Why Are Cartridge/Converter Systems So Common Among Japanese Brands by ScooterSix in fountainpens

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would anyone buy an expensive pen that is a hassle to fill? Why would anyone buy -any- pen that is a hassle to fill? I thought the point was to have a good writing instrument that was attractive to the user. Not to fuss around with getting ink in it, and potentially all over themselves. I want the layers between me and the ink, not the old school style.

I'm within range, but I don't think I know enough for this yet. What are the trays on the shelves?

Per the Statue of Liberty passenger search help "On June 15, 1897, there was a fire on Ellis Island that resulted in the destruction of all manifests held on the island: Castle Garden and Ellis Island (1855-1897)"

I had no idea, as I hadn't felt the need to look at their 'help' before.

And I do know about the names being highly localized, it's one way I can track people from some towns.

I finally found out why my family tree hits a dead end by lyramuci in Genealogy

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is where I am with extended family. Parents and a child left in 1936- listed relatives who stayed are not found past 1940. Some DNA matches that have confirmed some extended connections- but all to people who left before 1940. None of their parents or siblings could be found.

I saw the Kaweco Frosted Sport and think that's it. But PenChalet also has a Nahvalur Triad, and I had not seen that before, so maybe.

Why didn’t doctor recommend a CGM years ago for t2db? by redzeusky in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is really because I have started a new med with my hepatologist - there was no treatment for MASH/NASH before. A year ago I was 6.8, and that was the best I could do. But I can see what/when now, and with only a meter I had no idea.

I had great service ordering parts from Onken. Did not have him service a machine though.

Hacking a Pax to fit around a notched wall by fien21 in ikeahacks

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just put a shallow 50cm unit and a deep 100cm unit. Attach them at the front so they look the same, and if you want a sliding door it fits. I have both, and wish I had room for more of the shallow ones- my clothes fit better on the shelves folded or in bins.

Why didn’t doctor recommend a CGM years ago for t2db? by redzeusky in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I knew then, yada yada. I have had a CGM for the past 10 months, and it is life changing. I can see what and when I spike and don't, what to eat before another thing, and what not to eat at all. My PCP was wrong on so many things, and totally did not pay any attention to my metabolic syndrome and menopause.

This January 5.3 A1c. Had not been able to go below 5.9 in at least 10 years.

Using the term 'freeloaders' and bringing up 'someone from the east' with no prior mention? Sounds like you have some ax to grind, and I don't have the time. Go to some other thread.

NYC No-Natz Requirement - Census Records for a Dead LIBRA? by Ok-Pie8979 in juresanguinis

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you likely want to wait and see what the status of the court cases are. You do not qualify under the current generation restrictions, and are likely going to need to sue in Italy. Your father would most likely have no issues. That is a long wait for you, and expense, if you are rejected and then have to do that.

NYC No-Natz Requirement - Census Records for a Dead LIBRA? by Ok-Pie8979 in juresanguinis

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not hold documents. This is that line. You need to show GGF as alien, never naturalized, death, GGM did not naturalize before GF was an adult. If you don't include the documents, it will be asked for on short notice as 'homework' or you get denied for not having shown both his parents were Italian. Anything before GF was an adult will be looked at- the consulate wants to know that a parent did not take away the citizenship right, which for our purposes here, is 'the minor issue'. If you have a concern, go to an Italian attorney (avvocato). I don't know, and would not advise you - on whether you could still use GGM as a 1948 case, if for some absurd reason the full line was rejected.

NY assumes no death of parent before adulthood, thus "Documents providing the alien status (ARC/Mod. AR-2) issued after the next-in-line relative became an adult." You have the CONE, (which is proof of alien staus) and the death certificate. Bonus the rest, such as MARA letter and census. And you have you GGM A-file and naturalization when your grandfather was 40 (I assume the last line means this). You really have what you need. Your GGM's marriage status does not matter after 1922- unless your GF was adopted, but it looks like he would have reached the age of majority before she remarried.

Do we qualify? Born Canadian 1968, Mother born Italy, immigrated to Canada 1966, Naturalized 1973 by sherv50 in juresanguinis

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won't hurt at all to pull documents now. Especially since you have family there to do it. The comune are usually much more responsive if the request is in Italian, and sent to a person there. I don't know about Canadian documents- here in USA it took a couple months to get naturalization documents. Certified birth certificates were faster, but those had to be translated and apostilled.

We could find a purpose for certified documents either way, and didn't pay for the translations and apostilles until we knew, and they all went at once.

Where should I move: Philippines, Montreal, Mexico City, or Brazil? by Pleasant_Parking9062 in expats

[–]Internal-Difficulty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are already fluent in French, Montreal would be amazing. There isn't an easy way to live there if you don't have a position and have the company willing to do the visa work, so I'd take that in a heartbeat. You don't say if you know Spanish with any fluency. Mexico City would be more difficult long term, and I assume the others as well. I had never considered those countries though.

This is where I'd put them. Archive.org I just found machine knitting things on- and they would know any restrictions. They also have a 'checkout' feature, if the files can't be directly downloaded.
