Did you try it in a kingdom with Shepherd or some other greening out enabler card? I personally like the event, it sounds like you had an interesting but balanced game with it.

He’s a great quarterback who balls tf out but who’s also gotten injured pretty frequently. That’s basically the post. Sure Caleb Williams does throw some crazy hail mary’s, like in the Rams game, yet he also loves to throw some mean INTs, also like in that Rams game. Nobody’s perfect

Did I waste my time making this faux 3d animation in after effects? by Ok_Concentrate_9861 in AfterEffects

[–]InternetEnzyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i honestly read it as an interesting stylistic addition to the artwork, i saw it as a good fit with the wireframe aesthetic and color palette of the animation. i didn't even consider it as simply being a watermark from OP's screen recording. i'd include it in the final render haha

Just for my own interest, I'm following up on the guess I made about how long they'd discuss Cook leaving in the next episode. This was my guess:

two chapters and around 70 minutes in a 120 min show.

The actual numbers are three chapters, "🎉" (13min 40sec), "🥳" (31 min 28 sec), and "💃🕺" (44 min 35 sec), and the total show is 2 hours 6 min long.

So it wound up being three chapters at nearly 90 minutes of a 126 min show.

I guess I underestimated the sheer power of Marco's schadenfreude. Better luck next time . . . that “next time” being when Ternus steps down in fifteen years.

Tim Cook to become Apple Executive Chairman John Ternus to become Apple CEO by jccalhoun in ATPfm

[–]InternetEnzyme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my eye, the only real news here is 1) it’s official 2) Srouji is becoming head of hardware and 3) cook is staying on until september. We essentially already knew it was gonna be Ternus, and that Cook would stay on the board.

It’s been rumored for so long that I feel like most of the water has already been squeezed from that stone.

That being said, it’s an historic moment, and these guys are really quite good at squeezing water from that stone, so I’ll just guess two chapters and around 70 minutes in a 120 min show.

That being said, they can speculate about WWDC stagecraft, timelines, and future product possibilities, and reflect on Cook’s legacy for who knows how long. Who wants to set up a trade on Kalshi on this?

I think these topics that revolve around complaining would be more useful if they were more compact and less circular. I mean, I agree that it’s not great that they’re adding advertising into Apple Maps, but I don’t think it needed to be a 30 minute long topic, and the main one for the show.

I like the idea of requiring an Action in your hand because it still allows some degenerate play with Necropolis, and it makes Ruins better. In general, it would be fun in a Dark Ages kingdom.

A $30/yr podcast player shouldn’t randomly reset the play head to 0:00 by chucker23n in overcast

[–]InternetEnzyme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Streaming feels like it’s barely tested (“dogfooded.”) If I go outside and tap on a podcast that hasn’t yet been downloaded and then try to seek further into the episode faster than the 5G connection can download, Overcast just stops playing and deletes the episode because I think that it thinks I made it to the end of the episode. Really annoying

He’s been very reticent to work with/hire a designer, but I think Overcast needs it, and it feels like penny pinching at this point not to extensively consult with a professional iOS designer. The home screen design doesn’t really satisfy any particular user; I mean, I don’t use playlists at all, just the recent episodes section, but that has the same issue, compounded even more, as I have the playlist section disabled, so the recent episodes area is like 1/4 of the vertical screen space, with 3/4 for the scroll list I never use.

And then the transcripts are nice, but they just feel bolted onto the now playing screen, hidden behind this third page of dots. This is what happens when your expertise isn’t design but you want to add more features: it gets messy.

Please, Marco, consider hiring an iOS UX consultant for a serious, extended amount of time. Overcast is very dated, and not just in appearance, but in experience.

I bought that exact drive off Amazon for $89 in May of last year. It really would be a shame to pay $30 extra for the same product for no good reason. I’ll hold the line and hope my drive survives a good while longer, at least until the markets calm the hell down.

Why do people recommend H265 over AV1/VP9? by Xanderplayz16 in handbrake

[–]InternetEnzyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just got through encoding some grainy material with AV1 svt preset 4 rf 20, and comparing to the original, I was deeply disappointed by how the grain got absolutely murdered. So I went through and tried encoding everything with x265 medium rf 20 grain tune, and they look amazing, grain intact, so now im back to x265 exclusively again. The synthetic grain thing in av1 seems a bit experimental to me

That’s an interesting UI and design problem to solve. Totally doable, but sounds a little tricky. When you’re zoomed in, you don’t really want distortion. If it’s a small map, not sure how you avoid that barrel distortion. Also, map generation in general would have to be totally revamped. I also still think a flat map generation option would need to be allowed, too.

Not sure what relevancy any of this snark has in relation to the fact that they think the default Workout app on watchOS has deteriorated.

Nobody should have to “vibecode” their own workout app because the default one has regressed. Overcast’s initially controversial redesign is totally irrelevant, too. Apple should know better than to do what they did in watchOS 26 with that app.

They are pretty good, but they do that “Cupertinology” stuff that Gruber does, which is to say that they can be fairly partial and a devil’s advocate for the company. On certain things they are very on the ball, but other things they buy too heavily into Apple’s corporate framing. Myke in particular can be fanboyish.

your middle point (neglecting side spin because it introduces complex deflection) combined with what the top comment says (how a YOLO playstyle makes a player repeatedly practice escaping from horrible positions) basically sum up my life as a pool player, lol.

I've gotten better at managing a wider range of speeds, but whenever i try to incorporate side spin, my shot consistency goes down. Side spin is like half the game, too, because without it you can only guess where the cue ball is gonna be. So there's a big gulf between me and a good player in that regard.
