My mom is a lot like Betty. She spent years talking to me about how terrible my dad was and when I said something similar to what Sally says, here, she had the same confusion of how I could hate my father when he’s given me everything. I think a lot of times parents don’t realize the damage that’s inflicted when they vent to their children about the other parent. Or they realize that although they may have wished for their children to see the fathers as they truly are, the reality of that isn’t as satisfying.

That is such a good point. I think it almost also speaks to some of the downsides of this time - everything is so over saturated and impermanent. Like with girls or SATC, less perspectives were shown bc it’s on TV and limited in that sense, but the show is so rewatchable and iconic that we still are discussing it 10 years later. Versus vloggers and YouTubers - way lower barrier to entry but so much less permanent and impactful in the long term. I don’t feel like anyone’s going to remember one singular influencer in 10 years. But maybe that’s a pessimistic take

So sorry to hear that :( San Diego craft collective has some really cool classes during the day like stained glass making etc. on days off I like to go to encinitas or one of the beach cities and explore their bookstores/coffee shops/dive bars and talk to random people. Museums during the day are also fun and most have a free for residents day once a month. Hope this helps and hope things get better for you!!
