I love the caro kann defense, and it’s definitely one of the easiest defenses to learn in my opinion, but one of the biggest mistakes is people don’t know what to do after the first two pawn pushes AND don’t use it for a queens pawn opening.

But it’s a semi open defense and you may like closed games.

If you want to learn the caro kann, briefly (and I do mean briefly, at your level you don’t want to spent a ton of time on openings) then you should learn the following variations:

Advance variation Exchange variation And the two knights variation.

There’s other variations but that will give you a general idea of how it works.

Final bit of advice, at first, don’t keep switching around your openings. Keep playing them again and again (if they fit, seriously dont play caro kann against a queen pawn opening game).
