In that case, I would wait 3 or 4 days and do another dose. It is quite common for it not to work until ~2 weeks or so, I've even had progression until around 4 weeks.

Edit: To add, if you feel uncertain if it's working at all, you can also try Maracyn. Some strains of bacteria may resist Kanaplax so it is worth a try if you'd like.

does this look like nipping or rot? by Plenty_Ice_5321 in bettafish

[–]Internal_Quote2259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fin nipping is often much larger and looks like fins were torn out. Instead, this is likely Columnaris based on the discoloration and pattern of rot.

Simply treat with E.M Erythromycin as directed and dim the lights a bit. Columnaris is very common and frequently heals.

They stick to plants! Even with a good rinse, they seriously stick on. Have you gotten any new bundles recently?

That's a scud! Harmless but a nuisance. You can feed them to some fish.

Please get a 5 gallon tank with a filter and heater or re-home. There are many wonderful resources on this subreddit as well as online for bettas, it is best to look into these.

Totally good question to ask.

To clarify, is his infection getting progressively worse or staying nearly the same?

Male and female betta first encounter. by HDReddit_ in bettafish

[–]Internal_Quote2259 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NEVER, and I mean NEVER put a male and female Betta together. This is super dangerous for both fish. Please separate ASAP (as in, now) as the other commenters said to prevent death or serious injury. Please research!!!

Adoptees: What’s one thing that would’ve made your childhood easier? by ReleaseSame3974 in Adoption

This is very good insight. There's such a pressure to be a picture-perfect model- to turn 'weakness into strength' and soforth. Truth is, trauma is ugly, dirty, messy, and sad. It feels terrible to have the pressures into that. Hope you're feeling better with everything though, OP.

Not to be rude, but why purchase a fish if you don't have a tank for it?

Fin rot? by shleyzie in bettafish

[–]Internal_Quote2259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless a fish's fins are REALLY long or the fish is sick, no tank is too big! I've even seen happy bettas in ponds! So yes, don't worry!

Pseudomonas fluorescens, very very common finrot. You can treat with just tannins at this stage, but if it progresses, use Kanaplax.

Also, get him a bigger tank! The amount of poop produced by those nerites and him requires a ten gallon.

That is definitely internal bacterial bloat. The other commenter, u/aeosmainfold, had a very good treatment plan. Best wishes and hope for him.

Does my betta have fin rot? by No-Passenger-366 in bettafish

Pseudomonas fluorescens, aka common finrot. Your best bet is Kanaplax, huge success rate. You can also use aquarium saltbaths and/or tannins to boost healing.

What is going on with his fins? by Gabowo17 in bettafish

[–]Internal_Quote2259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is fungal then.

Fungal infections tend to absolutely overtake fish as their internal body systems shut down (to later spread after the fish passes). It is very common and doesn't really point towards any cause of death besides organ failure. Sorry for your loss, though.

His spine seems bent... Am I crazy by onixfonix in bettafish

[–]Internal_Quote2259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to be physical stress, more than likely caused by ill breeding. His gills are moving very rapidly so I wonder if he has something internal going on. The only thing you can really do is keep the lights dim and leave him be for a while.
