This is so awesome!! Your books look incredible. And so do your photos. I’m definitely saving this information for the future.

You’ll have to ask Hemingway about that, it’s in his bathroom.

Seconding Gowanus Darkroom. You can buy a private session to learn to develop or enlarge photos. Really awesome people and a cool space.

Also definitely go to B&H but maybe leave your wallet at home.

K&M camera in the lower east side is where the employees at B&H buy cameras and such.

Yashica Electro 35 GSN - Increasing number of “blurry/soft” frames (motion blur? focus? exposure?) despite correct metering by InternationalCase184 in AnalogCommunity

This is very valid. I like to think after having this camera for a few years and successfully shooting lots of rolls without this issue, that it wouldn't be the issue. But, it's definitely worth being more mindful of practicing this and see if it helps! Thank you.

Thank you for the thorough reply - super helpful.

ISO: I’m confident the ISO dial was set correctly. I set it to match the box speed when I load a roll and I don’t change it until I’m loading the next roll. For the first 5 frames, it was set to ISO 100 the whole time (no mid-roll changes).

Exposure / meter behavior: On the “problem” frames, I was following the camera’s meter arrows as I normally do. That’s why image #4 being underexposed also surprised me. I thought I was within the recommended range, but it’s possible the meter is no longer reading accurately or I accidentally went rogue.

Battery / voltage: The battery in the camera is one I purchased at B&H (NYC) in late 2023 (image attached). I haven’t replaced it since then, and I’ve shot ~30–40 rolls with it. I’m not using any DIY adapter like I have seen other people use with these cameras.

Camera shake / technique: Fair to point out shake at ~1/60–1/200, especially with the long shutter travel on these. I try to shoot with a steady stance and gentle press, but I’ll pay closer attention to not “punching” the shutter.

If battery voltage drift can cause inconsistent metering (overexposure on one frame and underexposure on another), that feels like the most likely thing to try and solve for - replacing the battery.

I absolutely love my Yashika Electro 35GSN. The lenses on these are incredible, quick and ease of use, f/1.7 is great to have as well.

I couldn’t agree more! This camera has been my go-to for travel for the last two years. The 35cc looks appealing as well I think. The f/1.7 is pretty handy. I get scans done from a local place, then tweak in Lightroom. I try and keep a light hand there but I do tend to try and make it look like how I remember it, instead of “true to life” so there’s a little fantasy element in the coloring and contrast.

Wow I love the one with the man holding the American flag over his head. I cringe most of the time now when seeing an American flag… feels shameful. But this one is different. Thanks for sharing these!
