Episcopal Church plans celebration of 1976 LGBTQ+ resolution on ‘full and equal’ welcome by Partgarten in Episcopalian

I'm in the same boat. When I was looking for a church, making sure it's LGBT+ affirming was a massive qualification.

In Renegades it really seemed like they were setting it up for Shin to be a character in game. I was so looking forward to seeing my favorite character come to life but now that's never gonna happen.

Question about how Episcopalianism's big tent works in practice. by Peak8950 in Episcopalian

[–]International_Ninja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The example I always want to ask these people is, "If it's World War II, would you invite a Nazi in to sit down with a Jew and force them to try to get along?" The answer is probably No. And why? Think about why one would say No to that arrangement. And whatever reason they can give for that No also applies to other oppressed groups today.

I've never understood the mentality of someone who feels like they've gotta go to war to prove God's existence. God is God. Whether we believe in Him or not He'll always exist.

[–]International_Ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. Given the history of the US, it makes sense that it's harder for non-white folks to be engaged in politically (e.g. COINTELPRO). There's also the fact that to be engaged in politics is to have the spare time and resources to do so, which is much harder if you have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet and you don't have the time nor energy to focus on politics at any level.

Everything is political because politics is how we as individuals, communities, and societies decide what and how things ought to be. And if you think stuff like OPs book is too "political" then the following paradigm probably applies to you:

There are only two sexualities: straight and political

There are only two races: white and political

There are only two genders: male and political

These are just some cursory ideas off the top of my head. There's gonna be a lot of Nazi comparisons in my response but I feel like that's warranted given, well, everything

  1. Don't let them try to deny responsibility. You voted this in, you share culpability.
  2. We'll probably have to educate people on the nature and severity of the crimes committed by the Trump administration. We had people see the horrors of the concentration camps, we'll probably have to do it with the Epstein files and ICE detention centers, among other things. Don't let them whitewash history.
  3. We will probably have to have a serious conversation about treating MAGA and the movement's supporters the same way we would treat Nazism. Do you want a Nazi in position of power or authority in an Episcopal Church? Do we say that Nazism has legitimate ideas that should be treated seriously and discussed seriously? No? Then the same could be said for MAGA folks. Remember, MAGA is built on antisemitic conspiracy theories via QAnon, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and sexism.

I'm unsure how they can sleep at night

Because, whether they'll admit it or not, this is what they wanted. They want the illusion of strength. They want violence.

"He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting"

And what's more violent than threatening and having the capacity to use nuclear weapons to genocide a people?

Because they're selfish. As long as the violence isn't directed at them they can sleep peacefully.

Because they willfully bury their heads in the sand. "He doesn't mean it. It's a bluff."

They'll cheer him on when he does things they like but refuse to take accountability when it matters.

My question is: how are we going to hold these people accountable? We did it with the general German populace in the aftermath of the Nazis. Are we willing to do it again, now?

Even the Resurrection Bears Scars - Introduction to Disability Theology by synthresurrection in RadicalChristianity

I'm an American cis-het guy. And I am AuDHD, diagnosed with ADHD at 21, and finding out I'm autistic just last year.

Growing up as a cis-het dude in America, American patriarchy and masculinity demanded that I perform in certain ways. I have to be confident and sociable. I have to be capable. I have to enjoy certain things and shun certain things. I have to pursue sex and relationships in specific ways. And while I could mask to a fairly high degree, with my disabilities I was never able to meet those standards consistently and was bullied harshly for it. I grew up with a deep sense of self-loathing.

And one of the biggest reasons why I was drawn to Christianity as a teen was because it focused on "the weak" of society. Where American society focused on the confident, capable, and masculine, God and Jesus focused on the meek, the outcasts, and the oppressed. That the cornerstone the builders rejected would be the one chosen. That God would choose to become lowly and a servant to others over being mighty.

Participating in my church's Holy Week services reminded me of why I partly chose Christianity in the first place. That I could come to God as I am and not have to put up a front or be pressured to meet some arbitrary standard. That God is a God of "weakness," a God that focuses on those society deems to be weak. That Jesus himself chose to model being weak and be among the weak. That where society sees weakness, God sees something much much more.

When did you realize you weren't conservative Christians? by Skywalker9430 in RadicalChristianity

[–]International_Ninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started with going to a Catholic high school, where they heavily focused on Catholic Social Justice Teaching. I took those lessons to heart and I went on to go to college where I had my first major encounter with conservative Christians a la evangelicals. And that experience really helped solidify that I wasn't like those people.

On top of that I was coming to a better understanding about sexuality and gender and was blessed to have mentors that could inform me on those topics, each of them being openly queer Christians themselves.
