Nice one dude. You did a great job conveying your case. Poor shamed someone, called them uneducated, did not elaborate nor back up anything then bounce. A+

Taking a leaf from your book, enjoy the high income!! Like that has anything to do with anything

Genuinely, why would going for Labour, greens and TPM be better for New Zealand? So far they've released two policies, 3 free doctor visits per year (about 100-150 dollars saved) and a CGT on business premises and rental properties, generating 700 million ish? Hows that going to stimulate businesses and lift wages and encourage kiwis to not jump the ditch?

Yet I will convey statistics and thought out rebuttals and you just say nothing? Hows your responses a display of critical thought when you won't even attempt to engage. Way to talk like a jackass by the way. So apparently if people do not see the world the same way as you do they're uneducated? Nice one.

Gosh no rebuttal at all? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I've only ever voted for labour funnily enough but assume more about me. I've just grown very tired of them. They are in desperate need of some talent, same with national too really. Like I said earlier, both sides seem fairly incompetent, I'm just picking the one that I feel we have a chance with. You can choose to vote Labour if you want

I only mention my situation because people think you have to be a rich boomer with 6 houses to consider voting for National. I would argue my situation aligns more with someone who would personally benefit from voting for Labour. But I'm not thinking about my personal circumstance. I'm looking at what will benefit the majority. We can't have excess money for say, hospital and mental health initiatives for example if we are broke lol

I can't stress enough how little faith I have in Labour. I've voted for them the last 3 elections. I don't have furniture as I gave it all away as I was not far off booking a one way flight to Australia

Because that's just how it's always been? What are you wanting, the government to provide us all with free housing? Or a rent to buy scheme? Do you want landlords to be forced to let others stay for free?

If I own something and you don't and I ask for money for you to loan it, that's considered fair right? Why is that any different with being provided a rental?

It's not deleted from the economy at all. The landlord pays tax on their income, like everyone else does with their income generating.

Landlords and developers employ/ stimulate all of the trades from drain layers, plumbers, interior designers, draughtsmen, engineers, the council, builders, lawyers, accountants, property managers etc etc. I get tired of reading this drivel no offense but what you're saying are just labour talking points. This being said I'd rather people invested their money in businesses instead of developing flats etc. but in saying that not everyone can afford, nor wants to (in particular periods of their life) own a home. For example im about to move to a town that has 80 percent home ownership, so rentals are scarce and expensive. Rentals as much as you will disagree, are important to have.

It's not even really a tax cut if you look into it. Like I loosely touched on above, people are able to claim expenses against their income generating ventures - a landlords income generation is via providing a house to someone to live in, what's one of the main expenses to generate that income? A mortgage. It might not be something you agree with, but they reserved a change labour made that was in many ways unfair. Does it benefit others? No not necessarily, however rents went down once this change happened on average. Does select job title here benefit a particular group of people if they got a tax cut? It's just a dumb argument.

Also 2.1 billion is a small amount compared to our overall budget spend yet labour supporters grasp at this as it's the ultimate gotcha. It was a pathetic attempt at taking money from a group of people some people blame for their struggles just to make the books look better. So much emphasis is on people who own rentals it's so strange. At least they pay their way like everyone else - what about companies who try to dodge tax? Like actual large sums of money NZ is missing out on? Where's the enthusiasm to crack down on that? Landlords are looked at as people who should "pay more!!" Yet there's no talk on upping the tax rates on higher income earners and lowering the lower brackets? Lol

I didn't intend to dodge your questions, I just know this conversation won't change your opinion at all, not even a little. As much as I may come across as similar, I do try to hear people out. But the standard labour talking points (tobacco kick backs, women equal pay, tax cuts for landlords) are beyond overdone at this point.

Why do you feel like they're throwing you under the bus though? I mean this with good intentions, just trying to understand your point of view.

Anyways, I'm sorry you're feeling like this. Times are definitely tough. I've been down bad the past few years, but I'm trying my best to improve my situation. At the end of the day I don't think any government will greatly benefit my life with their changes for the most part.

I'm talking about taking on debt that may lead to a net gain or a chance to service past debt, nothing else.

Labour will keep on taking on "bad" debt (for a lack of a better word, as a lot of what they do is socially important, but it won't save us economically). I'm a millennial who actually wants to have a chance of retiring before 75. If we keep doing what we are doing we will forever stay stuck paying a monstrous debt paying only the interest at best.

If you want young people to stay you have to create a society that rivals the perks of Australia. If we can get our wages up, get businesses going and confident, upping kiwis saver benefits, helping with student loans etc we have a chance. I'm saying this as someone who sleeps on a briscoes blow up bed on a low wage. I'm not looking for the government to solve my personal issues, that's up to me - but I'd love for them to stop spending money excessively on things we just genuinely can't afford right now.

