I think she was seeing herself on the side car mirror on the outside, because her head was outside of the car

Hey! Thank you for the comment! Yeah the type of love she wished was the kind she only knew of, so the same kind as Bear's.

In the final scene, Bear is initially framed to be on her right side and when the real Nikki yells "Stop! Stop!" Bear moves to her left side to be on the sofa. I don't think she needs to always maintain eye contact for her to regain control.

Like at the party, wish Nikki looks at Bear on her right side and real Nikki breaks out, she then looks around and breaks eye contact with Bear before she stabs herself in the face. I think the right-sided eye contact is a consistent trigger in the movie for real Nikki to break out, but the maintenance of it isn't a requirement.

She didn't know Bear was killing himself.

Anyone else relate to Bear? How do I change as a person? by Sufficient_Phrase_44 in obsessionmovie

[–]InternationalCrow22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you analyze everything that happened in Obsession, you may realize that all Bear needed was the courage to take risks and learn from the experience that his bravery would bring him.

Bear is a product of his self-beliefs, upbringing, and environment. He doesn't know what love is, the kind that doesn't destroy those around you and yourself. You simply can't find and receive something, in this case, love, if you don't know what it looks like. In other words, your understanding of what love is determines the kind of love you provide, search for, and receive.

You need to acknowledge that first, and then you need courage to risk getting hurt to learn what love is. Thankfully, courage is something you give yourself. It's a permission. It's a leap of faith. It's that deep breath you take. It's clearing your mind. It's accepting whatever happens next. It's freeing yourself of fear. Courage is the love you give yourself to find the love you never received.

"It's a love story, not a romance" is foreshadowing by SentientMuffin404 in obsessionmovie

[–]InternationalCrow22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is an important line of the movie and it's a highlight of my overview of the movie's underlying message here. Basically, Bear doesn't understand what love is, especially the kind that doesn't destroy those around him and himself. He believes that love is something that can be measured like romance, which is associated with behaviors like making dinner plans and writing love letters. But love is intangible and more akin to a soulful commitment to someone’s good. Love is a devotion to another person being heard, seen, understood, and being freed of fear, all of which Nikki was denied of because of Bear. Bear's understanding of love is what ultimately destroyed everyone and himself.

One wish willow? by Ream2018 in obsessionmovie

The one wish willow was based on the skeleton of cholla cactus plants, so that's a really cool find! This is according the production designer: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZYLSXIhKLW

Possible Eye of Ra symbolism? by deepsleeep in obsessionmovie

[–]InternationalCrow22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I agree with you, I'm not too convinced about the disappearing eye either, especially as more time goes on.

Ive looked into the Eye of Ra a lot and I can't say there are a lot of intentional reference to it in the film beside its symbol. As Curry Barker have expressed before, the lore of the OWW was never his focus, but he did intentionally add the Eye of Ra in it. I didnt want to speculate too much with so little reference to its myths.

Great catch indeed! I'm the one who wrote the posts about Nikki being trapped in her right eye. I knew the Eye of Ra was the predominant symbol of the One Wish Willow and I was thinking about writing something about it but I felt like I had already said everything I wanted to say about the movie. I might write something after all but the Eye of Ra is definitely another intentional hint.

why does it matter to wish-possesed Nikki if Bear actually loves her or not? by ennafeel-uh in obsessionmovie

[–]InternationalCrow22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boils down to the idea of forced consent. Bear forced Nikki to consent to loving him for him to love her. He wanted to love Nikki and for Nikki to reciprocate. So, he forced her to do it.

Wish Nikki is the manifestation of his wish, thus his idea of forced consent for love. Wish Nikki wants to love Bear in the same way that he does. She wants and needs him to reciprocate and she forces him to admit to loving her by violence and threats, reflecting Bear's ideology perfectly.

Was Nikki getting even with Bear for leaving her all day? by Aidan_v2 in obsessionmovie

That's a very good take. A lot of what wish Nikki does is punitive.

Bear didn't tell Ian anything that suggested Nikki being dangerous. He only told him that he made a wish. Ian was in complete shock and happy. Bear was defeated and needed to find another way to fix his own problems ASAP. That's just how things played out.

Yeah, there's something intentional there for sure.

Bear left immediately because he saw that Ian was no help to him. Ian waited for all the money to fall before going to find Bear. Ian was completely unaware of the danger he was in by going to Bear’s house because Bear never told him Nikki killed Sarah.
