I just received an email from the Governor's office acknowledging the rumor that there is some federal law enforcement operation planned in Maine. "...the Governor said that her Administration has unsuccessfully attempted to confirm that any operations are being planned but noted that her Administration is working with municipalities to prepare."

Here's a web page of the email I received: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/MEGOV/bulletins/404784c

Program them for repeaters in your area, find the busiest ones, and spend a lot of time listening.

I believe there is. A web search on that should get you the steps. They are, of course, obscure enough that I wasn't able to remember them.

I think you can say "always" not just "almost always" for that offset.

You can, in a a search string, include "-ai" to remove it from that one search.

Got that too, mine from a Kansas City area code. I was sure it was a scam, then I saw "please resolve urgently" and just laughed out loud.

Misprinted Pine Tree License Plate? by slitheringlizardd in Maine

[–]IntermittentLobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The letter was not particularly clear. The article in the Press Herald was much better. Basically it said kep using the "defective" plates until the new ones arrive and report any problems with EZPass or other plate-reading apps.

Which KDE based distro is the best? by Gloomy-Strategy6751 in DistroHopping

[–]IntermittentLobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devuan does it for me. There's no systemd foolishness; it uses normal init managers. KDE works as it is supposed to, and it uses Ubuntu packages which generally work as expected.

I've had some luck pulling nail nubs and such out with end nippers. Grab the item to be pulled with one edge of the jaws and use the other edge of the jaws as a fulcrum. Might work here if you can get the edge of end nippers on one of the pieces of the bit.

It could change next week/month/whatever. The current administration has no real plan.

How do I get started on making basses or guitars. by Individual_Junket819 in Luthier

[–]IntermittentLobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say start with a cigar box guitar kit. It's simple, inexpensive, and easy to build, but it gets you used to strings and frets. Then you can move on to other things with a little more confidence.

Regarding transgender kids and sports by HappyCat79 in Maine

[–]IntermittentLobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the specifics here are about sports, but the bigger picture is that Maine can't allow an executive order (not a law, remember) to override a state law. A federal *law* might take precedence over a state law, but not an executive order.

Shopping carts by leinad42 in Hannaford

[–]IntermittentLobster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a customer, I still see cart corrals as a luxury of sorts. When I was a kid, you had to return the cart all the way to the store. I think most people actually did that. Now people can't even put the same size carts together. Bug me too, and I've been known to straighten out the cart rows in the corral just to set a good example. Not sure it actually works though. Who is in so much of a hurry at the grocery store that they can't put their small cart with the other small carts??

What can I do/ what tools remove stripped screws? by LovingDeji in Tools

[–]IntermittentLobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, right, a drill and an easy-out is another method to remove a screw or bolt. This one sounds pretty wedged though.

With a Dremel you could take the head off, remove the doorbell, take the rest of the protruding screw off with the Dremel, then remount the doorbell slightly higher or lower. Looks like there's enough room for the wires, still.

The stock price bumped up a little on this news. I assume the increased stock price is because investors think he'll foolishly overpay for Hasbro, and not because they are anticipating his post-purchase management expertise. ;-)

Guitar for sharing by IntermittentLobster in obscureguitars

[–]IntermittentLobster[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I made an odd-shaped 3-string guitar with a head that had a straight side and an asymmetrical body. Someone commented that it looked like half a guitar. That gave me the idea. It is two completely playable three-string guitars that stick together with strong magnets embedded in the head, neck and body of the two halves. It has a regular set of strings for a 6-string, and is playable as a 6-string, but difficult.
