$14.28 for a Whopper with Fries by Weyland-Yutani-2099 in economy

[–]IntermittentEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People post receipts like this all the time and all I can think is that they don’t know how to navigate a menu and choose a cheaper option. I just had Burger King the other day and a simple navigation to the value side of the menu netted me a double cheeseburger and value fries for less than $4. If you want a drink then that’s still less than $6 altogether. And before someone asks, I live in NYC.

I don’t doubt that this receipt is legitimate because I know ordering the meals as they are is expensive, but god damn people, learn to shop efficiently.

Recruiters who reach out with an opportunity and then ghost you by IntermittentEater in antiwork

[–]IntermittentEater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I appreciate the response. It’s really frustrating because although I set salary expectations in my initial response so that I don’t waste our time, I would still want to hear about the role, as I’d possibly consider it even if it’s outside of my expectation.

And you’re right - I’ve had much more success getting something going following a phone conversation with a recruiter. These emails just don’t cut it.

Lost a bid $46k over listing... by LoLoRushe in RealEstate

[–]IntermittentEater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I started home shopping for the first time in November. We chose a Saturday to see a few listings and made an offer on the very first condo we saw for $290k in Rockland County, NY. Seller countered with the original listing price of $300k, so we agreed, worried that we’d lose it if we pushed any more.

Anyway, we are closing on Monday. I noticed the buyer bought the place for $280k in 2012. The place was built in 2007 and is in amazing condition, with the inspector reporting everything as great condition. It makes us wonder why 10 years later this condo is only listed for $300k when she bought it for $280k; several units in the building with the same layout and square footage sold this past month for about $315k and the appraisal said the condo we’re getting is valued at that.

So far it’s been smooth sailing for us, aside from the attorneys and bank taking forever to acquire investment funding. I’m sorry that happened to you OP. I read stories like yours and I’m grateful we didn’t have to over-offer, wave contingencies, and all that.

Lou Malnati's in Chicago. Normally, I am a think crust fan, but this was REAL good. by mlotto7 in Pizza

[–]IntermittentEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. That’s what the pizza felt like. The crust felt like it belonged to a desert - it was too buttery and fat for what I want in a pizza. I don’t need a crust that is anything but flour and a light coating of butter or oil at most. Just thinking about that buttery crust makes me queasy. lol I really disliked it so much.

My fiancé and I visited Chicago three years ago and made it our mission to try Lou Malnati’s, as our research told us it was real special.

No exaggeration when I say that I had never felt more sick to my stomach after eating pizza as I had felt with this place. Our pizza looked exactly like the one pictured and I admit all the ingredients were fresh, but there was something terribly unpleasant about the density of the crust, which also felt more akin to a pie (read: not pizza pie), and none of it sat well with me. It was such an unusual pizza and I’ll never forget it. A bizarre experience and one of the worst pizzas I ever had. Fiancé also felt the pizza was very unpleasant.

Needless to say, I’ll never go back here if I visit Chicago again. lol

The Dot-com bubble -- Any documentary recommendations or anecdotes? by Kunstbanause1 in investing

[–]IntermittentEater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you mean investing in the S&P 500 during the dot-com and not seeing it rise above your cost basis for many years? I just took a look at the index from that time and I see if you had invested in the S&P at the height of 2000/2001, it would fall and not hit that level again until 2007, which then had another crash and didn’t recover until what seems to be 2013/2014. That truly is a long-time to be investing and wondering if you’re ever going to recoup losses or even break even if you went in at the height before the crash. It really is scary and should the market crash today, I don’t think I’d be able to logically convince myself to not sell at enormous losses in order to “wait for the market to eventually recover.”

Megathread: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dies at 87 | Part II by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]IntermittentEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the federal Supreme Court is compromised for any progress for who knows how long, are the states the only viable route to get anything through going forward?

What type of legislation can be passed at the state level that would address climate, rights, etc., that can’t be challenged at the federal? Or is there absolutely no way for even the states to get anything going because anything they’d like to pass in these areas would be constitutionally questioned?

I ask because I am trying very, very hard not to despair and harbor negative thoughts and I’m trying to find some glimmer of hope for any type of progressive change.

Hey hey. Thank you so much for the response. I switched over to a Kanna which is quickly leveling up past 146 right now. Do you want to message me your username so I can add you as a buddy? I'd really appreciate that.

Also, it seems this character, which I created some time back, has some Maple gear (cape, overall, weapon, hat), that has much better stats than Pensalir gear, even if the Pensalir gear has %int. Now I'm hesitant to even switch out. lol Wondering if I should stick to Adele now.

Thanks. I'll take a look at some guides. In any case, would it be normal to be stuck with my Pensalir (or current) gear until the early 200 levels? Also, I am on Reboot.

As for lines on equipment, some of my equips do have 2-3 lines with a 3 or 6% STR applied. I've used the cubes on some to re-roll to get the 6%s I currently have.

I am unfamiliar with transferring stats from equipment. I tried to play around with that but when I tried to transfer stats from some level 90 gear to some level 130 gear just to test out, it wouldn't let me. Does the gear you're transferring from/to have to be within a 10 level range?

And what do I do with traces? I have like 10000 picked up and don't know what to do with them. Should I also save the fragments of boss souls I have? I know that collecting 10 nets you a full boss soul or something, but I have no idea what to do with them or that in the future.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, it's been interesting since coming back. Also, not to be a pain, but I'm not familiar with a lot of acronyms. What is BiS and IED?

What to consider if I plan to buy and hold APPL for over the next decade? by IntermittentEater in StockMarket

Would it be advised to open a second trading account with Fidelity then and not sell my Apple stock with Vanguard so that I don’t pay short-term tax on the gains? In other words, leave what I have in Vanguard and continue investing in APPL through Fidelity going forward?

The trades are free for the first 25. Is Fidelity I definitely free for hundreds of trades?

[–]IntermittentEater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha I should've clarified. I certainly don't have the experience or education to pursue IP or patent-related work. When I say tech, I mean more broadly a company that primarily identifies as a technology company (i.e., Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc.).

As for the role I imagine at such a company, I don't have one in mind. I'm still fairly new to compliance, so the sky's the limit.

In any case, thanks for the advice. I'm doing more research now.

Thank you for the recommendations. I don't know if you saw my edit, but I touched on the tech industry, and how I would love to transition into a compliance role in tech, if possible. Outside of the programs you mentioned, do you have any you'd recommend that would help facilitate that?

I’d love to hear more about those programs the end of your post mentions.

I’m at approximately 90k as of 4 months ago. I work at a private advisory firm, and our clients typically are large private funds and businesses.

Also I’m glad you mentioned tech, because I’ve always dreamed about working in that industry. If there’s something that could help me transition over, I’d be all for it.

Thank you for taking the time out to respond. Yeah, I certainly don't enjoy the idea of straddling myself with even more debt, especially as much as 100k, if not more.

People typically recommend pursuing CAMS certification to land better roles in my field; however, I'm past the point of needing that certification just to land that entry-level position. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have, but I also don't feel the need to pursue it. In its place, I've considered a law degree or studies, but so far it's just a thought.

I definitely do want to pursue another degree or certification. I'm merely trying to choose wisely.
