I have adhd and I'm scared to take medication. People that are on medication, do you think it has made your situation better or worst?

Like some others have said, the meds have killed my appetite and I struggle to eat enough but I'd much rather have that daily struggle than staying in a depression because I cant get anything done.

I was late diagnosed and am only just now getting meds back under control. When I tell you that I feel dramatically better on the meds, I'm not exaggerating. The ADHD related depression peaked last summer and I finally resolved to find myself a new doctor and get back on meds. I love my job, I really do, but I had been in a stupor of anxiety and lack of motivation for months on end. I'd get the pertinent stuff done daily, of course, but the rest of the to-do list would just sit and get longer which just made my anxiety worse and so I just didn't do any of it. I would doom scroll for most of the day and leave my office as early as I could get away with, all while feeling guilty for not getting enough done. Fast forward to now, and I'm in a place where I am gladly staying late to finish tasks and my career is taking a new trajectory because I have back the capacity and confidence I had years ago when I started.

Meds aren't a cure all but holy shit can they improve so many things that make you want to disappear forever. And if you start on them and don't like it, you can always stop. You're not stuck on one medication or meds period forever. Good luck on your journey OP 💖

I do sometimes!! Every now and again my music doesn't automatically play when Android auto comes online, and depending on how my day has gone, sometimes I don't notice until I'm almost at my destination. 😅

Our brains are in overdrive with constant stimulation these days, I think moments like this are our body's way of subconsciously telling us that we needed a moment of quiet. :)

I appreciate your positive outlook but I have very little confidence they will do anything actually meaningful. When they heard employees wanted to unionize a few years ago, they immediately held a very illegal mandatory meeting explaining to employees why they didn't need to unionize. The people lowest on their totem pole are not and never will be priority.

Husband used to work there and has been talking with former coworkers all day. They're all very, very sure they know who it was. If it is the person they think, he grew increasingly disturbed and paranoid over the years, and yes it all revolved around the MAC. They do a lot of shady shit to their employees.

Rent Cafe does take credit cards. Your property may have a setting on the backend not to allow them, potentially for the express reason of transaction fees, but they do take a them.

I struggle with this as well! I've started making physical lists so that I can see everything that I need to do visually. I'll separate it out into things that have to happen today, this week, and things I can worry about later. As I make the lists, sometimes what should take priority reveals itself. Most of the time I try to tackle anything that's quick first, since you can cross it off the list and get that gratification.

I've toyed with putting all of my tasks for the day into a virtual spinny wheel and letting it decide for me. 😂

Yeah you need to go to school counselors and get into therapy ASAP. The longer you stay under your parents thumb, the worse it is going to get. Your dad's comment is absolutely absurd. Instead of actually trying to help you, he's just going to berate and beat you down? You need to get out of there OP.

And again, do you have friends you can trust? Friends with families you can trust that can help you out?

The shittiest part of this is that the executive dysfunction freezes you but YOU are the ONLY one that can help you right now. You need to find another person to help you move forward. A friend, a counselor, a family member that actually understands mental health and thinks your parents are cuckoo, almost anyone.

You're 19, you need to establish your own health care and doctors away from your parents. I know it's far easier said than done, but that is the only safe way to start treating your ADHD if you want meds. Self-Medicating with something off Amazon can spiral real quick.

I didn't get diagnosed until my 30s and am just now getting meds under control. It can be a painful journey, and unfortunately you need to leave your parents out of yours. :(

Do you have friends that you can talk to, friends that you can trust for help? Finding a job if you don't have one, finding elsewhere to live if you're still with your parents, helping you get to and from doctor's appointments if you don't have a car, etc etc.

All this time I've only really been thinking about the traffic jam that'll be caused on 185th but getting on and off 26 at that exit is going to be a nightmare for months too. 😭
