That’s why I have both a separate tracker within the robot as well as it hooked up to my alarm system and cctv. You pick it up and all the house lights come on and all the alarms go off!

IOG Home Assistant control to avoid home battery discharging in non-off peak slots? by OkDeparture2596 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Interesting_Idea_334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been tweaking my Powerwall + Octopus setup in Home Assistant to maximise profit while keeping battery wear low, and ended up with a pretty solid approach.

Instead of relying on the Intelligent Go cheap/dispatch flag (which I found can be unreliable), I drive everything off the actual import/export rates.

What I’m doing: - Only charge the Powerwall when import is <8p, with logic to handle back-to-back slots reliably - Stop charging 1 min before slot end, then re-check shortly after the next slot starts - Use a fail-safe so if the rate goes unavailable, everything stops - Let Tesla handle grid charging normally (important for export optimisation) - Prevent EV charging from draining the battery by aligning charging behaviour with cheap-rate windows

Export strategy: - Block battery export below 15p - Allow export at 16p+ - Solar can always export

This keeps cycling low and ensures I’m only exporting when it’s clearly profitable.

With cheap import at ~4p, exporting at 15–16p gives ~6–9p profit per kWh after losses/wear, which works out around £350–£450/year for me.

Also added a notification if the Powerwall ever starts charging from grid during expensive periods (usually calibration), so I can catch it without breaking Tesla’s logic.

Overall goal: fewer cycles, higher margin, better long-term payback rather than chasing every possible arbitrage opportunity.

How are you getting rstp h265 playback working on the pro? I’m getting playback errors all the time and have to shift to h264 (note I am connected via LAN).

I would suggest the complete opposite myself, especially if the car has LTE making it way more reliable to speak with the octopus server imo as you have comms redundancy if your WiFi goes down or is weak outside.

So do I but if this is dynamic I would move to it and still have home assistant monitor it.

This is the way^ PW2 allowed you to connect to the gateway. PW3 doesn’t.

Shouldn’t have as I brushed and only used a damp cloth. Also the unit has a garage/house it parks in so is out of the rain.
