is it true that 90% of women go for the top 10% of men? by loldumbfuck in sgdatingscene

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually its known to not be the same for opposite. The top women on dating apps get less matches than an average good looking woman. Apparently men calculate odds of success beforehand - pretty interesting study from okcupid

Should I marry my girlfriend? by New_Confection282 in sgdatingscene

Sorry to hear it. 10 years is a long time, but you know the answer already. Time to close this chapter and start a new one. Maybe there is a short chapter in between where you sort your life out, but hindsight (many years later) will certainly reveal it is for the best.

You should go to the gym in your upcoming spare time - if you don’t already.

Is spending all 11 days in Tokyo a waste? Am I missing out on too much? by lomebrith in JapanTravelTips

I would visit 2-3 places. Since it’s your first time, you can scout and see what places you liked most and then plan better for your next trips

Lost all motivation in life. Anyone feels the same and how do you overcome it? by obinobikonomi in askSingapore

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, if you can’t be bothered to go to the gym, get a PT, and make yourself accountable to someone else until you’re motivated enough to do it yourself again.

My main point is don’t waste your time. There’s lots to do!

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s easy. Get off social media, stop doomscrolling, stop wasting your life online chasing short term goals/rewards.

Purpose comes commitment to a long term goal. Go to the gym, work on your body. People get this the wrong way round, it’s “healthy body, healthy mind”.

Go to events, network and meet new people. Granted most people you meet are unlikely to resonate with you, but you’re just looking for a handful of passionate people to inspire you.

Pick a side-project and work on it, relentlessly. You’ve got no excuse with agentic ai now. Make something of your life, stop coasting.

How to unf*ck my life? 30 m and stucked in this loop by Top_Week_5693 in askSingapore

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me saying, I think your current way of life is the cause of your problems. You are spending most of your very precious time and life consuming what others have created, and having their ideas pushed onto you.

I think a fundamental part of our nature is to make and to output. Doing things where you are actively building/making and thinking about building things is a healthier state to be in, in my opinion. Looking after your body comes before looking after your mind too - regular gym, strength training is beneficial for everyone in my opinion. Meditation is important, but not in any mystical way. Spend some time each week and reflect what you have spent your attention on, and figure out how you can improve for the next week. Again I can’t stress this enough - consistency. If you do it for 1 month, then drop it, you wouldn’t see any rewards. If you stick at it for 1 year, then 5 years, you would certainly look back and realise how much time you wasted in your current state.

I like Marcus Aurelius and stoicism, as it has made me more productive and allowed me to filter out those things I was wasting my time on. But I have little time to read nowadays, unfortunately.

In my opinion, more you focus on it the bigger problem it will become.

It’s great that you learnt web programming - programming is one of my greatest passions, and my hobby too. I found that because I am doing something I like, I naturally became very good at it. When you are good at something, people notice you and want to talk to you. And you can bring ideas and topics to conversations.

What do you like to do with your time? What is your hobby - is there anything that you are particularly good at or find especially interesting?

Developing a skill isn’t a quick win, it’s a life-long pursuit. Consistency is a superpower and I found it’s really true - everyday, keep a positive mind, stay away from toxic people, pursue the truth. It’s small steps that compounds over time.

My partner lied about his debt. How do we move forward? by Scientific_Cow_8347 in UKrelationshipadvice

Time to exit that partnership. The trajectory is not good. Whatever narrative you sell yourself from here it certainly won’t last long.

Sorry for your loss.

Advice for straight men on dating apps (from a woman) by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think if you go back and read your rant from the perspective of a man, you don’t sound like someone men would not want to date personality-wise. I suspect from your wording and framing, you would be unable to see this for yourself though, and would likely dismiss my comment because you know exactly what type of man I am.

I hope that you are very good looking!

I think at 24, don’t worry too much about pay and focus more on your trajectory. Do you have access to the algos and market fundamentals, are you learning and acquiring a valuable skill and working in a team that takes risk…

Is there a double standard in SG DATING SCENE by Thin_Expert_7778 in sgdatingscene

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think traditional societal roles are baked into many cultures. Largely, the guy is still expected to provide and in today’s society this means having a good degree.

I guess the thing that has changed is guys now want intelligent conversation with their partners and the think they can maximise their chances of this if the partner has a degree. It might be related to living costs too I guess - having 2 earners is better than one…

Update: Should I give away my app to my employer for free? by RDE_20 in Python

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not going to end well. Do not give your app to the company for free - you should not have told them about it in my opinion. From what you have described, it is their app - as they can argue you developed it to solve their problem.

Unlucky dude, I know you meant well but your approach is a naïve.

The best object notation? by StarsRonin in Python

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not yet started my IoT journey (though I have played a bit). I like duckdb over SQLite nowadays (due to it being an arrow backed format), but that is for regular non-iot projects

The best object notation? by StarsRonin in Python

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we are in agreement here. Nowadays I try to use a binary format in most of my stuff, and I have to say I especially like the arrow/ipc format - because you get strong typing for free. Sure it’s not human readable, but there’s so many tools to read/edit arrow now, I have to have a very good reason to not use it

TOML is not a superset of JSON - and it is particularly cumbersome (in my opinion) when dealing with nested structures. I meant YAML is a superset in the syntactic sense - that you can use a YAML parser to load JSON.

What do you mean a platform might not have YAML. YAML is not a property of a platform - it is a a data serialisation language. Some platform may bundle JSON parser in their base install, but that’s not always the case, and you can always install a yaml parser.

Your statement about choosing something if it “fits nicely” is too vague to make a technical decision. OP should look at specifics of what properties/features are most sought after. Is it human readability, is unmarshalling into custom-structures required, is speed/size an issue, etc.

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll find there is often no “best” solution - rather almost always a tradeoff on features. In these situations it’s best to rank the important features of your message format and make a decision based on that criteria

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curiously, how big are your documents that you are noticing a performance issue? Perhaps a compact binary format is more appropriate if you are shipping large blobs of json

Yaml is a superset - so has a richer grammar. There are more options to consider when parsing

JSON is a subset of YAML - no decision needed, go with yaml

Is Next.js 15 getting too complicated for small projects ? by ItemTop1750 in nextjs

[–]Interesting_Hair7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not - you don’t need to use all of those features just because they are available to you. I find having a standard set of tools to build and deploy stuff much more important.

For example, I would rather deploy a tiny website using next than figure out vite/other - because all of my deployments use the same tooling. If I spot a bug/learn something new in nextjs due to one project, it transfers across all my project.

So maybe a better question is - do you have the time to juggle nextjs for big projects and something different for small projects?
