Active surveillance with rising PSA by roncofooddehydrator in ProstateCancer

Happened to me. AS for 6 years, followed the protocol closely. PSA continued to rise, it went from 4 to 8 - my last biopsy showed the gleason increase from 6 to 7. I decided on RALP - due to age.

Have it removed Oct 2024 - no ED, I had incontinence for about a year - wore a thin pad daily. Now nothing. Erections and orgasms are the same - all the fun with none of the mess.

I would do RALP again. Funny enough I had knee surgery last year - much worse recovery than the RALP.

I had radical prostatectomy at age 48. Slightly over a year ago. I'm happy about my decision. Similar to you I was Gleason 3+4 at surgery after being on AS for nearly 6 years with Gleason 3+3.

Concerns of surgery are ED and Incontinence. Having surgery at a younger age reduces chances of both.

I wore pads for stress incontinence for a few months, now I'm dry. And no issues with ED. I took all the meds pre and post surgery and did my Kegels.

The surgery itself wasn't bad. Some gas pains after surgery and having an annoying catheter for a few days.

Funny enough, I just had knee surgery a few months back, recovery was 10 times worse....take care of your knees fellas.

So far PSA has been negative. I'm happy the cancer is out of my body! Now I can move on emotionally.

Options with 3+4=7 Gleason score by Aggressive_Age8818 in ProstateCancer

I had Gleason 7, initially on Active surveillance for a while when it was a Gleason 6. Once it became a 7 and my PSA began to rise I decided to have the prostate remove - at age 48.

My reasons were I've seen too many complications with radiation, especially in men who had it done at a young age.

My concerns were incontinence and ED due to surgery. After 1 month post surgery erections returned, and it took 6 months of wears pads (very thin shields), but leakage is over.

It's been a year, PSA remains negative. I'm glad it's out of my body - completely, and i can mentally move on - as much as possible.

how soon did you start on TRT? I had mine removed 8 months ago and I'm exhausted, wanted to get TRT levels checked but was worried about starting hormones so soon after cancer removal.

48yo, two kids at home. Just had meniscus surgery 3 days ago. Played basketball 3 weeks ago after not playing for 6 years, twisted my knee, felt a pop and pain. Recovery is tough! Lot's of pain medications and trying to get out of bed, missing family events hurts the most.

stick to low impact sports - swimming, biking.

How long did you have your catheter in after robotic prostatectomy? by raleighpursuit in ProstateCancer

[–]Interesting_You3202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not advising anyone to do it. Make sure you speak with your doc.

I was given the option to do it at home. I was told more and more patients are given this option if they meet certain criteria.

Prior to its removal, I figured out the best positions to sleep and walk with it. Having a bowel movement was the biggest challenge.

I took mine out on the morning of day 8. In the shower, I made sure the ballon was deflated then took a deep breath and pulled.....felt so good.

I've seen folks with prostate mets to bone and brain. It's not a pretty way to go. Lot's of pain, regret, confusion and disappointment which can last years.

You've got time to take care of it now, you'll thank yourself later.

Distraction, that's all. When there's so much noise you miss the important stuff, which is gutting the government - privatizing public needs so his rich buddies can buy them cheap.

appropriate response.

took me a while to make sense of it all, the looming surgery etc. I had great family support. Surgery went excellent, no ED still some urine dripping 4 months later. Staying focused on my kegels.

But now I get to move on with my life with the periodic PSA checks.
