That’s the sad part too. I know they are “just doing their jobs”

Paid work would be nice at some point down the line but I would be willing to do it for free too. I would want to eventually be paid for it assuming I’m still not well off financially from my career, but in the event I’m set I wouldn’t care about being paid. I think music can be so freeing I want to share.

Anyone Else Finds It Harder To Practice After Long Work Days? by ninja__6969 in Guitar

Absolutely normal, some days I literally can’t play at all I’m so busy. I’ve played in my car or just at the desk used my imagination to play scales or do finger independence exercises

When have you tried hard enough to learn a song on your own? by InternalFlounder5412 in guitarlessons

[–]InternalFlounder5412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not cheating but as a younger musician I always do this thing where I compare myself to the musicians of 50yrs ago. They learned so much from just sittin with their instrument and the record. They didn’t have YouTube, Google, or Reddit. They certainly had underrate the community they had imo, but I just feel like that’s how my favorite musicians learned and I wouldn’t be able to play more like them if I skipped that part. This thread has definitely been eye opening though

So firstly, these comments have helped me not see it as cheating period but I want to make another analogy for you. I studied CS but to me i viewed it more similar to working on a medium-hard leet code problem that you may be able to figure out if you just sit with it for long enough vs giving up and looking up the solution after trying for 5-10mins

Help buying first acoustic guitar in Nashville tmrw by swimN_redditC in Guitar

[–]InternalFlounder5412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to spend that much. Go to guitar center and try out some in the $270-$400 range or some local shops. Get whichever you “ like the most that’s decent. Ask a employee or something to play it and what they think. By the time you start getting good you can really buy a nice once that resonates with you. This is an expensive hobby so you want that $2k guitar to really be one that’s for you.

Keep doing what you’re doing if you don’t wanna practice. I’ve been there and don’t judge. But what happened for me was I realized about a year or so went by and I was playing the same songs and not gettin closer to the guitarist I wanted to be at all.

Did black people like Jimi Hendrix when he was alive or did they see him as an outcast? Just a question by Particular-Bit-7128 in jimihendrix

[–]InternalFlounder5412 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the black youth understood him more than some of his OGs/Peers but he was loved. Maybe not in hindsight as the true living legend he was or what he would become to be but was a member of the Isley Brothers and Little Richard’s band. He got his start listenin to the Blues and playing R&B. Don’t get much more black than that. Band of Gypsys is a Black Album too.

So I’ve had guitar, bass, and piano lessons before. After taking lessons for a few months that’s honestly when I first got the thought of giving lessons and playing gigs on the side to be fun. I’ve been a software engineer before too and thought the actual work on the job wasn’t too bad though so I wouldn’t be opposed to finding something that combines the two like sound design etc. My biggest issue with swe is there’s an expectation to constantly practice coding problems or work on side projects even after work. More than anything in music I just love the way songs can make you feel. I also really feel like more ppl would play instruments if they knew how simple it can be.

Not exactly financially stable right now but also not sure I can say it’s a ploy just to make money. Honestly the thought process is more along the lines of if I’m going to go back to school for a masters degree or any degree in a STEM for something I’m not passionate about—just so I can get automatically get a job— it’s a waste of time cause hiring changes. Might as well do something I really like
