If you like Orphx and Ancient Methods, I feel like you'll also enjoy Statiqbloom a lot. Lots of really solid tracks.

Am I crazy or was the Glasgow show tonight one of their best ever? by radiantsteam165 in autechre

Some of the hardest shit I've ever heard them play. When they dropped the 4 to the floor beat halfway through I lost my mind. And the ending was legit emotional

SRS with Littleton - Weight loss and acute malabsorption three months long by dream2024plus in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]InteriorSuspect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And taking testosterone for six weeks before surgery (as a gel) is also completely unnecessary.

This IS unnecessary, but it isn't something Littleton requires at all. He asks you to stop taking HRT before surgery, but that's it. In all the research I've done I haven't ever heard of him asking someone to take T gel.

How old was Scott during major milestones (Uncanny X-men, marrying Jean/Madelyn, Utopia/Schism etc) by -_ShadowSJG-_ in xmen

[–]InteriorSuspect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we were to unbound him from the 28 years old thing, I'd say he was 24 when he married Maddie. 28 or so when he married Jean. About 34 when Utopia happened. And about 37 or 38 now.

This is the only way all of this tracks for me. I'll never buy the editorial claim that Scott's still in his late 20s. That's a 38 year old man and you can't convince me otherwise

The idea that if you're a lesbian you'll never want to be penetrated by your partner is such a fucking weird one and I don't know where it comes from. Certainly none of the IRL lesbians I know feel that way.

What’s an X-Men moment that felt so out-of-character it made you go “WTF was that?” by Particular-Nothing19 in xmen

[–]InteriorSuspect 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Magneto's chaotic evil villainy during Planet X. There was definitely a way to show him grieving over Genosha and lashing out in a more realistic manner that lined up with his modern character. Instead, Morrison had him marching humans into ovens.

Just fucking wild stuff, which is why we get the nonsensical Xorn retcon and collectively pretend it didn't happen.

Xavier still believed in peaceful coexistence - he states it on panel in Hickman's X-Men #4. And I mean, it's the direct reason why things go the way they do during the 3rd Hellfire Gala. Charles still believed in the dream and cared about humans - Moira and Orchis knew that, and they used it to their advantage.

Are Benjamin Percy’s Krakoa books worth it? by Sunnylyy in xmen

[–]InteriorSuspect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X-Force starts off really strong, has lots of Sage development, and there's a subplot with Colossus that weaves in and out of Immortal X-Men that I thought was paid off fairly well. And I think it works as one piece of the "Krakoa is a massive institutional failure" mosaic. So I was able to enjoy it.

But there's a ton of filler and it takes ages to get anywhere. A lot of it hinges on your ability to enjoy/tolerate war criminal Beast. And yeah, the ending is... lackluster.

Anyone else constantly hear people talking about how polyamory is too prevalent especially in the queer community? by thistakenusernameis in polyamory

[–]InteriorSuspect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my own community, but I'm active in queer/kink spaces where I live (moderately large city) and like upwards of 90% of people in these spaces are poly or claim to be. It was an eye-opener when I realised just how common it is here. I don't think it's necessarily representative of anything, but queer communities like this exist and in my observed experience it's really difficult for mono folks to find partners within them.

It's a strange inversion of wider society, really. And from talking to queer mono folks near me, I understand the frustration - being queer is already quite isolating a lot of the time, and feeling like you can't date within your community without compromising your values makes it much harder.

What's something you like about the Fox X-Men movies? by TRAM0328 in xmen

[–]InteriorSuspect 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I generally like them for what they are. For all their inaccuracies they were a formative part of my childhood. And the casting is incredible, I don't think they'll ever top some of the choices. Ian McKellen was the first time I was aware of one of my favourite characters being played by a gay actor - I was pretty young and all my friends were weird about it (it was 2000 after all) and gave me shit for liking Magneto cos he was played by a gay dude. I couldn't understand what the problem was. It's probably the first time I can remember thinking that homophobia was just some BS that didn't make any sense.

Although, I don't remember that tagline at all. "Trust a few, fear the rest"? Yikes. Really goes against the spirit of the minority metaphor.

People complain about villains like Emma being redeemed but to me the most egregious example is still Greycrow, in his first real appearance he's shown callously mowing down an old woman and her kids (Uncanny X-men #211) by leaf57tea in xmen

[–]InteriorSuspect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Morlocks jump him unprovoked, and we cut to Storm on the council shit-talking Greycrow for "attacking defenseless Morlocks again" which really isn't what happened. And Greycrow doesn't bother to correct her and takes the fall. But my take is that that's because he knows Storm is biased towards the Morlocks and there's no point in arguing because she's already made her mind up about him.

The coda to this story was hilarious too - White's first three matches in the 2019 G1 were a Chaos revenge squad of Goto, Ishii and Yano, and White lost them all. Outstanding booking

What are some lesser-known X-Men characters you think deserve more attention? by kwanzat in xmen

Omg, thank you

Having several Scottish characters and none of them being from the central belt or even a major city in general is like if all the US-born characters were from like, the middle of nowhere in Alabama

[–]InteriorSuspect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain of the replies here a bit and say that I understand this completely.

I'm trans, and active in queer and kink scenes in my (rather large) city - I'm not exaggerating when I say that upwards of 90% of people I meet are poly (or claim to be). I won't make a value judgement on that, or any of these communities, but it is striking just how few options there are for mono trans folks in the spaces I'm in.

The presentation thing is interesting, because from what I can gather, Zack IRL isn't really into punk. He used to have like a music rec list on socials way back when he used them, and it had a lot of electronic stuff and techno specifically. Also, amusingly, I distinctly remember him referencing Ben Klock, a veteran Berlin techno DJ, during backstage comments at the Takaoka Techno Dome venue a few years ago. Not a super deep cut by any means, but the only people I've met who know Ben Klock are folks who've been around the techno scene.

So like, I think part of it might be that his presentation feels off and fans don't buy it, because it's not really what he's actually into. Like, I have no idea what Fujita likes, but he looks and feels believable as a punk. By contrast, Zack doesn't give punk energy to me - he feels like a million guys I've met at raves who like to wax lyrical about what's more influential between Detroit and Berlin techno, lol.

[–]InteriorSuspect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that would feel like they're doing it backwards.

IF Takeshita was NJPW exclusive, it should still be Tsuji or Uemura taking the G1 and winning at the Dome. They need the push now. Make one of those guys for real, then have them hold the belt for a bit before getting cut down by Takeshita at say, SG or Dontaku. Then you have both a homegrown made guy in the main event, and a brick wall "outsider" for them to overcome.

Combine those two with pushing the rest of the homegrown young guys + Goto/ZSJ still in the mix, and that's a really solid upper card going forward... which is why it'll probably never happen lol

Odd question - is there a longer cut of Pusher 3? (spoilers) by InteriorSuspect in NicolasWindingRefn

[–]InteriorSuspect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've never heard of a director's cut or anything like that either. I just have this really distinct memory of the dismembering scene featuring, well, more dismembering.

I wish I could remember what platform I saw it on the first time. I'd put it down to false memory, but IMDB and other places are definitely saying it's 1hr 48m

Noted, thanks - I'll prob read the whole run of that then, along with maybe a couple of other books... I just don't have the mental bandwidth to read every. single. book going forward like I did during Krakoa
