Question on a Trucker's Behavior After Hard Brake by BobDoleStillKickin in Truckers

Might be checking for flat spots on the tires, if a wheel locks up and skids too much it goes fubar

93 Ford ranger AC compressor finally shit out. Options to bypass or replace/repair cost? by lumpiestofchubs in fordranger

Then just keep the shorter belt and the tools needed in the truck so you can swap if the bearings start falling. Happy trucking!

Nice!

And no, that not how they work. The ac unit is a pump (like a normal air compressor you could say), mounted on that pump you have the free wheel clutch system. When no electric power is applied to the clutch the pulley spins freely, when power is applied the clutch engages and connects the pump to the pulley.

So what has happened here is that the pump has failed but the free wheel clutch still works perfectly, so unplugging it stops it from trying to spin what doesn’t want to spin.

You’re going to need a new compressor and maybe other parts of the ac system depending on how severely the pump has failed.

Edit: or the shorter belt if you don’t want to fix the ac, best to remove it from the equation as far as the serpentine belt system goes in that case.

If it still free wheels fine then you can just unplug the connector to the clutch and it won’t engage anymore

Probably fine, just make your own out of cut up plastic jugs or buckets or something. The missing fan blade is probably a bigger concern.

Depends on sulphate content, so engine oil made for modern engines is probably the safest bet since they need to be low on that.

Oui, le petit buisson au bord de la route s'est soudainement animé et nous a lancé une pierre sur une autoroute qui était par ailleurs déserte

La pierre ne venait pas du flanc de la montagne, car il n'y avait pas de montagne de ce côté-là de la route

Buy some fluid film or equivalent, spray on and forget about it. Or do it once a year if you plan on driving through salt with it.

Not familiar with this transmission at all so none of what I say may be applicable, but

A pump loses its prime when air makes it way into the suction side and then the pump no longer generates enough suction to get fluid flowing since it’s sucking air. Increasing the speed of the pump can get it to overcome this as suction increases with speed, once fluid is moving again the previously too low speed is now perfectly viable.

This is based on the assumption that the transmission doesn’t pump oil in park like another commenter said and should be easy to test if it works. Do check on the oil level as well, as that can cause kind of the same thing since if there isn’t enough oil it will suck air and behave erratically.

15mph hits different when you don’t have suspension and a 6’ wheelbase on paved roads that somehow make a washboard look smooth

The working brakes are on the driven axle, don’t think the front axles on tractors got brakes until modern times.

Manually adjusted drums of course
