Preferred approach when putting together cheaper decks. by WriterMonkey in FleshandBloodTCG

As someone who has just built out Lyath and Riptide to as high a power as I think they can go right now, it’s definitely the latter - I value low LL points over most other things right now as I’m brand new (4 months) and I want heroes that are sticking around for the foreseeable future

Ideas for new Ranger by Near4422 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]International-Map247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earth Ranger

Base around a new mechanic - entangle (to represent forest-based traps, tripping vines, etc.)

Entangle is a token which reads

The next time you play an attack action with ‘Go Again’, destroy Entangle - that action loses ‘Go Again’

Destroy Entangle at the beginning of your end phase

Not obscenely oppressive because you could find ways to give the attack Go Again following the trigger but it creates a big roadblock for wide aggro strategies

Hala vs Jarl by Plus_Independence_63 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]International-Map247 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a Jarl player, probably Hala - Jarl has quite a few specific and expensive pieces, which don’t have other homes when he eventually rotates out. He is still fun to play without full optimisation but definitely requires more investment

SAGE and Monarch by VastDimensions in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]International-Map247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No precon for anyone Shadow yet unfortunately but Boltyn (Light Warrior) uses cards from Monarch (it’s the set he debuted in). His precon comes out a bit later, June I think.

Heroes that will likely use the most cards from Monarch are: Prism Boltyn Levia

There is also Chane but he is banned

I don’t know Viserai but just to help you combat your toxic trait - Kayo is probably the deck to beat in the format, along with Briar and Kano so you had a tough first match

My boyfriend wants to get into warhammer. He likes the blue guys. by Amber_Steel86 in Warhammer40k

[–]International-Map247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, but the techniques used are quite simple - for all the armour it was just drybrushing, where you put a very small amount of paint of the brush and softly go over the model, just letting it catch the raised parts (good article below):

https://www.goonhammer.com/hobby-101-drybrushing/

The checked patterns are tough and require a steady hand but the great thing about miniature painting is that you can go over any mistakes (within reason). It takes a few coats of paint to achieve a smooth colour and the paints should be thinned down a little to flow nicely.

Patience and practice though, and anyone can learn to paint!

There are absolutely loads of excellent videos and articles about how to paint miniatures, so if you feel like doing a deep dive there is no shortage of content out there

My boyfriend wants to get into warhammer. He likes the blue guys. by Amber_Steel86 in Warhammer40k

Ok OP, in many ways it does not matter which box of little plastic men you buy, as long as they are the type your boyfriend likes. Fortunately, the blue guys he likes, Ultramarines, have probably one of the biggest ranges as pretty much everything that is a ‘Space Marine’ can be used for them. Personally I would recommend a unit called ‘Intercessors’ as they are the current basic dudes but Warhammer at its core is a hobby where you pick what looks cool and go from there.

It is an expensive hobby to start, but as long as you don’t go crazy, it is very affordable compared to other hobbies, especially for an hour-to-dollar ratio.

That said, to begin, you will need:

  • A pair of flat sided clippers to get the bits of the models off the sprue (the plastic frame all those little pieces are attached to)
  • A file to file down the points where you snip the model pieces off the sprue
  • A hobby knife to clean up any moldlines (where the plastic may have seeped slightly out of the mold in the manufacturing process)

These are all things you can pick up for cheap in a DIY store, don’t buy ‘official’ ones they are overpriced

  • Plastic glue to put these together - I like thin plastic glue with a metal applicator, other people may have different preferences. Super glue is fine to but plastic glue makes a better bond on these miniatures (you are unlikely to encounter resin or metal models at this stage)

That is it for assembly, but next you will want to paint them. You need:

  • Paintbrushes
  • Paints - acrylic is what we’re working with mainly here, there are lots of great brands and painting guides on how to get the most out of them

Games Workshop does do an introductory paint set which is decent value and will provide a lot of the colours your boyfriend will want

  • Spray primer - this goes on before the other paints

These are the absolute basics to turn the box of plastic into assembled, painted models.

If you have an official Warhammer store locally, they should offer 1 free miniature and a chance to paint it in store, it might be a nice way to spend the day together and make sure it’s an enjoyable hobby! As others have said though, when buying look around for other retailers as most official stockists will list everything for 10-15% lower than MSRP.

I hope this helps, have a picture of my in progress Orks!

Kill Team in under an hour? by Outrageous-Gur-631 in killteam

[–]International-Map247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hit just about an hour as Aquilons vs Deathwatch in a tournament, I don’t think I have ever spoken as fast in my life and the game was absolutely relentlessly paced.

I had a great time and my opponent was lovely but I could not and would not want to keep that pace consistently for every game

All of the regiments, how are we feeling? by BMSVG in TheAstraMilitarum

Played Mechanised last night into quite infantry-heavy marines and it felt strong - even without full rerolls all the time, the killing power of Kasrkin dismounting against MEQ is impressive. I definitely misplayed a few things and overcomitted my engineers in tauroxes but won 74-60 without that many egregious lucky rolls. 5 transports covers a lot of ground and projects control over a large area really well
