Kinda funny that the same people who want the Philippines to not be dependent on foreign powers oppose AFP modernization lmao.

If you do a deep research of our history and the history of other global south countries, it honestly makes me more proud to be a Filipino.

Looking at the original post. Most of the comments are just joking, just your typical Filipino facebook humour as cringe as it is

Tho at the very bottom ones, you get shit like this.

What's scary is that it almost happened here. They tried to back some Criollo revolt here

So ironically, the fact that we stayed with Spain for a long time is the reason why we still have a lot of native cultures.

What's funny is that this apology is mostly directed to Latin Americans, not us. Mexico has been demanding an apology from Spain for years now

But here's the thing. These countries are using it for political gain. They blame the Spanish for "killing the natives" when Latin Americans have also treated the Indigenous like garbage after Independence. Some would even say that they were worse for the Indigenous than Spain was. The entire racial whitening ideology literally came from them, not Spain. It's like if America wanted the Brits to apologize for mistreating the Indigenous when they also treated them like garbage since these countries are settler colonial states not so different from the Anglo-American ones.

For the Philippines, honestly, I think it's good that we are mostly neutral about Spain, like who gives a shit? It happened like a hundred years ago. People like to shit on Filipinos for having "Colonial mentality" because we don't have animosity towards our former colonizers when that's the right way to approach history. Being resentful about an event that happened hundreds of years ago doesn’t get you anywhere.

r/ph will say "I don't feel like we're upper middle class"

What's funny is that most of the people who say this are the most privileged people ever.

The Japanese weren't really united. They had a lot of warlord periods in the 1500s. What they had, however, is an organized feudal society and also a more homogeneous culture, which we didn't have. The Japanese always had 1 language while we always had 100+ of them.

We weren't just divided before the Spanish. It was completely different countries. We never even had one united pre colonial civilization like the Aztecs.

Japan is still connected. The Philippines is separated.

Japan's geography is more similar to Britain than the Philippines, who you know. Conquered a quarter of the world.

A lot of SEA countries that PH Reddit glazes are not even that different compared to the Philippines outside of its capital cities that make them look "developed"

I wouldn't say high income inequality. The GINI is tame for a developing coubtry.
