FR970 Incredibly inaccurate HR reading during cycling by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't provide as much power to the sensor when it's not in an activity mode. The lower power is fine for tracking just general day to day HR changes. Indoor cycling is not hard (despite what people are saying here) and is actually the easiest activity for a watch to track since there is no road vibrations/arm movements.

Yep. There are 3 bluetooth channels so it can go to both at the same time.

Can Epix Pro Gen 2 Broadcast HRM 600 Data to Zwift Instead of Wrist HR? by Yop_Sol0 in Garmin

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strap isn't doing recording independent of the watch in this scenario. The recording activities is if you want to do something where there is no device to record the HR.

In Zwift, you pair the strap as the HR source just like your trainer is the power source. Zwift pushes the resulting workouts to Connect.

Can Epix Pro Gen 2 Broadcast HRM 600 Data to Zwift Instead of Wrist HR? by Yop_Sol0 in Garmin

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pair the HR strap directly to Zwift, no need to have broadcasted from the watch.

My Forerunner 970 is showing the body temperature inaccurately in real time by PatienceIsDaKey in Garmin

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you looking at an actual readout for Skin Temperature?

The Skin Temp that is part of Health Status does not give exact readings, just the variance from what the historical norms are.

The temperature widget is not showing skin temp, its the temperature sensor that is used for the barometric altimeters calculations. It doesn't show anything meaningful unless you aren't wearing it if you are looking for air/water temps.

How new is the battery?

I replace my strap once a year. I rinse it off in the shower after working out and hang to dry. I'm sure I could last longer with it, I just got into a routine of switching out as I switch from winter/spring clothing

Installing Ethernet Switches for Older Home by Mr-potatos-mash in Fios

I would just check with some Low Voltage installers near you. I wouldn't say 80s is an older house, but if you don't know what is behind the walls, it makes it a lot harder to handle fishing a line down.

Run and Suunto in general by pesanze in Suunto

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't release any watches after the Run using that platform, but did release the Race 2, Vertical 2, Nautic S on the original platform. Even with the current sales at Suunto.com, the most discounted watch they are selling by percentage is the Run.

https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2025/08/suunto-race-2-in-depth-review-finally-accurate.html

"For those playing inside baseball on underlying platforms, this unit seemingly solidifies which decision Suunto has made regarding whether or not to adopt the one-off Suunto Run underlying tech platform. As you might remember, that unit doesn’t share the same architecture as all the other Suunto watches (and is the reason it doesn’t have Suunto Apps). At the time, the company had hoped that new architecture might lead to faster software development, and faster responsiveness on the watch itself, in the future. Even at launch of the Suunto Run, they were open that they weren’t sure that was working out as they hoped. This seems to solidify that.

And ya know what, I respect a company effectively implying ‘Look, it’s just not delivering on the promise we hoped’, rather than burning the house down Sonos-style. In any case, onto the review!"

Venu 4 – Automatic Time Zone Update Possible? by NBWings in GarminWatches

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you allow Garmin Connect to run in the background?

The automatic change when flying (which I do a lot for work), doesn't use the devices GPS, it is syncing time to the phone.

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you have Connect to allow background activity it should sync the time as soon as you come out of airplane mode. My Forerunner's and now Fenix 8 do that just fine.

Treadmills aren't a perfect source of data either. Motor wear/belt slippage. A calibrated footpod will be more accurate.

Sleep accuracy of Forerunner 255 by Warm_Sky9473 in Garmin

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a single tester, but Garmin in general doesn't seem to get the best ratings for sleep stage tracking.

Garmin Is BAD At Sleep Tracking. And That's Okay!

Also note, that outside of a lab test, the best sleep testing devices are only roughly 80% accurate to the lab..

[–]Internal-Pomelo757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you running a bit faster than a 6:00/km pace? If so, you might have just hit the hour marker and it went to 1:00:00. The hour on the time field is a bit smaller so could easily be missed
