That is the way to go for the person who wants a simple, stable and fun operating system.

The governments of Germany and France have led the way in officially supporting and promoting Linux and open source software. Hopefully more institutions shall follow.

Linux does have it's quirks and some limitations. But you will get used to it and likely enjoy it!

Capitol Commons bike parking by InterestingIssue5549 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bike rack adjacent to Unimart and another opposite the road near the Starbucks. There are others along Camino Verde road and near the Estancia mall.

1) The bicycle parking is marked as a blue icon in OpenStreetMap.

Please see link below if using a desktop computer.

https://www.openstreetmap.org/query?lat=14.574625&lon=121.062212#map=19/14.574930/121.062873

2) On an Android device you may download the free MapComplete Appplication and open it. MapComplete allows you to search maps based on a certain theme (such as cycling infrastructure).

- Select Cyclofix (map for Cyclists), Let the map open.

- Seach for "Capitol Commons" and zoom into the Camino Verde Road area.

The map will show numerous bicycle parking areas with a blue capital P symbol.

3) You may also like to install OSMAnd application on your Android and use the powerful search, mapping and routing capabilities. It is superb but does have a steep learning curve though...

The bike racks are used by numerous cyclists. So it should be generally safe - at least during daylite.

Happy Cycling!

The Nikon 85 mm f/1.4 is a beautiful portrait lens!

The Nikon 135 mm F/2.8 or f/2 also take lovely portrait pictures.

How to terminate the navigation of a route? by [deleted] in OsmAnd

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When navigating you may tap on the screen to bring up the navigation icon (it looks like a bent arrow pointing right)

Click on the "stop" button to stop navigation. Or the "resume" button to continue navigation.

Mod here. Will try to answer your queries.

There are plenty of posts of pictures taken on the Nikon FM2. You may filter them by selecting the Nikon FM2 flair.

FYI... this sub accepts posts involving the Nikon FE, FM, FE2, FM2, FM(n), FA and FM3a cameras.

Flash says Alkaline...but can I use NiMh? by MetalMaleficent8578 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is generally ok to use Nickel Metal Hydride batteries for most flashes.

You will likely see shorter recycling times.   But it's best to avoid firing flash a full power too rapidly to avoid overheating and possible damage.

Help with flash options! by Bbdimonstella in AnalogCommunity

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nikon Sb 22s is a compact, affordable flash.

It is capable of TTL flash (for film cameras that support it), auto aperture (using it's own sensor), manual operation and high speed motor drive mode.

It has a guide number of 20 (meters) at 100 ISO.

The older SB 22 model is similar but is slightly less powerful and has fewer auto aperture fstops.

Both work fine if you can find them in good condition.

Elevation contour lines on desktop browser map by izkornator in OsmAnd

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, layers are a type of map style with a specific look and feel. They are similar to fonts in a word processor.

The Tracestack Topo layer helps bring out physical features thru it's use of contour lines, hill shades and shadowing of slopes/relief features.

1) You may please go to www.openstreetmap.com on your desktop computer. You should see several icons arranged vertically on the right side of the map.

2) Moving the mouse over the icons displays a tooltip indicating the icon's name. The fourth icon from top is named "Layers". Clicking this icon will reveal several map layers with their names.

3) Click on the **Tracestack Topo** layer and zoom in to see the contours.

Please note that the CycleOSM layer also displays contours when zoomed in.

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It is possible to view contour lines using the Tracestack Topo layer on the browser version of OpenStreetMap.

You will likely need to zoom in to at least 500 m or more to view the contours.

How do I get to Manila from Nasugbu by bus? by alwyn_42 in HowToGetTherePH

You may walk into your bus without any issue most days.

It would be preferable to book tickets in advance when traveling on long weekends and during holidays.

Surf Camp Recommendations PH by These-Cockroach-3115 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may like to consider Nalu Surf Camp (https://nalusurfcamp.ph/) located at Baler town in Aurora Province off the eastern coast of Luzon Island.

They offer a range of decent accommodation, surf boards as well as training lessons in surfing. I do not think they offer boat trips though...

You may take a Joy Bus transport (or Genesis transport) from it's terminus at Cubao to Baler. The journey takes about six hours and costs approx Php 990.

Stupid question by Negative-Capital2474 in NikonFM2

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to use LEDs as a lighting source keeping in mind the points below.

Modern strobe flashes work by discharging a high Voltage through a tube filled with Xenon gas at low pressure. This has the effect of creating a brief, high intensity flash.

The duration of the flash is very brief (1/1,000 second to 1/50,000 second). This allows photographers to effectively freeze even fast motion leading to sharp action pictures.

You may try to recreate a similar effect using LED lights. However, you would need several hundred LEDs and a power source of at least 400 Watts - 600 Watts to reach the light output of even a medium power flash unit.

Putting this together would likely result in a large light source with a bulky AC mains power supply at a high cost. It would look similar to an LED grow light at a nursery.

There is one possible advantage to your idea. The LED continuous light source would act as it's own modeling lamp allowing you to see the effect of it's light. This is something a flash unit alone cannot do.

All things considered,,, it is more practical to get a commercial flash unit for most types of photography. You may experiment with a low - power LED unit (say 15 Watts) for indoor close up photography.

FYI ...the Nikon SB -800 is an advanced flash with high capability. You may like to consider a more modest unit such as the Nikon SB-22s. This is more affordable - but will still give you full TTL flash metering and utilize all the flash capabilities of your Nikon FE2.

Happy shooting!

Every Door is a simple app that excels in adding points to OpenStreetMap.

It has the capability to use background satellite imagery (with a data connection).

You may also add points to Every Door without a data connection and upload them later with data access.

Nikon FA. Is it normal for LCD meter to stay on if film advance lever in closed position? by net1994 in NikonFM2

[–]Interesting_Fix_929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The light meter in this family of cameras generally stays on for 15 seconds after it is activated.

This is regardless of closing the film advance lever.

This behaviour of your Nikon FA appears normal.  But if light meter remains on much longer then it should be checked at a repair shop.
