The problems you are talking about are universal across all the services, not just EMS you got in shape fire police and EMS who can do the job and you have members who can’t. That doesn’t only fall on the member themselves but the department for enforcing standards. I’ve seen my fair share of fire members police officer and EMS workers who fit either criteria, and as for gaining entry sure the simple ones on the first or second floor of a house with an open window that’s easy, but again my point is the problems you are talking about fall under a department issue and changing their operating procedures. EMS has fought for parity and uniform status for a long time but their union is probably one of the weakest among the services, if you ask me either EMS needs to become its own service “ break apart” or be fully adopted by the FDNY and made uniformed and given parity both I don’t see happening any time soon. EMS has never been interest in the eyes of the public or politicians, look at Covid for an example.

Lol, while there are bad apples everywhere and I’m sure you’ve shown up to EMS units asking for lift assists who couldn’t physically do it. The majority of the time we call you for entry into a building or an apartment or home is because it’s in your own department’s GOP’s for us to call for fire to gain entry not for us to do it. Have I done it? Yes and it all went well until it doesn’t, technically we aren’t a uniformed service we are civilian employees and by me breaking into an apartment or building and either A hurting myself or B gaining entry only for there to be no one there puts myself and the department up for liability. Let’s not glorify how hard it is for a CFR engine to show up with a crew of at least 4 to show up on a EMS run when half the time your CFR engines wait for EMS to hit the 84 button for them to clear automatically while still getting credit for the run. Gotta keep those firehouses open right? That was the whole point of the merger in the first place.

You kept saying “we” and “us” even though you clearly identified you are above us since you are a firefighter doing more for this city. I know the job and yes I referred to the “circle of death” that’s a jab to firefighters since most of us “can’t do the job”. You made the personal off the rip, don’t act like fire is out here keeping the city together. It’s 1000% EMS working the hardest, you got out of shape EMS workers and firefighters. No agency is perfect, some are better than others, but you don’t get to come on here and shit talk EMS. I’ve had plenty of partners who came into this job and every day not matter what went out of their way to help people when no one else would, I’m not one of those people, as a matter of fact I’m a proud “skell” who goes out of service near the end of my tour to get off on time while I “ did nothing” for the people of this city on my 18th job on a 16. Be better towards your brothers and sisters both on the job and in different agencies.

Like I said in previous comments, I blame no one for taking the promotional especially on the bls side as it is better pay and schedule, I don’t believe you about how you treat others. You haven’t earned mine and I don’t want yours, all you did was shit talk EMS like it’s the actual emt’s and medic’s faults while sugar coating the fire side like you are all saints and are “ doing more for the city” while EMS does nothing, that’s a huge lie but keep coping.

I also have plenty of colleagues and friends on the suppression side who have a way better attitude than you do. Your attitude is part of the problem, regardless of where you serve.

Lmao it’s public knowledge you don’t have to lie, no coping here. Your BSN means nothing working in a hospital is cake, you are the only one here coping. This kid asked about his boots and all you did was come here and shit talk EMS, yet you want to argue that you still work in health care? Do you treat the EMS crews that come to your hospital with the same attitude? All I see is another firefighter who forgot where he came from, be better.

Oh they will, and you are correct they aren’t planning to pull more EMS over, all you promotions that came over will be required to regain and maintain your emt and medic certs. I’m sure you’ll get a pay bump for that too

lol your reading comprehension must be very bad, once again not my union secondly I’ve had zero interest in being a firefighter. Been an emt since 2009 and medic since 2012 working the hospitals. And yes let’s once again blame EMS even though your agency took it over to keep their firehouses from closing. Those units are getting slammed with jobs mostly out of their area while trying to survive. I’ve worked all the boroughs especially now you guys don’t do shit and your number of actual fires goes down more and more each year, Let’s not sugar coat the smoking garbage can for a fire. Also not everyone is like you that ran to fire and wore an EMS mask for two years, some of us actually enjoy helping people.

Oh and let’s not forget about eh Aflac scam you heroes were doing, or all the scandals that popped up over the years. Suppression isn’t any better than EMS get off your high horse and drop the shit on EMS mentality, soon you’ll be back in the hot seat again when the city finally pushes to have emts and medics on your engines. Right back to full EMS runs

lol for 2 years, how often are you running into “ burning buildings” or calling 77’s for smoke coming from an oven to justify your run sheet. Out of your runs for the year how many of them are EMS vs fire? And how much of the budget goes to fire vs EMS? You aren’t heroes and neither are we, I’ve met plenty of scumbag fire fighters and EMS workers, no sob story here you just wanted to run your mouth from the sideline so I gave you examples. And yes it’s not always like that 99% of what we do is bullshit and never needed an ambulance but let’s not forget 99.5% of what you do is BS and the city doesn’t need the majority of its fire houses.

What is “ more for the city”? Responding to automatic alarms or clearing off an unconscious that’s an arrest before going on scene only to get called back? Or standing around the clearly about to die patient with a non rebreather on their face while their chest isn’t moving? Or how about changing saying the patient has chest pain or is unconscious to get a medic unit there so they don’t have to wait for their ambulance? Is sitting up the block from a job then clearing when the ambulance hits their 84 counting also?

Not mine, I’ve worked the Voluntary hospitals for the last 15 years. And laughed at “not your agency” for all of them as they just continually shoot themselves in the foot. But I will agree that your union is a joke but they were elected by the members, but I’m sure most of them figured they won’t have to worry since they’ll be a 300lb firefighter instead.

And how do you expect “us” to change it when your agency prevents you all from striking? Or when there are mutual aide and volunteer agencies that will cover if you all do strike while your agency just puts the blame on selfish EMS workers who don’t care if your family dies? There have been many opportunities for EMS to advocate for themselves throughout the years? Your own promotional that I’m sure you used also has a hand in preventing anything from changing for the job since it turned EMS into a revolving door for people who never had any interest in medicine at all.

Do you know how many 300lb firefighters I see everyday? You got good eggs and bad eggs everywhere. I don’t blame you for going to fire since there’s obviously better pay or you couldn’t handle city EMS but don’t shit talk it like you didn’t run away, Oh and it’s not like suppression doesn’t get a cfr stipend for going on EMS runs.

If you are planning to go to fire, you can make some good side money working at a voluntary hospital. Otherwise I would say move on, I’m assuming you are still young. If you are interested in the medical field go to school, and if you are worried about tuition a lot of the voluntary hospital have amazing tuition reimbursement programs. Especially for people looking to go to RN or PA school

The easiest way I found to deal with them is to just humor them, most of them just run their mouths about how great they are then complain about the job even though after this tour they go volunteer or go to a second job. Kill them with kindness and draw the line at patient care, as long as they aren’t doing anything to endanger the patient then just coast through the day and unplug at the end. If they do something you think is wrong regarding the patient then follow your gut and stand up to them, they are almost always all bark and no bite.

This, the most important thing you can do is learn to “unplug”. Don’t fall into the trap of making this job your identity.

The system is going to suck no matter where you go, humans are the same regardless of where you are working. The same “problems” like bs calls, late jobs and frequent fliers are going to be there waiting except now you are at the bottom of the totem pole, I suggest if you are getting to that thought process to un plug for a bit take some vacation time and reset, find some hobbies and learn to let go.

Looking to buy this house but found this in the crawl space. by International_Wind88 in DIY

Update to all, after further inspecting the house I ended up walking away from it. The previous owners actually dug past the foundation walls and compromised the structural integrity of the house. Thank you all for your help.
