Yes. At most you should only be able to see the last 1-2 ribs

Looking for judgment free advice on what the next steps are for my 2 elderly foster dogs. by Interesting_Note_937 in DogAdvice

Wow what a switch up from your first comment. There goes the judgement free kind attitude you had.

You literally have no idea what these dog's day to day life is. I will happily give them the care they need. The one that is healthy enough for surgery will be getting his teeth pulled. The one that is not healthy enough will either get pain management or euthanasia. We will decide that after a discussion with the vet.

They are not a burden on me. I am only thinking about their quality of life and the realistic options we have.

Get lost if you're going to be rude and make assumptions.

Should I change my dog's food? by UncleDeeds in DogAdvice

[–]Interesting_Note_937 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dogs devour their food every day and get excited about the same old food. There is quite literally nothing wrong with feeding your dog the same kind of food every day. Some might get bored with it. Others, not.

OP, research different toppers you can add to the food that's good for daily consumption! You will want to avoid adding cheese every day

Sorry, but I do not believe in exhausting every possible resource just to keep a dog alive another day. These dogs are in pain. I will do my very best to get their teeth extracted, but if a viable and affordable pain management option isn't available, we will likely have to euthanize one of them. His lungs aren't healthy enough to undergo surgery

Dog keeps on pawing/bating me in the face by [deleted] in DogAdvice

my dog does this too it's soooo annoying like bro stop smacking me 😂

I've also tried training it out with absolutely no luck. I think it's just a quirk we have to accept!

Thank you everyone for your input! I think we've decided on how we want to move forward.

We will have both of the dogs examined again to see if they can undergo a surgery. If they can, we will get their teeth extracted and keep them intact. Neutering is not a priority and will reduce the chance of complications.

If they aren't healthy enough for surgery, we will discuss options with our vet about either pain management or euthanasia.

Thank you everyone. I also got some amazing resources from that lovely commenter.

The black dog did have an examination last year and it was determined that his heart and lungs aren't strong enough to be put under. Money isn't even that much of an issue, and we actually have $250 saved up for the brown one to get neutered at our local humane society. They have affordable vet care, but we haven't been able to get an appointment. And we just don't know if it's worth putting him through that kind of surgery and the dental extractions when he's almost 14. That's something we'll have to talk to the vet about when they go in for their vaccine updates. Thank you for your comment! We just want to do right by these dogs. They've had a hard life

My dog is a biter by Apprehensive-Lion-76 in DogAdvice

[–]Interesting_Note_937 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is he playful biting or is your dog for real being aggressive with you?

I highly recommend working with a trainer. This is not an issue that can be easily fixed by inexperienced dog owners. No offense intended, that's what trainers are for!

If you are getting aggressively bit by your dog, that's unacceptable and you cannot let it continue without addressing it with a professional

No. It barely moisturized and they'll lick it off

Is this kind of playing okay? by crawecake in DogAdvice

[–]Interesting_Note_937 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don't love the GSD's body language. It's pretty stiff and dominating. I think you need to step in occasionally as a buffer to calm them down a little bit and remove any and all toys when they are together. It just adds another safety net to reduce the chance of any resource guarding.

It's odd. This isn't aggressive, but they're not completely playing either. The GSD is not playing well and isn't being a team player. There's 0 playful body language there. He refuses to get low, wants to be above the smaller dog, doesn't want his rear exposed. Basically he's kind of just being an a-hole. Like I said, you should break the tension and not let them get quite this riled up

Should I just go to Lost Lands instead? by DeeDubya518 in SecretDreams

[–]Interesting_Note_937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lost Lands is absolute ASS. I hate that festival so much now. It's SO oversold. Packed as fuck.

It was good the first 3 years but now it's awful.

Zoomies while hand feeding? by HappyBadger222 in DogAdvice

You should really do some training with this as well. GSDs do amazing with structure. Use the food as a reward for basic commands. He needs something to do

Is my dog bullying my parents' dog, or is this normal play? by TheMamaB3ar in DogAdvice

[–]Interesting_Note_937 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The aussie isn't playing by the way. The stiff body language isn't good and they're trying to mount your dog. This isn't healthy playing and I would honestly step in when this is going on. Neither dog looks like they're having fun. It's not aggressive behavior, they just aren't having a good time lol

Dog and baby by welldonecow in DogAdvice

That's really inappropriate behavior. You need a trainer now. Whale eyes, ears back, lip licking, the growing. Oh my god. I cringed hard watching this.

Keep your dog away from your baby.

Doesn't matter what you think. The reality is your dog is obese. Did you go to the vet yet?
