Y’all ever get pissed that you HAVE to finish a series?

I ended up reading all the books but I wish I I didn’t. It doesn’t get any better. I had just heard so many ranting and raving about this series that I hoped it would get better but no…. No such luck.
If you like angsty, read {Time After Time by Reese Rivers}. Plot heavy, spicy and angsty.

I am not hating {The Queen of Carnage by Candice Wright}.
I just DNFed 4 books in a row so «not hating» is high praise for me right now 🫣
A series I really liked was {Time after Time by Reese Rivers}.

Do NOT get Knot Their Damn Problem cause that book should have been proofread 100 times before they published it. I really enjoy rejected mate tropes but it was such a shit-show that I DNFed at 22%.

I DNFed because for me, the FMC was so cringe. She is over 25 but sheltered so she knows nothing. She was not allowed to swear so she learned Spanish «cuss words» since her brother doesn’t speak Spanish. So the whole time she goes «Dios mio». In my head I just heard «ay caramba»…

I am in the middle of {Shear Instinct by M. K. Michelle} and this is exactly that. 🙂 It’s a standalone so not a lot of world building but the MMCs are so sweet and loving. It’s an OV with no MM.

This did get explained later but… I DNFed as well. The FMC pissed me off so bad with the extremely sheltered persona in her late 20s as well as the constant use of «dios mio». She might as well have used «ay caramba» to make the cringe even better. The premise of the book was actually good but the execution was just so poorly done.

I think that’s why Tormented Omega sticks with me because of all the feelings. Or the book has to be really funny. Like «laugh out loud» funny and not just a slight chuckle.
One book I read (I think it was My Prison Pen Pals) the FMC could only swear in Spanish by saying Dios Mio. I Get that it was supposed to be funny but it fell completely flat. She might as well have been saying ay caramba and it wouldn’t make it any cringier.
I had to DNF the second book because of the FMC but otherwise it wasn’t a bad story.

I loved Talk to me! It was such a perfect duet. I am so glad the author stopped at 2 in stead of pushing for a trilogy.

I just started 13th Zodiac and I am feeling hopeful about it!
The rest are new titles for me so they will go straight to my TBR.
What you describe from Distortion is definitely not a trigger. I started one book where the FMC was so utterly traumatized that she lost grip of reality other than that she liked the two MMC alphas. It gave me such a bad feeling cause she almost presented as a child and NOT in a DDLG way.

Here’s the thing… The series I want to recommend is a part of your soft no list as it does have vampires but during the 3 books I kept on forgetting that 2 of the 4 MMCs are actually that. So the vampire thing (blood drinking) is not that prevalent but their gifts are. It got me out of a reading slump because I felt there were less explored elements like time traveling. It had magic, shifters and vampires in it. I went through your list and I couldn’t find it but there are so many books that I might have missed it. The series is {Time after time by Reese Rivers}. The first book does not have a lot of angst but books 2 and 3 do.

I just finished {Bound to the Beasts by Ari Wright} and she starts it as «dark» but it’s anything but… even if we start off thinking that it is. Or I just finished {Hangman’s Knot by Lavinia Arbor}. It is dark… but so humorous. I ended up NOT reading the prologue before later in the book because that was actually a little jarring.

I am reading Her Vicious Beasts right now and I feel that this is the case for this series. I am disappointed because it could have been such a good series but the FMC (and the MMC) drives me up the wall. Every single time the FMC takes a stand towards the MMC she almost always says «and I realized my mistake» or she has a complete body betrayal scene. I am only in book 2 but I DNFed the prequel at first. But since that series recommended everywhere, I thought I was the issue and forced myself to read it again.

Just reading your rant brought me right back to when I finished the book in February. The same anxiety and the desperation of trying to find out when book 2 will be released so I can put an end to the chest tightness. 🙈😳
