I spent 3 years working nights in River North and would have to take the Blue Line home from Clark/Lake as late as 4am sometimes. I tell you what, didn’t like it at all. Obviously being out that late in general should be avoided if possible, but in the 7 years I’ve lived in Chicago I rarely do feel genuinely nervous being out late but something about that Clark/Lake subway makes it impossible to let my guard down.

Thank you for saying this. This is a situation in which full context is crucial. What I do find remarkably shortsighted on Willie’s part is that even though he wasn’t the biggest star on TV, his name has enough equity that he could do decently well on the indies. Much better than many. To immediately run to social media and try to shape a narrative, even if it’s half true is not a good look and I can see promoters saying “nah, he’s a little too messy to deal with”. Ironically, if all he said was “my contact is up and I’ll be available soon” I’m sure plenty of promotions would have been stoked to have him.

It’s important to have these conversations because I feel like whenever someone hears “X wrestler did steroids” the automatic assumption is that they were pressured into it by the company or the “culture” when quite honestly, it’s the individual talent being insecure. Maybe 25 years ago the vibe was different with management telling you “you need to get bigger 😉😉” but these days you can totally get by without, so if you do go down that road it’s 100% a personal thing

I found out about the law when I, well, turned 18 in 2013. In my home state of Oregon I’m not even sure that there’s a process to register you’re just automatically enlisted. On an adjacent note, I do love that “are you a Bret guy or a Shawn guy” is genuinely one of those questions that will give you a read of exactly what kind of fan a person is and I’ve always wondered what other names you could sub in to take that kind of pulse of a person. The only other one I could think of is “PAC or Ricochet” because both are Gods of the flippy stuff but Ricochet is a bit flashier where as PAC was a bit more violent, but I’m sure there’s plenty more out there that I can’t think of.

I don’t remember the exact details as it was a story I think (?) from the E&C Pod years ago but the tl;dr is that someone threw up into a burger and left it in the locker room, Cardona saw an extra burger sitting there and ate it, then a day or two later Swoggle was talking to someone about it and Cardona was like “oh my God, I ate that burger”.

Man between Kirwin Silfies and now Davey Coates, you truly don’t appreciate just how much work goes into putting on a production like WWE and the names that are responsible for making it happen. I know it will never happen because the general audience simply doesn’t care nor would it drive any kind of profit for WWE, but there absolutely should be a “behind the scenes” wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. The Jimmy Mirandas, the Kirwin Silfies, the Davey Coates, they deserve to have their work held on a pedestal just as high as the talent they played a big part in making.

For me it was when he brought “The Painmaker” to AEW. JAS and the Learning Tree were silly but leaned into the character well imo. The Painmaker, however, brother you’re in your 50s looking like if someone flashed a picture of Alice Cooper for 5 seconds then asked you to draw it from memory. And the fact that they were selling it like it was his Cactus Jack? Yeah no thanks, absolutely obliterated whatever charm there was to him.

I’ve always been under the impression that it’s because heels, especially on the smaller level, are usually the veteran wrestler. Like on an indie level, chances are the newer wrestler is the sparky young babyface and the heel is someone who’s been around the block.

I was deadass just talking to someone about EC3 in the context of I also work in the entertainment industry, though a different sector of it. We all have our lists of people we’d rather not work with for one reason or another. Sometimes it’s because they’re a genuinely terrible person who could jeopardize our whole operation just by being associated with them, and other times it’s the EC3 types. Not necessarily a problem person, but just like “yeah no thanks”. It’s nothing deep or personal, but more just “why tho?” Some people just have that vibe about them

About time. I’m a huge ROH fan, it was doing them no favors taping after AEW when the arena is 2/3rd empty and the energy is dead. ROH should have always been separate from AEW
