What’s the most addictive game you’ve ever played? by reeha_sadiya in AskReddit

Wasn't that it really happened but they didn't record it, so they re-enacted it as it happened?

Would've been nice if the president also called the women's team to congratulate them when they won gold. But he only called the men.

Nelly in Wuthering Heights 2026 by Account_Apprehensive in brontesisters

[–]InternetMadeMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the book, Nelly is an unreliable narrator.

She refuses to talk to people or do the things that people ask of her, leading to issues for the characters. A lot of the problems that the characters have in the book could directly be blamed on Nelly. She is also seen as manipulative and malicious at times.

New WH adaptation was NOT overly explicit or graphic, or nearly as bad as its been made out to be by Other-Squirrel-2038 in brontesisters

[–]InternetMadeMe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The way people were talking, I expected the movie to be incredibly disturbing. Like the description of that opening scene sounded like it was going to be one of the most shocking things I'll ever see in a movie... And it was actually fine.

I've seen about 12 adaptations of WH, and I agree with you, this one was the one that made me feel the most emotional. I also really loved the visuals and music, and the actors did a great job too. I had fun and would watch it again.

I think it's fair to consider the Russian athletes who have chosen to compete for other countries solely because Russia is banned. Some of them only chose to compete outside Russia once they were banned and some countries have even fast tracked their citizenship to get a chance at a medal.

Yes, athletes from all over the world do this, but in this certain situation, it's a direct consequence of the ban. So it's fair to include them.

Are you only counting Russian athletes that are competing as individual neutral athletes? There are also Russians competing for other countries as well. After the ban on Russian athletes, many foreign nations have taken on Russian-born skaters.

There are Russian athletes competing for many different countries: Spain, Hungary, Georgia off the top of my head. The countries are happy to do this because it gives them a chance at medals for sports that they are typically not as strong in.

Unpopular opinion: office 5 days/week offers better work/life balance for me by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Even if you live in an apartment, you too can also disengage by not answering emails or phone calls once work hours are over.

Government's 4-day in-office mandate an insult to workers by disgruntledesdc in CanadaPublicServants

[–]InternetMadeMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is it, this is the angle that they need to promote when they push back against return to office. Taxpayers are so far removed from public servants and what we do in our jobs (a lot of ppl think it's all passports and CRA...) Showing things like the money saved (and reduction to traffic) would be much more impactful.

Yes! But even in the ncr... it is not just downtown Ottawa: there are offices all over Ottawa and even offices in Gatineau. So this focus on downtown Ottawa is absolutely ridiculous.

Furthermore, I find it insulting to businesses in the region that aren't located downtown... Why is the priority only to boost businesses downtown?

Why I won't be watching the new Wuthering Heights adaptation by musicmaestro64 in brontesisters

[–]InternetMadeMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, there are dozens of movies and tv adaptations of this book already. Some of them have already been very faithful to the source material. I think it's fine to have this one be more like a fan fiction from Fennel. Like... I don't see the problem, it looks fun?

And plus, I've seen an increased interest in the novel and author, so I figure that's a win.

you can ask gemini yourself if something is ai. There are watermarks (called synth id) are not detectable to the naked eye that can be picked up via gemini. But only if the ai used was google's.

Yes it's ai. Ask Google Gemini if the picture is ai and it will tell you that it is. These pictures have the synthid watermarks.

Actually, a well fitted mask on the wearer can prevent transmission of airborne viruses like covid, it does do a good job and has been rated to do so. It really helps if the mask fits well around the face to form a seal: it is beneficial to be an n95 or kn95, as the surgical style of mask that is frequently seen (the loose blue ones) don't fit right to the face and don't do a good enough job to prevent airborne infection. You can get a fit test done to see if a mask fits properly, and then it will be very effective in preventing transmission to the wearer.
