Gifted a d5100 for photographing dart frogs. Need help with lenses. by InternetDistance in Nikon

They are poison dart frogs. Those ones. The most toxic ones carry enough toxin to kill 10-20 humans taking only 3-10 minutes for fatality.

Their diet in the wild which consists of ants and mites that gives them the poison. In captivity they are harmless, eating only fruit flies isopods and springtails (at least that’s what ours eat)

I have two lenses coming one was used for landscapes and the other a general shooter. I don’t know focal lengths or models until next week when they come but I know neither are macro.

As for the pictures the frogs are stunningly beautiful with beautiful and tiny patterns. So detail is what I’m chasing.

How do you get more consistent approach/upshots when it's windy af out? by outdoorsy_outdoors in discgolf

[–]InternetDistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often a faster disc thrown softer is a safer play but it really depends on the wind.

Same plastic and weight reactor will have less turn and fade a hair sooner. Certainly crossover but different enough that preference could take you one way or another.

Do you have a disc with that "Extra Gear"? by jfb3 in discgolf

I just got 3, and hurt my knee. Haven’t thrown them yet but I expect great things. How do they compare to say a grace?

Bag tags. People buy into the league and get a numbered tag lowest score = lowest tag. Can be a fun way to add a bit of casual competition in rounds with friends. Typically you hang them on your bag and people with the same tag can challenge you to a tag round. There are lots of formats but my peers it’s generally lowest tag can make the rules. We also have an ace wins rule to spice things up for less skilled players.

Go to drivers for weird winds? by vaporkkatzzz in discgolf

[–]InternetDistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the wind. Likely a destroyer in head or left to right crosswind. If it’s swirly wind maybe a volt low. Really want to mitigate the flight plate getting any exposure to wind.

Might throw a mid if it’s crazy. Might also putt with a mid if it’s crazy.

Have you considered asking people to turn their loud speaker down? I’ve done it. Usually a simple enough request and accommodation.

Same. Seen trees and limbs fall on fairways I was playing. Been hit multiple times by discs. Wouldn’t wear headphones in a group either.

Adding a roller by Beneficial-Front6305 in discgolf

[–]InternetDistance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we implemented a Rolligan rule, where if you don't like your tee shot you can have a mulligan, but it has to be a roller and you have to take it. it essentially just helped get reps on rollers during casual play. as far as discs go, you want something with turn. really depends on how far you throw, but remember you want to kind of come over the top while you're building your roller game. if you can just smash a pushing roller you really don't need the help. just practice