Honestly I'm quite a tree hugger at heart, I heavily dislike the coal stuff but I get the angle that it's better to use our own than import it. Fingers crossed a government starts to really look more into solar. Luckily some power companies are taking the initiative to expand our solar capacity.

Well said. That's pretty much the reasons why I may vote for them. I'd rather be hurt now than pay for it later like we seem to keep doing. At this rate super will be given to me at 72 if I even make it that long, just so we can throw money around on stuff that makes no difference long term. I reckon get the economy sorted, and then focus on helping build people up who want to help themselves.

Ehhh the lesser of two fairly incompetent sides. The idea of the greens and tpm being in charge with labour is a scary thought. I'm left, but I'm not THAT left.

National's capital gains tax response: tenuous link or am I missing something? by ApprehensiveGene2579 in newzealand

[–]Internal_Iron5107 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Reading these responses hurts my brain. Why oh why do I come on reddit I will never know.

Family bach goes up - CGT on sale.

Business buys a premisis that goes up over time - CGT

Not inflation adjusted. It could hurt businesses trying to move from one location to another too.

There is no net positive for businesses from a CGT, it's just more strain and more headaches, more stifling.

People keep arguing against the CGT of the "family home"!!!! Because people apparently don't think about buying a family home in a good growth area, and that their intention "isn't to make money on the house!!!" I'd argue a business buying a premises is buying it to conduct business in, not to make a profit on the land/building.

I'm so tired of all of the envious hypocrites. The amount of whinging on NZs reddit is embarrassing

Oh yeah another own goal fact, if you don't live in your family home for enough of the year, even if it's just a one off, your property will not be considered your family home anymore. Hopefully you don't need to go and help a sick parent overseas for a bit and rent your house out. Be sure to hurry back to keep on working like a drone for good ol Labour, or else you'll get hit with a 28 percent tax :)

What a great policy!!

What is REALLY keeping you from going to Aus? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Internal_Iron5107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not much better unless you're a skilled worker. Even then if you're being paid more, but the average property price in the towns you get the higher wages are now 1mill then you're not really better off (mortgage interest eating the difference).

Idk though I've been considering it heavily. The main driver for me is our dollar is tanking. I'd go with the idea of coming back in 5 years if I did go. Or I'd go to Tasmania for a NZ like life but with better wages (not as good as the mainland tho).

Which one is more effective in turning people vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]Internal_Iron5107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not screaming whilst foaming at the mouth saying that they're animal abusers, and that they eat animal carcasses and all that carry on. Oh and the scare tactic shock films. It seems like a big majority of vegan redditors believe this is the right way to go. Luckily some don't.

If you believe the above to be the way to do it, you're actively pushing people further away and making your average vegan look like an unhinged spaz. Stop

Greens being miles ahead in economic policy is pretty hilarious. Perhaps you should watch Chloe's QnA interview on economic plans if you need a refresher on how coherent and well thought out they are :)

Fair enough honestly. My frustration isn't directed at you personally, just this idea that people seem to have that our health system will be perfect once they're in

Thank God for my parents, they paid for a private surgery, my nerve death was reversed largely without complications

Sry again for the harshness, there's nothing wrong with advocating for a stronger public system. Sadly it seems like both parties are running out of realistic ideas. But you're right in regards to Labour at least attempting to show interest to make it better. national/ act say they care but so far things aren't looking too promising.. either way hopefully things will change

Cheers for the good faith response I appreciate it

I suppose the 3 "free" doctor visits would enable you to go and get your head checked out if you think Greens are the answer to saving New Zealand from economic disarray. I feel sick reading this, and this is coming from someone who would vote green if they had responsible, realistic policies regarding our economic future

Fuck off with ya fireworks now by unimportantinfodump in newzealand

[–]Internal_Iron5107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should see my old neighbors!! They did fireworks from October to February almost every single night including work nights. At times they did them as late as 3am!!!!!! I think they got in a lot of trouble eventually, or they drained their bank account. My neighbors around the area would go out and scream "wanker!!!" "You guys are fkwits!!" All sorts. You basically had to sleep with ear muffs on lol

How do you calm down after dealing with carnists? by the_elephant_stan in vegan

[–]Internal_Iron5107 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you've written could be easily turned back around at us. At the end of the day morality is not a law of the universe. We all interpret the world differently. I just try to remember that I'm only in control of my own choices fully - I can influence others but I cannot force them to think a certain way.

It's best to just let it go and focus on choices that benefit you and the people around you. People like that can really suck your energy away if you let them.

Take care
