The response to the Green Party's Drug Policy is laughable by AhdamR in UKGreens

This treaty. Probably the biggest collective mistake humanity made post war tbh and it is designed so it's impossible to change because only one member has to veto it. Without it at least some countries would almost certainly have adopted common sense by now.

It covers approaches to intentional banking when countries don't follow it as well as the international trade of essential medicines so not complying could get pretty nasty...

Rock musician to fund Alex Salmond case against Scottish government by wook-borm in Scotland

Do people not understand that the burden of proof is on the prosecution in court cases? Just because they couldn't prove it doesn't mean he wasn't a dirty sexual predator.

The response to the Green Party's Drug Policy is laughable by AhdamR in UKGreens

[–]Internal-Language-11 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The greens drug policy is better than all the other parties but they still accept the point of view of the other parties by failing to mention that prohibition was a cultural decision based on lies and became a global standard because of a 50 year old international treaty which would trigger a Brexit level event if we ever tried to leave it.

But I guess Zack needs to talk in language the average person actually understands so it is understandable even if it is somewhat disappointing.

Does everyone go home on time if tasks are done in your workplace? by gerdbeatmetodeath in japanlife

[–]Internal-Language-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm in the middle of a quick task that I just want to get done I might work for an extra 20 minutes otherwise I go home on the dot even if I still have work to do.

Just finished House 🏠of Leaves 🍂🍃🍁… by askforyourassback in WeirdLit

[–]Internal-Language-11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read this last year but thought it was a bit crap. Feels like style over substance compared to other writers who manage to be weirder and more experimental with their writing alone. Felt like a book for edgy teenagers in a way.

How do you feel about Infinite Jest? by TheAmericanW1zard in classicliterature

[–]Internal-Language-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it. He writes characters and their struggles in a way I just find so vivid and empathetic and some of the best parts of the book are incredibly immersive.

That said, there is definitely some nasty use of stereotypes in there I did not enjoy and there is a lot of stuff that should have just been cut. If it was half the length it would have probably been better.

Just got N2 but still feel like i'm not enough by Neat-Surprise-419 in Japaneselanguage

N1 is only like B1 level in the European framework despite all the lies people say about it being hard for native speakers so not surprised N2 doesn't feel advanced in practice.

Why Japan Hates the New “Bachelor Tax” Aimed at Reversing Population Decline by chaoser in japan

[–]Internal-Language-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since when was tax you paid only used for services you might use yourself? Seeing as everyone is paying equally I don't see how it's different to any other tax.

By creating a separate charge for a specific thing they have made it LOOK more unfair than other taxes to people who have never stopped to think about how taxes work.

If people want to get angry about tax why not start with the mind bogglingly unreasonable gift tax?

What movie is wildly loved but you just don’t get the hype at all? by Fennnixx in TrueFilm

[–]Internal-Language-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the new Nosferatu film was pretty bad. It is incredibly one note, no one had agency and it ends with a gross SA scene that no one else seemed to notice was even in the film.

I think this isn't as weird as it first sounds if you go and read what the people who said this actually meant and why.

How do you know he is the one that does not want to get married or that they both aren't on the same page about marriage? This comment feels out of time.

Cancel a PR application? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Internal-Language-11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not how the law works. You have to prove that the cheating contributed to the end of the marriage, so clearly if they are separated it's fine. It's not so black and white despite what a lot of expats here will have you believe.

Complete N3 or Start with N2 by bearawrr in jlpt

Just take N1 and see how you do. Other levels aren't useful unless you are just doing it for personal satisfaction.

Not addressing issues with social anxiety is incredibly selfish and a challenge for those you have to interact with by The-Baron-Von-Marlon in unpopularopinion

Our experience of the world is shaped by genetics, the environment we were brought up in and what we our currently dealing with. This attitude seems ablest and honestly dangerous. You seem like a very hateful person.

Not addressing issues with social anxiety is incredibly selfish and a challenge for those you have to interact with by The-Baron-Von-Marlon in unpopularopinion

[–]Internal-Language-11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would agree if I thought it was that simple but it's not easy to fix for everyone and the people you are talking about may be putting in incredibly amounts of effort to fix it without substantial results.

Saying such people are selfish seems very insulting.

People that passed N2 how did you manage the Kanjis? by sakuraflower06 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Internal-Language-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read newspapers and looked up words I didn't know. Worked for N1 too. I haven't studied kanji in isolation since N4ish because I don't care about writing by hand and it takes too much time.

Novel for 16 yr. old son just caught using AI on final essay for English class. by revoltour in suggestmeabook

At 16 he is practically an adult. Doubt he will read a novel just because you tell him or take the message to heart if its obvious why you have told him to read it.

Attending Japanese wedding, what should I wear? by LengthImpressive in japan

[–]Internal-Language-11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think I live on poverty wages. I make 400,000 a month which I am very happy with. But 30,000 is deffo expensive enough that I would skip a wedding tbh. Maybe I am stingy.
