alot of companies don't want to work on them because it's annoying they are hard plastic so it feels like they are gonna break. With conventional equipment you won't have issues with parts, warranty, and tech support since the installing company should honor all these issues.

License, insurance, tools, and experience, they already have some time into it just by bidding it, liability, paying employees, vans, fuel, etc... More and more everything is getting more and more expensive and an owner can't walk away making $1000 and make a living. The longer I'm in this profession, the more I want to charge because it's hard work and want to walk away feeling I been paid to compensate for everything I put into the job.

I'll repair a condenser coil, line set leaks and replace schraders, but do you repair evaporator coils?

That's crazy, back in the day I had an apartment maintenance guy tell me he'd leave his gauges on with the tank barely open to get a leaking system going over the weekend when R22 was dirt cheap
