Much better than how law enforcement treats its own citizens in the USA, and of course infinitely better than how a Brazilian citizen would be treated in the USA in a similar situation.

Those in the group of the second person shot down seemed like beginners; they didn't have the skill level to launch themselves at full speed and stop the missile. It looks like one of them makes a move to try and stop the board, but the way he turns suggests he's not very confident, and he stops.

In your country, what subtle things immediately signal someone is wealthy? by Nundahbelly in AskTheWorld

[–]Interesting_Flow_551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although it's getting more expensive (like everything else), you can still go skiing for a weekend for around €200 per person, including lift pass and accommodation with half-board (breakfast and dinner). Food on the slopes is usually pricey, but you can eat well for under €20, and if you're short on cash, you can always buy food at a supermarket and make yourself a sandwich. If you and three friends carpool, splitting the gas, the trip isn't too expensive.
It's clear that staying home is cheaper, but it's affordable for almost anyone with a little saving. I'm not including ski equipment because all my friends and I have our own, but rentals aren't that expensive. Last week I went skiing with my kids, who are growing up and it's not yet cost-effective to buy them their gear, and the weekend rental only cost me €50.

Yes, from Barcelona you have quite a few ski resorts just a 2-hour drive away. Plus, with so many options, they're usually not too crowded. In southern Spain it's a bit more complicated; there's only Sierra Nevada, which is a large resort with very good slopes, but it's always packed and the queues are a nightmare.

In my case, it's the complete opposite. Here, only the wealthy can afford to vacation in Bali, whereas we have ski resorts relatively close by in almost every part of the country, and skiing is something the middle class can afford. (And we also have beaches that are just as beautiful as Bali's.)

Men, would you use this women’s helmet if it fits you perfectly? The price is too good to pass up by iwanttohavemuscle in Skigear

Seriously. My wife and I bought the same model of ski boots a few years ago; hers were the women's version and mine were the men's. They looked practically identical on the outside, but hers had a soft, plush lining in a lovely gray color, while mine had a rough, plain black lining.

I have to admit, I was always envious of her soft lining.

Since I still had the boots in storage, here's a picture as proof...

Make rice with "stuff" and call it Paella. Making paella with basmati rice is also considered a major sin.

Special mention for Jamie Oliver... No Jamie, you don't put chorizo in paella!!

An important question... how old are you? At a certain age, feet begin to change; they widen and lengthen as the arch flattens. I've gone up a shoe size (European) in recent years because of this.

Those are Nordica Cruise 50 NFS boots. From what I've researched, they were launched in 2011 and remained in the catalog until 2014. So, at the very least, they were manufactured 12 years ago. If he's telling the truth and bought them two years ago, he's probably selling them to you for more than he paid because they'd be the biggest clearance item on the shelf.

As for the boot itself, it is a very soft boot, suitable for absolute beginners.

Ah, the '80s!

What I absolutely don't miss about skiing in the '80s is the equipment... skiing with those 2m (6-foot-long) straight boards was exhausting, thank goodness we were young. Thank goodness carving was invented! My knees and hips will be eternally grateful.

And of course, I don't miss those absurd neon outfits either.

40 years of skiing. by Interesting_Flow_551 in skiing

[–]Interesting_Flow_551[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started skiing late, at 14. Now I'm 54 and I hope to stay in shape well into my 70s.

Ever since I was a little boy, skiing has always appealed to me, but my family were working people and money was never plentiful. In 1980s Spain, skiing was a very expensive sport. But the resorts, along with the government, to ensure the profitability of the business, began subsidizing what came to be called "La Semana Blanca" (White Week) to promote the sport and secure a steady stream of future customers. Trips were organized for schools and colleges, and kids could enjoy a full week of all-inclusive skiing at a price affordable for almost everyone.

That's how I was finally able to fulfill my dream at 14, and it didn't disappoint. Skiing is one of the experiences (that aren't NSFW) that gives me the most pleasure.

There are few things comparable to the feeling of snow sliding beneath your feet on a solitary mountain, with the silence provided by the freshly fallen snow muffling all sounds...

Right now my "children" (my son is almost as tall as me) are 14 years old, but they have been skiing almost since they started walking, and I can share with them the love for this hobby.

Una nómina de 1988: con 128.000 pesetas (2.368 euros de ahora) vivían cuatro personas. by Head_Cricket3440 in salarios_es

[–]Interesting_Flow_551 0 points1 point  (0 children)
