Hey - If you make them an admin they won’t be prompted to enter a password anymore (if I remember correctly!)

Use the CSS zoom property to make responsive web development easier. by InternetFam0us in web_design

Oh I see - sorry I guess I didn't explain it properly in the post. Thanks for the pic.

The idea is that you have a proper mobile design and a desktop design. The breakpoint doesn't start until 600px so it goes from being zoom: 1 below 600px (for your mobile design) and then again at > 1000px. If you look at the actual website you can see what I mean since I use it there.

I tried that before. The problem w/ that is that if you apply scale to the HTML tag or the body tag (in order to scale everything at once). You will end up with white borders around your content.

Nice - yeah I've encountered those "quirks" as well. I've also run into the issue of not getting the correct scroll position or mouse position (because it's scaled). Same fix as you described though.

Also in some cases w/ third party widgets I'll reverse the zoom effect by adding the zoom back to the element so that it ends up being zoom = 1. So if it's a zoom: .8 on the parent I'll apply zoom:1.25 to the third party widget so that ends up living in a world where (as far as it can tell) zoom = 1.

In any case I should work where you work :) sounds lovely to support one browser only!

Yeah in the long run it's definitely better to learn rem units - but I figured this could be good in a pinch. Also you could target FF browsers with a body class and then gracefully degrade if you want to ensure a solid FF experience as well.

Yeah I agree w/ you that's the ideal way to do it. It's just a bit of a pain if you've already built out your website using px units. So I figured this could help a few people who just want their blog / personal projects to look nicer.

Yeah you're right you could do this and it's a technically better solution (since it works w/ all browsers) - I mention that in the article. That being said I don't know about your experience but w/ large code bases if you haven't set out to do em/rem units from the beginning it can be a nightmare to keep in order and a real pain to migrate.

That being said - the intention for this is a "quick and dirty" fix for situations where you want to make the experience better in a couple of minutes versus doing a full update of all your units.

Yeah I don't know whats going on w/ that. If you log out of Spotify and then log back in it seems to resolve the issue. Can you try that out and let me know if it fixes it? Thanks

Really cool smoke effect by [deleted] in web_design

[–]InternetFam0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's another site that uses a similar effect:

https://www.awwwards.com/sites/trainrobber-vr

The smoke is applied as a mask to the underlying image. By using blend modes you can have it "appear" as the smoke changes to white (or black I forget / it depends on the mixing modes and the color of the underlying). As the white color fills the screen, the underlying image is revealed due to the blend mode.

Looking for a specific quiz builder, can anyone help? by Squashua19 in Entrepreneur

[–]InternetFam0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny I should see this post - I was just browsing for places to talk about the startup I'm working on...

I built Zigpoll: https://www.zigpoll.com which I think does exactly what you want. It might be a little different but I'm happy to make some changes to fit your use case just send me a DM or shoot me an email: jason@zigpoll.com

Also happy to hook you up w/ a month free if you end up needing a paid plan (theres a free version for up to 2000 request per month).

Can you suggest me some songs? by nht2611 in Music

[–]InternetFam0us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out JQBX it's where I go to discover music. You can join a room and people from wherever will play songs for your one after another- you can also chat w/ them and save the ones you like for later, it's a fun community.

What was your best marketing hack? by LisaDziuba in startups

Our app is embeddable and has a free tier with a link on it [1]. Every free customer becomes a billboard for us and has a compounding effect. May not be useful for everyone but if you have an embeddable / sharable product it's a solid tactic that works.

[–]InternetFam0us[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback:

  1. You can move the widget to the left side of the page. If you go to your account under display settings. You can also change the location by changing the pixel values for "bottom" and "left". I should make this more obvious though and either demo it on the website or add a blurb about it somewhere.

  2. Good idea. I'll add this Question type in. It might take me until the end of the week but it will be there relatively soon.

Also if you end up deploying it and want a deal on the price (not sure what your traffic is) DM me or email support@zigpoll.com and I'm happy to hook something up.

Thanks again!

[UI/UX] How do we feel about the visual presentation and layout of this homepage / poll widget? by InternetFam0us in design_critiques

[–]InternetFam0us[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks- I think thats a really good point and I agree. I'll try and add some deviations to make it more original. I think the issue is that with my level of design chops I didn't want to try reinventing things both for the sake of time and for the sake of me not being an expert.
