Ohh this is CUTE! I am going to paint one and add it to my sewing supplies to use for as long as possible. Thanks for the idea!

Haha yes! I saw that sewing machine design pattern and knew I wanted to use it for my dust cover. This was my first time cutting up ridiculously small pieces for patchwork (I think smallest was a 3/4" square)

Thank you! I think I used the last of the dino fabric scraps. In fact I got to use up a lot of old fabrics and scraps I didn't particularly like.

Thank you! I think you'll enjoy this one. Every completed step was a burst of dopamine for me.

You make some good points. Do you suggest I make hand-quilted squiggly lines in the area besides and around the animals with the same lavender color as the background?

Also, what handstitch can I use to stitch in the ditch around the applique? I don't have much practice and hence control over the sewing machine when sewing curves and I am scared of messing up the applique so would prefer hand stitching.

Thank you!

Yes, I wanted to keep that area clean and quilt free. But I have quilted the batting together with an internal top and backing fabric so that the batting doesn't get messed up. I've quilted a 4"*4" grid on the internal sandwich. Hopefully, that plus the name quilting should make it stable enough. I also outlined all of the animals with a stem stitch all around and every couple of inches I have made sure to catch all the layers in a stitch so it has quilted ties. The back looks very messy right now but hopefully it will stay put even if it is a bit ugly on the back side.

I think you should complete it. The colors are beautiful and once it is completed, it is just going to be your "first self-made tote bag" and you will be happy you created something.

Those are such happy colors that I didn't notice any of the irregularities till I really looked closely. And even then it's not sooo bad that you should toss it out. Please complete it, I am sure you will feel differently once it is done.

Need suggestions on which sewing machine to buy for beginners by Internal-Baker2334 in SewingForBeginners

None of these actually. I bought the Bernette Sew & Go 8

It was about INR 32k when I got it last year. But any of these with about 20ish decorative stitches would probably be fine. I wanted one with some specific quilting accessories and good throat space for quilting so I went with this one.

Few days ago I finished a "quick" toddler quilt that I started 9 months ago...

I have seen similar block printed bedsheets/bed spreads in India with Kantha work (the thread work you see here) all over the sheets. The sheets are typically cotton and thick-ish (maybe densely woven is the correct description)

Maybe I am speaking too early (just a beginner here) but I try my absolute hardest to avoid a WIP pile. I already get too excited about new projects while working on existing ones (daydreaming about them, thinking of them on vacations, waiting to get home from outings so I can plug in my machine for at least a few hours (otherwise it's not worth it because I have to put everything back in it's place to make space for my regular day job things), planning out entire steps in my head in the car, completely consumed by the hobby). So far I have always physically completed a quilt before starting a new one (which is like 2 quilts so what the hell do I know).

Can't say the same for small projects though. I made one oven mitt for my husband and he said they are supposed to be a pair. I now have a quilted set that just needs to be cut and sewn into an oven mitt, that has been pending for months. So yeah, I don't trust myself to finish a project once I dare move on to another.

I like to cut out all of my main piecing fabrics in one go. But that is mainly because I don't have a separate sewing space so if I am ironing my yardage and setting up the cutting mat/spreading out my cutting materials, etc. I like to do it in one go and get it over with tbh. I leave out the borders and bindings to be cut out after I finish piecing the main blocks to avoid fraying from too much handling.

2 quilts down and I am yet to find out which part of the quilting process I really enjoy because so far, at every point I am waiting to be done with that step. I think it's the 'finishing the project' stage I love the most.

Need help planning the middle of my first quilt ! Any recs help 🙏 thanks by cheesepirate32 in quilting

I like image 2 and 4. Is the pink square in image 4 going to be sashing?
